**PLAN TO ARRIVE BEFORE DARK UNLESS YOU KNOW YOUR WAY AROUND THE DESERT.** EXPERIENCED ADVENTURERS AND THEIR DOGGIE COMPANIONS ONLY! THIS IS THE WILD WEST. THERE ARE NO LIGHTED PATHS. THIS IS A REMOTE CAMPSITE. THE IDEA IS TO GET OUT INTO NATURE WITHOUT LIGHT POLLUTION! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not book this campground if you have trouble reading maps and/or cutting and pasting GPS coordinates into google maps or equivalent. We'd LOVE to host you, but we just find being upfront about this property is best for all of us. NO TOILETS, NO WATER, NO ELECTRIC.... just YOU in all your magnificence, a beautiful wooden deck, a stone fire place, large wooden picnic table and maybe your family, friends and doggie pals. Mar and I visited 44 properties when deciding on land to buy in Joshua Tree in 2020. This one was hands down the most beautiful. We love the mixture of privacy, access to magnificent hiking and wildlife interactions... all while remaining with good cell coverage and close to downtown JT and the national park! Learn more about this land: Primitive camping at the base of Copper Mountain in Joshua Tree, California. Total Seclusion: Private 40 acres wilderness camping and/or event space. YOU ARE RENTING THE ENTIRE PROPERTY. OFF-LEASH ANIMAL FRIENDLY! We love your animal companions and understand they are family. They do not need to be leashed on our property... they can roam FREE! (Just please pick up after them so we can keep this policy in place!) If you want privacy, this is your (very large) spot. You will have 40 acres to enjoy. Bordering the 40 acres, our “neighbors” are three large empty lots and government land with no structures. We are located at the base of Copper Mountain. The soil here is very special. It has a magical mixture of inorganic materials, like crystals and metals, that have eroded down from Copper Mountain, mixed in a matrix of organic material, like grasses that have been made into a fine powder. The result is a natural landscape of orgone generating dirt. You can feel the energy here. There are plenty of dirt roads around the property for casual strolls and mountain biking... or take a short climb up the sandy incline at the back of the property and panoramic views of Joshua Tree await. This listing is not for the inexperienced camper! Please pack in, pack out all your trash and leave no trace besides footsteps. You will have access to a 12 foot (!!) handcrafted solid wood picnic table, handmade stone fire ring and brand new 24x12 foot wooden deck. VERY IMPORTANT: You must have a self-contained toilet system. Please pack out all your own waste. You will also need to bring your own WATER. Thank you! 4-wheel drive highly recommended but regular cars, RVs, Airstreams have previously gotten to PRIVATE 40 by taking it slow and easy with extra care. If you do get stuck (it NEVER happened before, but just in case)... you will need to call your own towing company. So please be mindful and understand your vehicle's limits. Wake at dawn to see the jackrabbits and listen to the coyotes howl as you fall asleep. Baby quail all in a line may entertain you. The starry nights are glorious here with clear skies most of the time and a lot less light pollution in the desert compared to the cities. Also, we have no surrounding street lamps! Most will find they have good cell service at our location. #NoPowerLines at our property makes for a real wilderness feel, even though we are very close to nearby points of interest. We are VERY centrally located for maximum enjoyment of the surrounding areas. Distances from PRIVATE 40 Acre Camp by car: Rt. 62: 8 minute drive Downtown Joshua Tree/Saturday Farmers Market: 11 minutes Joshua Tree National Park (Joshua Tree entrance): 19 mins Downtown Twentynine Palms: 18 mins Joshua Tree National Park (Twentynine Palms entrance): 23 mins Indian Cove: 16 mins PioneerTown: 29 mins Remember, this is the desert and conditions change rapidly. Please take a look at the local forecast and also plan for unexpected weather events. Strong winds, high temps, low temps... anything is possible out here in the wilderness. When you park your vehicle, we recommend using it as a wind break when possible. Noise disclosures: sometimes, especially on weekends, you may hear music and party noise from the nearby Bureau of Land Management lands. There is also a military base on the other side of mountain and you may hear them firing. Enjoy the fun from the privacy PRIVATE 40 Camp. We, Amanda and Mario, and our property manager, the delightful Liv, are so happy to be your hosts. Yoga retreats and musical events may be possible. Please inquire.There is only one site on our property and it's yours! You will have access to a 12 foot (!!) handcrafted solid wood picnic table, handmade stone fire ring and brand new 24x12 foot wooden deck. KEEP IN MIND: there are no signs or fences. We used to have signs but they were all taken down by desert folk who apparently didn't enjoy them. This land is very close to BLM land so some people do not know it is private property. You may have an ATVer or two drive by or a person who thinks they can camp near you, when this is in fact private property. Please be understanding and let them know they are not on BLM land but instead private land. This has never been an issue with some gentle education for these unknowing folks, but it does happen from time to time. A fence on a property this large wouldn't be financially feasible for us at this moment so we wanted to give you a heads up that these experiences are possible. If you would like a less "wild" experience we'd recommend a campsite in a more populated area in someone's fenced yard.

