Wild Yough is located in Southern Garrett County, Maryland very close to Herrington Manor State Park, Swallows Falls State Park, and the quaint mountain village of Oakland. The property adjoins thousands of acres of Garrett State Forest and hundreds of acres of state land along the Youghiogheny River. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Wild Yough Glamping huts are part of more than 350 acres of private land, most of which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land.The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. There is a small turn around on the path just beyond Crooked Butt Bench where you can take out your canoe, kayak, or inner tubes after floating the 2+ miles from the Oakland bridge. Just be prepared to walk your water craft back up to the house or Glamping site as there is no motorized access to the river.If you like to lay on the rocks in the sun or take the kids for some wading in the river, the best place is the farthest to walk to. Take the trail to “High Bluff”, then cross the Snyder property line (Permission for trail access only – do not leave trail!), then descend down and cross the bridge across Herrington Manor Creek (a stocked trout stream!). Wild Yough property is to your right along the river and there is a great place for lying in the sun, doing some fishing, or just wading into the cool waters of the Yough on a hot summer day.Learn more about this land:The idea is simple- our glamping site will offer a true camping experience without all the hassles and fuss. With 350 acres of private ground, adjacent to thousands of acres of state park and forest, Wild Yough offers plenty of space to spread out, stretch your legs, watch the deer, and howl with the coyotes. Outside, each hut has comfortable chairs on the porch, a large picnic table, and a fire-ring/cooking grill with extra seating. And all this is just a short walk to the bath house and paviliion! Our bathhouse is designed to bring you all of the comforts of home, with modern, comfortable features which include full size showers, plenty of counter space, professional ventilation, and regular maintenance by our partners at Offlake Rentals. Additionally, we have outside water facilities and separate, deep sinks for washing dishes. Learn more about this land:Wonderful place to spend time with nature without distractions. There are multiple state parks near by within a few minute drive. The property contains a Tree Fort for sitting/relaxing/hunting. There is a tree stand for hunting. 2-5 min drive to the local State parks that have canoe/boat access. 10-15 min drive to Deep Creek Lake. Close to Wisp Ski Resort. Close to BlackBear Tavern that has go carting, mini golf, food, beer, etc. Shed has a NEMA 14-50 charging port for charging EV's. There are also 9v outlets available outside of the Cabin for other appliances. I have camped several times on my property with my EV! Wonderful time! Recommend Heidi's Bakery for Food/Baked goods or Traders Coffee House for Coffee and Breakfast.

This property and farm has been in our family for 3 generations. In 1964 my grandfather started the campground due to limited camping at New Germany. My father tells stories of it being filled with guests all summer long! Over the years there was few upgrades and now it's in need of a facelift. Landscaping, electric upgrades and bathhouse remodels were completed Spring 2021. We will continue to renovate in phases it's been a labor of love, but you can still see the beauty of this rural location and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Lots of trees, shade and nature. It's located near New Germany State Park, 1.5 miles by car, less than a mile by foot. The state park has a lake and hiking trails. Garrett County has so much to offer, waterfalls, lakes, hiking, skiing, Amish gifts, history, fresh air, beautiful scenery. The campground was first started in 1964 by my grandparents, we are currently completing renovations in phases.

I loved this site for camping! The tent platform area is leveled under a little bit of shade, with a beautiful field and woods surrounding.
Specifically, the aim of this camping trip was to view a double meteor shower event. The expansive lawn space and the part of the site with clear cut phone lines through the trees made for great viewing!
There were plenty of wild flowers, mushrooms, and lots of fog at that elevation. It has rained earlier in the first day and the ground was delightfully dewy. Glad I brought my sandals!
Everything was tidy - picnic table, fire ring, porta pot - and it was clearly marked where to park. There was a space of picnic tables up the hill as well, which offered another neat space to spend time.
Absolutely would be back again!

We loved our stay at Barnum Cliffs! We stayed at the RV site for two nights and wish we could have stayed longer to explore more of the land and enjoy the peaceful site. It was so private, secluded, and quiet…just what we were looking for. We didn’t see or hear a soul. The hosts were very quick to respond and very helpful. There was firewood at the site but also a ton of wood around the site to use as well. To top it all off, we saw our first black bear at dusk walking up the mountain from the river…such a hi-light! We’d definitely return if we are looking to camp in the area again in the future!

We had a lovely stay. Campsites are in great condition, firewood is generous. At night, the woods looked like they were sparkling with all the fireflies. The location had easy access to a beautiful rail trail and Shaw beach at the nearby reservoir. The hosts were responsive and gave us some helpful recommendations.

We were looking for a quiet place to get our puppy used to camping. There is a trailer site just downhill that could dampen your privacy but it was incredibly peaceful with that site being vacant. The privy meets your needs and has a nice view. Even after the amount of rain the area received recently the access road was in good condition. The gate code was received long before our trip, the location directions were easy to understand, and the gate ensures privacy. We stargazed each night on the nearby power line and really enjoyed our stay!
