With the original home built in 1785, Milk Thistle farm is on the historic register and is comprised of the main house and 5 acres of land. It is run as a small non-profit animal sanctuary and is home to rescued chickens, goats, and pigs, as well as two humans and their dog and cat companions. The main property is fenced in and is closed off to visitors. We have two sites; the orchard to explore that can also double as hammock camping, as well as a small wooded nook. Both are next to the goat pen. There is parking for cars and bikes. We try to minimize our impact on the environment as much as possible, and encourage our guests to compost, recycle, and dispose of waste accordingly. Absolutely magical. The Yurt site at Getaway Ranch is one of those rare, special places that can heal your weary soul. The perfect balance of wilderness immersion and convenience. Will you hear some faint sounds of civilization in the distance? Yes. But, that's a fair trade-off for a FWD accessible site where you will fall asleep to the sound of barred owls and coyotes, then wake up to the beauty of the fog rolling off the river. Absolutely loved camping at Blackburn Farm! The farm setting was lovely and pristine. We loved the farm animals and shaded spot by the barn. The site is equiped with everything you need including 30/50amp power, water, picnic table and fire pit. Feels secluded and quiet while being minutes from all the Mystic area has to offer. The host was beyond gracious and knowedgable, providing awesome recommendations for Mystic as well as the future legs of our trip. I highly recommend this stay and hope to return!

The grass was a little high and we would have been more comfortable walking around if it was cut. Just worry about ticks. The host was friendly and accommodating.

About

Fort Getty Park is a Town-owned facility located at the terminus of Fort Getty Road and is 41 acres in size. Fort Getty is primarily a recreational-vehicle campground that also contains a tent camping area. The Park itself-has old fortifications, a rocky beach, a public boat ramp and a dock. The Kit Wright walking trail was completed along Fox Hill Marsh in the winter of 2000. In addition, the Boy Scouts constructed a wildlife observation platform that was funded by the Rotary Club in 2000. Views of the Jamestown Bridge and across the West Passage make this park one of the Town’s major recreational and open space resources. Fees are charged during the summer months for non-resident parking and boat launching and a Beach sticker is needed for residents to enter in the summer season.