We loved camping on Amanda and Mario’s property. We started our week off by checking out the Famers market in Joshua Tree and grabbing lunch in town. The instructions to find the property were very easy to follow and both Amanda and Mario responded quickly to our questions. The sun set views were gorgeous, and the star gazing was insane! Having the long picnic table and yoga platform was such a nice amenity to have during our stay. We would love to go back again and share the spot with friends!

Great open space. Was many ATV's around us but didn't really bother us. Noise was off in distance. Star gazing was amazing. One thing I would recommend is adding to directions when following coordinates when coming to fence go to the right of the fenced in area. Our GPS coordinates wanted to put to the left of fence.

Great Dog Camp

I've been here several times with my GSD. It was reasonably quiet (next to BLM land). And is private. Perfect environment to teach recall and get out that pent up energy. Hiking for as long as you desire.Your dog will be tired physically and mentally by the end of your stay.

My Go To HipCamp

This my Go to Hipcamp for Joshua Tree. This is my 3rd time and it doesn't disappoint. If you like to hike and have a dog this area is awesome and trails ho on forever. Really no reason to go to Joshua Tree where dogs need to be on leash and not allowed on most trails.

This is a great remote spot. Loved being away from other campers. The site is well maintained and level. The hosts were awesome. We ended up arriving after dark and they were very helpful in helping us find the site. The hosts encourage you to arrive during daylight - we second this! We will definitely stay again.

I was sad to leave!

I was sad to leave this hipcamp! A wonderful spot. I came with my GSD to refine some training, and do some hiking off leash. He loved it, and I loved it. Highly recommend if you want to let your dog be a dog. Beware, it's the desert and there is some debris of all sorts. Also, if your dog is not accustomed to this terrain you might consider boots.

Amazing for events!

I rented this spot for a camping relay race event and it was amazing! Amanda and Mario were very accomiding and had experiance with large groups on their land before. That made everything easy and smooth. The plot of land is massive and had tons of space for parking (which we had 25 cars and 1 RV) and all the tents people were sleeping in! The stars are incredible at night and everyone had a blast! 45 people running and partying in the desert was such a smash. Can't wait to do it again next year!

One of the best spots outside JTNP!

This is such a great spot. if you're going to be out there for a full day you need to have sunscreen and something to give you shade. The night sky is amazing and worth the scorch of the dry windy day. I definitely recommend hiking to the top of Copper mt, amazing views.

We loved this site! Beautiful and far from BLM campers. A bit tricky to find but the instructions were as clear as possible. We came during a full moon so stars were hard to see but I imagine during a new moon this spot would be spectacular for star gazing.

We loved camping at this private desert site with a view of the mountains. The hosts were very communicative and accommodating. The only slight negative is that we arrived after dark, and the directions were challenging to follow with no lights or signs, for example, "drive 1/2 mile past the pavement and turn East at the fence." We would stay here again.

A great spot for camping and relaxing outside of Joshua Tree National Park. Directions to the site were clear and got us there easily. The campsite was clean and well marked and I loved having a picnic table. The dogs loved lounging on the deck too. There is BLM nearby, so expect some noise, but it wasn't bad. Took us 20 minutes to get into the park from the site. Was a great, relaxing site and we'll probably use it again the next time we're in the area.

Amanda and Mario were so nice. This spot is wonderful and in a good location yet far enough out for a little isolation. Don't try to find it at night, it's difficult. Also there were some campers there who thought it was blm land but were cool and moved. Amanda and Mario gave me an additional night for that without even asking. Highly recommended, I really enjoyed my stay.

Bad campsite with bad hosts

The hosts stated that this property could fit a Class A RV. It absolutely cannot. The only thing it could fit is a small RV, a car/truck, or a car/truck with small trailer. Also, in their listing they warned not to drive off of the road, so you can’t just park a large RV or truck/trailer anywhere on the property. When we got there at 4pm we found the road was buried under sand and was impassable. We called, texted, and emailed the host to make sure we could drive off of the road to get there or get different directions. They didn’t respond until 2am. We unhooked our trailer and made it out to the property with just our truck. We realized the property couldn’t fit a larger trailer like they said it could and we had to find another place to camp. We asked for a refund, because they misrepresented the property and we couldn’t stay there with our trailer, but the host denied the refund. The condition of the property was bad. The deck had so much trash piled underneath and around it. The water spigot was broken off. If you want to use either campfire rings, you’ll have to bring gloves and a shovel and repair them yourself. There were metal wires on the ground, glow sticks, etc. I’d suggest bringing some gloves with you to cleanup the site when you first get there. 1/10 I would not stay at this property even if I had a small trailer that could fit. The hosts need to at least make some effort to keep it clean and maintained or else why would you pay to stay there.

The 40 Acre Campsite is a great place to set up camp! The huge picnic table, deck, and fire pit were all we needed for a memorable trip to Joshua Tree. The site is close to town which was a big plus. There is no water on site, so bring plenty. The camp can be difficult to find after dark, but the hosts Amanda and Mario provided detailed instructions that helped us get there. There is some ATV noise from the surrounding area but I didn’t find it disruptive (and I’m pretty sound-sensitive). We would definitely book again!

We loved our initial stay so much we cam back for more. Spent another weekend at 40 acres and it was s wonderful as our first stay. There is enough space for privacy and plenty of room to explore. This time around we did some star gazing on the platform and it was amazing. Thanks again to our amazing hosts!
