Welcome to Sunset Bay Meadows! We have several tent/RV sites, a yurt, and one group camping site. Once a dairy farm and part of the old Simpson estate our property offers mushroom picking seasonally whey you may find Chanterelle & Hedgehog mushrooms. We're close to the beach and the Sunset Bay Golf Course is on the same property. Lots of hiking trails and you can connect with Sunset Bay State Park our neighbor. We have a private, secluded campground that is wind sheltered with approximately 20 acres of space in which to use our covered table, picnic tables, fire pit, fire rings at individual campsites, BBQ, sauna and outdoor propane-fired shower. The camp area is tucked away among large spruce trees and open meadows which lead to endless trails on the property, with the option to buy a round of golf at Sunset Bay Golf Course, which is right next door to the camp area. We’re just short of a mile from Sunset Bay, where you will find kayaking, fishing and a great spot for kids. The Whiskey Run mountain bike trails are a short drive away and are truly world-class trails. The Sunset Bay State Park has a huge trail network that spans the cliff line all the way from Sunset Bay to Cape Arago. Chuck’s Seafood in Charleston is a great spot to pick up local seafood. BBQ some oysters on the grill or pick up some fresh fish and enjoy the bounty of the coast. Charleston, just 3.5 miles away, also has some great restaurants and local shops to truly make your stay memorable. Only friendly dogs allowed and leashed or under voice command.

It's best to make it in during the day if possible, which allows you to take your time and enjoy the space. If you are planning on arriving late in the evening, please take time to review the arrival instructions and be aware there is a gate that protects the property at night. Small fires are allowed only at designated fire ring areas that are marked by circles of rocks or the group fire pit, when a property-wide burn ban is not in effect. It is a good idea to have a fire extinguisher with you.   There are hiking trails all over the property. This campsite offers a private and spacious environment, ideal for both families and solo campers looking for tranquility. With its proximity to the beach, it's a great spot for dog owners as well, where pets can roam freely without disturbing others. While the road to the site can be challenging for larger vehicles, the beauty of the secluded meadows and the quiet atmosphere more than make up for it. The host, Tim, is frequently praised for his helpfulness and warmth, adding to the overall positive experience.

I like that we were a fair distance away from staff, but they were available. Having wood on-site was awesome. Well-maintained while still having its natural beauty

Camping with dogs
All the camping sites were large and spaced out. Our dogs loved the large area they were able to run around and explore without bothering anyone. If your dog is a ball chaser, this place is a must after long travel days. The only downside was the limited service so make sure you get the directions from Tim before you head too far back. We didn’t stay long enough to use the showers or sauna but would have liked to. Would definitely stay here again.

Very nice place to camp, for dry camping. The road is steep in some places and one spot we dragged the rear of our trailer going up and down. Our trailer is 35’ foot tow behind.

RV 20’ or less in my opinion
So I rarely give a three star review and to be totally honest this is a five star location if you have a vehicle with a decent amount of ground clearance. The sites are evenly spread out and have a degree of privacy. The meadow is very nice so you’re asking why the three star review? Well there’s nothing in the description that tells you you’re going to be on a long gravel road with lots of ups and downs and that it’s not a good idea to bring a motorhome longer than say a 20 footer out here. I brought my 32 footer and scraped at least half a dozen times maybe more. Worse at the road was rough and uneven enough, to dislodge the carrier for my E bikes. Never a good feeling seeing them laying on the ground. In addition, the host does send detailed instructions however on site there’s only one sign that says hip camp and after that you’re on that long gravel road with each grind of the bottom of my motorhome I became less confident that I was going the right way and there were no signs to guide me. I could’ve looked at the instructions however there’s no cell service here either. Overall, if your tent camping or have an off-road vehicle, you’re in great shape. It’s a nice place if you have a motorhome much over 20 feet I’d find another option. And make sure that bike rack has lots of clearance.

This was such a great experience. Very private, quiet, and safe place with a gate locked up at night, and the outdoor shower was nice! The mattress in the yurt was very comfortable.
