What a nice setting in the woods with walking trails through the old zoo caves, the large pool, and the old park. Pleasantly surprised. Plenty of room for two travel trailers 35â long. Always a pleasure to come upon a unique out of the way Hipcamp. Many thanks to Johnie and all.

Nice Quiet Relaxing Place.

We loved the quiet secluded area. We were the only ones there last weekend and it was like having our own little oasis. Very close walk to the lake and the zoo both. The hiking and trails leave straight from the campground. We will go back. Very friendly staff and very easy to work with.

Perfect place for privacy and adventure. Cisco lake is within walking distance of your site. There are only two rv sites. How great is that? Johnnie is a wonder host with a lot of knowledge about this area. There is 30-50 amp with water and sewage. You will need a longer hose for the sewage. The old zoo and trails are really fun taking you back in history. When we arrived, Philip another host was there to greet us and show us around if needed. This area is very secluded and woodsy. We love it so much. We are definitely going to try a once a year trip here. Iâm not sure what the guy who wrote the review was talking about when he was saying something about buying meth. There was nothing of that nonsense anywhere. We highly suggest if you like privacy and adventure and a nice family town book this place now. They will have a spot for you. Awesome time at Lake Cisco CG

We had the best time at this campground. We arrived before dark- wise choice. Phillip greeted us and showed us our site. What a unique experience camping next to a zoo abandoned in the 30's just 100' away with a trail to Cisco Lake. The limestone outbuildings are impressive. There are trees but we had no problem navigating our 35' TT. This is an authentic experience with an old Texas hill country feel. We wish we had more time to stay and explore the area.

I was surprised by how remote this location felt but it was perfect for a one night stop over while driving across Texas. I was the only camper at the time so it was very peaceful. The location was beautiful as the sun set and fun to explore the next morning.

This was an interesting place to say the least. Our host was extremely nice and informative and While we enjoyed our one night, itâs way over priced. We stayed at a beautiful state park with full hook ups that was less than this. $40 per night is a bit much for what you get.

Camp site was clean and friendly, but we had a few major issues.
Camp site is not 5th wheel friendly. Anything over 30ft is extremely hard to maneuver.
Dump stations and water were not close to the site, requiring additional hoses.
The owners/caretakers dog, while friendly, was left to run lose, and those spending a large amount of time in and around our camp, not allowing us to have our dogs out, even after mentioning this.

Weekend Camp from Dallas

We tent camped at Johnnie's campground and had a great time! Very cool historic area with lots of trails in walking distance. Host was very welcoming and helpful, he even gave us some firewood he had. We went due to the proximity to the abandoned zoo trails in Cisco, and found that a very popular disc golf course (#3 in Texas and Top 100 in the world) was about an hour and a half away. Definitely worth the trip from Dallas and would camp here again.

Fun place to stay

Not too far off freeway but far enough to enjoy tge quiet and the stars. Phil was very nice and helped me find amenities. Very interesting place to stay; enjoyed nature walk in old zoo area and more. Would be happy to stay again if passing your way! Front gate was plenty wide to get through with my big RV but wider is always better ;) Thank you!

Super cool unique spot at the end of a historical dead end road. The history related to the old zoo is cool. If you like exploring abandoned places this should be on your bucket list. RV sites have everything there as advertised.

We had a great getaway here for thanksgiving. Very quiet surrounded by historic ruins of long vacant vacation cabins and the old abandoned zoo. This introduced us to a part of ciscos past that I never knew existed. We stayed in the RV site #2 which had full hookups.

The place was a lot of funâ from the overall vibe, getting to see the night sky and to the campgrounds themselves, everything felt well-maintained and cared for. The vibe was perfect, with a mix of relaxation and adventure in the air.
Exploring was a blast! There were hiking trails everywhere, each offering something unique. The abandoned zoo, is an absolute treat. Exploring the old cabins from the 1920s scattered around â is extremely memorable! Each path had something new to uncover, and the whole place was filled with hidden history and surprises. I canât wait to go back and explore even more!

Staying at the Lake Cisco Campground was a wonderful experience. We stayed in a tent for 2 days and enjoyed hiking, climbing, and exploring the property and the nearby abandoned zoo. Itâs incredible and a bit sad to see what has become of structures that are (in some cases) more than 100 years old.
The host is knowledgeable about the area and very friendly! The co-host, Thor was an exceptionally good boy and treated my brat (the dog I brought) with the patience that she absolutely did not deserve.
We had a wonderful experience and regret that we were unable to stay longer. We definitely plan to return.

Lake Cisco Campground isnât a traditional campground. It did however provide what we needed. After some circling around the property we found a fire pit and an electric outlet and made camp. It was quiet after dinner and the stars were not missed.

We had a great time at this campsite. Itâs small and a little tucked away, but itâs close to everything. Easy access to the zoo hiking trail. Super close to the old caves and cages. Very quiet, very interesting with all of the old cabins. We will be back again. The only Thing this campground needs is more signage. But if you had more signage, the more people would come to it and it might lose its old-school character. Second Thought donât change anything! L O L

Me and my husband spent the night car camping in a cozy little nook on his property. It is right next to the abandoned zoo and there was plenty of trails and cabins to explore to keep us occupied during our stay. Johnnie is very responsive to messages and includes plenty of recommendations and history of the land. Enjoyed our stay!

Unique historical peaceful camping.

Loved staying on Johnnie's land. So much history there. Johnnie and Phillip told us the stories of years past so while we walked the land and the zoo we could imagine the place it was in the past 100 years. Interesting and sad at the same time.
At out campsite we sat and watched butterflies flying around the wild flowers and then a beautiful sunset and fabulous night sky.
Thanks Johnnie and Phillip, it was a unique experience.

The camping area is well kept and very clean. We also loved the trails and the old zoo exhibits!! Johnnie and all the host where very friendly and helpful, the German shepherd was also very friendly. We will definitely be back and would definitely recommend the camp site and trails! đđđ
