We are located in the heart of the Hudson Valley, close to the Village of Rhinebeck and the Hudson River. There are many things to do within a half an hour of the campsite. Learn more about this land: A very spacious semi-wooded site that is in the shape of a triangle. The dimensions are approximately 100' by 100' by 50'. Perfect for the large group camp out or the family site. The Lean-to is approximately 10'x9', large enough for a small tent or keep the picnic table in there for bad weather. Large or multiple tents no problem, put your tents in the wooded area where there is room for multiple tents. There is a fire pit area, picnic table, 4 outdoor chairs and corn hole that all are included with the site. A seasonal stream runs along the campsite giving you a nice bubbling brook sound. Plenty of privacy with screens around the site. Within 15-20 minutes of our site is just about anything you could desire. Local restaurants, hiking, fishing, shopping, drive in movie and much much more. Rainy days no problem explore one of our nations pieces of history, Vanderbilt mansion, Theodore Roosevelt home, Montgomery Place Mansion, Poets walk, Ferncliff forest, or Art Omi. Campfires allowed

Firepit. Fires are only allowed in the designated fire ring! There is a fire pit with buckets of water around the pit to put out fires in an emergency. No out of state wood. Firewood is available for sale on site. cash or Venmo $5 per container.

Toilet available

Portable toilet. We do have a portable bucket toilet but, you will have to place the bag in your trash, take it with you, as there is no burying on property. A $100 Fine if waste is left on premise.

Pets allowed

On leash. Dogs are allowed please see extras for pet fee. Pets must be on the leash at all times. No Exceptions we have children and dogs of our own. If your dogs are running freely we will ask you to leave. No refund

Potable water available

Hose, bottled water or jugs. Fresh water hose at the house and If needed we can bring you a 3 gallon container.

Cooking equipment present

Grill over firepit. There is a rack to cook over the fire ring. We also rent a large full size camp stove if you would like to leave yours at home.

No hot items on the picnic table it is plastic.

There are showers available at most of the state parks, Lake Taghkanic State Park is about 15 minutes away.

We loved this camp site so much, there was firewood waiting for us as well as water which was greatly appreciated. George was super kind and was helpful anytime we needed something! The fire pit was spacious and had plenty of chairs. Overall this is a perfect spot for a big group of Friends!

This was such an amazing Hipcamp! The site is set up very nicely with a table, fire ring and outhouse. George and his spouse were beyond kind and welcoming, even letting us pick some fresh produce in their garden! It’s right near the Taconic so a great jumping off point for some areas like Red Hook or Rhinebeck. We really enjoyed our time here and wouldn’t hesitate to book again if we’re in the area!

This is the second time we have stayed at George’s property. The lean to is great so that you don’t need to worry about a little rain. George is responsive and helpful setting up the property with a picnic table, a fire pit, extra water. We would highly recommend, be aware that the family’s home is close to the site and a privacy screen has been set up.

Camping with Crickets

We enjoyed an extended Labor Day weekend at the Rustic Shelter Lean-To camping site very much. Although we didn't set up the tent in the lean to, it was very nice to have it and the daisy lights lining it were a really nice touch. We also appreciated the deepness of the fire pit, the shelter over the picnic table, and the outhouse. Those looking for a private site will enjoy the privacy screens placed around the front and side of the campsite. It really gave personal space, and the dark green color blended into the environment, too. As a result, campers have their own space, although the site is within view of the house. There is a creek, and I imagine this, too, could add to the ambience of the woods after a rain. As we were there during a warm spell in early September, we fell asleep to the sound of crickets at night. As someone who solo camps from time to time, I can definitely recommend the site for those who are going it alone. The surrounding area offers chances for hiking and birding if the weather permits. I would stay here again, either with others or alone.

A little gem off the Taconic!

I loved getting away to George and Julin's camp area. The hosts were amazing, having provided everything I needed to make the stay excellent. From big, big bundles of wood, to a 5 gal water dispenser, to a tarp for the firewood when it began to rain...it was all there and ready before I even needed to ask. They even shared some of their garden's bounty, which i put to good use for dinner and breakfast. The campsite is part of their home's property, so you are near the house and people, but the way they've set it up, you feel like you are on your own little parcel of land, including a clever screen in the trees to give the spot more privacy. But if you're going for a secluded, all-by-yourself vibe, this might not be it. That said, I'd come back again in a heartbeat. The lean-to was great for setting up my tent without the rainfly, but there were plenty of spaces on the ground for a good tent setup. And the site had a covered picnic table, which was great for the occasional mid-afternoon storm. I'll definitely keep this on my short list of places to go for some easy-going hipcamping!

We had a great time on George’s property. The shelter really came in handy because it was raining but we were comfortable and dry with our tent set up under the shelter. George was responsive and helpful on how to get the the space, and had everything set up with water, corn hole, a fire pit and a covered picnic table. The property is easily accessible off the Taconic Parkway and near great breweries and delicious food options.

I loved camping at George’s rustic campground. He is an accommodating and thoughtful host with a beautiful property, well situated near some excellent hikes and historical landmarks. The house is pretty close to the campsite (30 meters or so), so to give extra privacy, George even set up green tarp screens around the campsite. 5/5 would recommend.

My friends and I wanted a quiet spot to hang out by a fire and sleep in a tent. We normally go for deep deep in the woods, but wanted something a little different this time. Boy did we pick the perfect spot. The entire site is set up perfectly, we couldn’t have been happier. Even my dog had a blast.

We can't wait to come back! There is a lot of privacy and space. Plenty of trees for dog lines or hammock hanging. Here gives the forest feeling that farm sites and state parks are unable to provide. George is an excellent host offering assistance in case we forgot gear and making sure that we had plenty of water.

Everything you need

This is such a nice campsite and George and his wife have thought of everything. Although we had our own tent, the lean-to was convenient when there was a chance of rain or the table was wet. There was a nice, level space for our largish tent. The fire pit is large with a good cooking grate. George was quite helpful in offering supplies that we forgot and attentive from his nearby home. The privacy screens and woods make the site more private.

Beautiful weekend getaway

We had the best time relaxing at George and Julin’s campsite for the weekend. You can tell the hosts are camping lovers themselves because they’ve thought of everything for this site— a convenient cooking grate for the (awesome) fire pit, extra trash bags, kindling galore, and much more. Want to set up camp in the cool lean to? Go for it! We chose to pop the tent closer to the edge of the forest and were greeted with birdsong each morning. The site was quiet, wooded and just what we needed for a few days away. Thank you to our outstanding hosts!

Perfect getaway!

We are two adults, two kids, and two dogs. We really enjoyed staying here! The site is located behind the host’s home and is huge. Everything has been thought of for you - the lean to, shade, table, chairs, firepit, private bathroom (that is easy to clean up), cornhole, fresh drinking water from their hose, and a perfect location near all the fun stuff. We really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it for folks who need a break from city life.
