Campsite with tiny home
Perfect Getaway
Perfect spot for me & my 2 reactive dogs! Shed is secure so they got to relax inside while I was tending to the campfire. They enjoyed sniffari walks around the property and chewing their bones while relaxing in the grass. It’s a short walk to enjoy the sunrise over the bay and short drive to Point Outlook State Park for fishing & a big, empty dog beach. There’s a farmers market not far up the road on Saturdays that had fresh oysters and some amazing locally made goods. We were originally booked for 2 nights but we loved it so much we stayed for 5 nights. We’ll definitely be back!!

Hawaii Lava Dreams
Unique experience on lava beds
The location of this place is absolutely incredible. Just like the description, it’s built on lava beds and my group was completely in awe with how this community of houses were able to build thier homes on lava. Brandon was really easy to communicate with. while the location was tricky to get to, he made an extra effort to contact me to ensure I was able to get to the place correctly at night and even had his neighbor come greet us. For sunrise we walked on the lava beds about 25 mins towards where the lava meets the ocean. This was stunning. We were RV and car camping so our stay was comfortable. But tent camping could get rough with the winds/rain depending on the day as the shelter still hasn’t been fully built. Restroom and shower were not built either but Brandon let me know in advance and seems like it’ll be up in the future. We’re super thankful Brandon helped curate this experience living on lava beds. It’s super super unique!

Perfecct
Between a pandemic and the start of homeschooling, this was the break we needed. It was absolutely beautiful, and we are not beach people. We woke up this morning missing this place.. The site was clean, and just being on the beach kept us occupied all day. Our daughter loved it and we hope to make it an annual thing. The host was so friendly.

beautiful sunrise
This space was beautiful! There was a little pull in with a portopotty next to it, so we knew it was our site. There was plenty of space to spread out while camping. It's right next to the water with a little handmade "staircase" down to the beach. The campsite faces the east so the sunrise is beautiful. Overall, great space and really glad we booked it!

Beautiful views
Most beautiful and private camping spot we have been to all summer. The views were amazing and it was so nice to have our own private beach. My children had fun combing the beach. We went in the beginning of August and there were thousands of jellyfish in the bay. We still were able to kayak and paddle board though, just no swimming. The site was primitive, which was fine for us.

Beautiful view of water
Beautiful view of the water, with gorgeous sunrises. You do feel like you’ve gotten away from civilization here. Past reviews noted limited sand left on beach and smells from Portapotty, but we found both to be fine. Wouldn’t suggest swimming in the water, but great views. Nice to have a table to put things on, and a ready fire pit! Very sunny / hot in the morning in June; nice and shady in the afternoon. Tons of trees for shade. Would come again.

Brandon was great! Super nice and helpful. Made sure that we were all set up and happy! Place was easy to find and beautiful. It has everything you need, bathroom, trash, shade, flat ground, fire pit, and of course amazing views. Very happy with our stay!

Better than we expected!
Better than we expected. Felt a little uneasy at night just because we were so close to the road and were unfamiliar with the area. Sunset was absolutely stunning. We took kayaks and enjoyed riding them around the small cove. The water is surprisingly shallow with nice sandy bottoms. Like your own private beach with a nice campfire and view of the bay. Host stopped by and was very friendly.

Nice location!
The site is a great location. Drop dead gorgeous. The host was very responsive.
The only down side was that many people know they can access the beach from this spot and didn't know it was a private site. One person said they had been coming for years.

Wife’s first camp trip! Loved it!
Wife and I had an amazing time, exceeded expectations! The view at night and the sunrise were amazing. Brandon was awesome in making sure the bathroom would be unlocked and helped us know what stores were close. Can’t wait to camp here again!

It’s all good in the Woods!
This is my second stay at Money’s Rest and it was just as wonderful as the first, and with better weather. This is my go-to escape from the busy, stressful, hustle and bustle of Washington DC. A cool fall breeze and no bugs - couldn’t ask for more! Read up on Point Lookout. Very cool history and it’s Haunted. Boo!
Brandon is a great host and very easy to communicate with. He was very open abut the adjacent site ( which is an Airbnb) and keeping me informed of neighbors.
If your looking for solitude, be mindful of the adjacent site. Certainly not intrusive but if your not into make camp friends, might not be the site for you.

Peaceful, private, very hospitable
Great first camping experience! No worries about aggressive wildlife OR people. We were all alone to fish, camp, cook, and experience nature with our dog. Large site to camp and even bigger area to fish and play on the beach. Other reviews comment on the the condition of the beach due to erosion. We were there for 3 days. Every day was a different beach.
This is the nature of the bay. One day we had as much as 16 feet of beach. The next only 8. Two days of great fishing, one very choppy with seaweed everywhere. This is not a criticism but a fact of nature. The weather and tide decide, we can only experience it and hope for the best. What you can count on is Brandon being a great host. He met us on day one and lent us some extra fishing gear including tackle and came very happily to take away our trash bags when we left. We originally booked for two days but immediately booked a 3rd night after we arrived and saw the splendor and privacy of the bay. The one warning I offer is that getting to the beach is not for everyone. It's not as difficult as some reviews suggest but it would not suit the elderly or physically impaired. I have a have a bad hip but could manage with a good walking stick i found. Its about 4 steps down a steep sandy but sturdy hill. Even if you never touch the beach, the views from the campsite are gorgeous all day and the stars at night are amazing. The best though is the sunrise. I felt like we were the only ones seeing it. The houses on either side are far away and visible from the beach. Nice places with piers that only add to the view. We were never bothered and the no through road only experiences couple of cars a day. Great place, friendly host, overall fabulous experience!

Excellent spot but needs better upk
There is a second site about 25 feet away from the site that is available on air bnb. They are far too close to one another. Just not enough privacy and should only be one camp site. Aside from that it's a great spot right on the water. You have your own beach which would be amazing if not so many fallen trees but still not bad. There were also no trash bins available, the site said there would be bins.

A mixed bag
Site, space and noise
If the site were a bit better maintained and communication between the host and multiple groups were a little clearer, it would be absolutely fine. It's a long-ish but narrow site right off of a quiet road. It was easy to find. When we arrived we found another party of 5-6 folks had spread out into the pitch we'd reserved. They said the host said that no one would be on the site that evening. Host might have been confused because we booked for two nights, but I'd texted to say we could only make the first night after all, a Saturday. The other group immediately moved back over to their pitch and were pretty friendly about the mix up. It was a smallish space for 9 or so people (we were a party of 3). They played their music till around 11:30 or so, even though we asked them to turn if down/off twice when they came over to ask if it was too loud and to let them know if they were being obnoxious. When I camp I don't really like to have music at night. It detracts from the setting, in my opinion. On a larger or more secluded site it wouldn't have been an issue. To be fair to our host, we didn't raise this with him because we hoped to be able to work it out with the group directly, but no luck, and then it was quite late.
The beach was small and intersected by lots of fallen trees. You could still pick your way along it though, and explore a little. The scrabble down from the pitch on the left was a little awkward. Not ideal for the semi-mobile or very drunk.
Toilet
The porta-potty was very near the pitch, and it was really full--overdue for a change. We pretty much had constant whiffs of it during our stay, which was a shame. It was right upwind from the fire pit. If it were cleaned/cleared away more frequently, the proximity wouldn't be such a big deal. It was piled pretty high though, and there were a fair few critters inside.
The positives
On the positive side, this is a pretty spot, and you'll see some great sun rises. If you can bring a large group and book out the whole space, that would probably be your best bet. We bought some firewood from someone up the road--St Mary's County firewood I think, and the family were really lovely to talk to.

You can not beat the location of this site! It is right on the water, your own little beach. Some other campers mentioned that the beach is eroding away but I did not think it was that big of an issue. You can easily get down to the water from the bank. I would suggest wearing sandals in the water because it is pretty rocky when you first go in. We were able to kayak and swim with no trouble at all. The directions were easy to follow, simple and direct. We were camping in our small vintage camper and it was easy to pull in and set up. The site is right off the road so you can see cars go by but it is a dead-end street and not busy at all so that wasn't a problem. My only complaint is that the grounds are broken into 2 sites ( which I didn't see when booking) and they are very close together. We stayed for two nights and on the second night we had other campers come pretty late, around 9:40 pm. They were not the quietest crew so we could hear them all night into the early morning. If you have a larger group I would suggest booking both sites so you have a little more room and privacy. Other than that the overall trip was great and is like no other location I have been so far!

Brilliant location.
The location exceeds expectations. It's private, quiet, and basically on the beach. There is enough room on the site for multiple tents and different sizes, plenty of space for setting up tables and a large fire pit. The beach itself has enough width to hang out on, have a fire, and other simple activities. The view is as good as it gets on the bay. The water is shallow for a good distance out and is a mix of silty sand and scattered rocks.
The only real negative is the location of the port-o-potty which sometimes catches the wind and drifts unpleasant aromas through the site. Still, it's not a generally common occurrence and certainly minor when compared to all the positives. Very highly recommend the site.

Chasing sunrise.
If you are looking for tranquility you've found the right place. The site was awesome. Despite the erosion the beach was tremendous. The site is well cleared for camp and there was ample firewood for making fire. It was in the high 80s - low 90s and the water was so refreshing. Saw plenty rockfish if your into fishing. Unrelated to the site itself, we could have done without the biting flies. If you are lucky enough to get a bay breeze they weren't bad, but make sure you bring ample bug spray, and get a campfire started early otherwise they could be relentless. I look forward to returning to the site. Beautiful sunrises!

an Amazing trip!
We loved staying here!! It’s a combination of staying at a beach and camping in the woods. The property was amazing. being on the beach and being able to catch fish and also swim all day, we had a blast. thanks brandon for allowing us to stay and enjoy the 4th!
