This open camp tent area is owned by (and was/is built by) the former HGTV host of the show "Tiny House Builders". The site also houses a "wooden tent" or micro glamping pod named "The Little Lantern" (a second listing) that is fun to check out, take pix of, store gear in- the structures serve as windbreaks and shade walls for tent campers and you can hang out on the benches near them, use their fire pits, and so on. The owner is also the author of several design and budget-build/reuse books (the bestseller "Micro Shelters" and others). Decades back this land was the site of an old RV park, so we've been in the long process of cleaning it up and removing junk from some corners of the site- but a bit still remains (its NOT pristine- still in the works). As a result you'll find some cool, weird, and unusual detritus and salvage out here (but not so much close to the camp spots)- old car parts, industrial knobs and dials- feel free to explore. Camp at your own risk though if you wander off to check this stuff out. The immediate camping area is cleared/clean. This has made it a favorite spot for junk collectors and photographers (we've found everything from old coins, to actual silver, cool rocks/geodes, and vintage car parts). This place would also make for a great spot for video or fashion shoots (which aren't allowed unless you seek separate permission from us!). Its a dirt site, but easy to get into, easy to pull into and turn around in (even with an RV), and you basically have about 5 acres all to yourself in most cases. There is one other camp site on the property (two total- the little lantern, and the van area for tenting- they are separate and spread out). Note: As I'm not sure of the current hip camp/country standings (new vague rules), I had removed this listing/put it on "hold", but it keeps going live/not adjusting- for that reason I'm just going to keep it live and allow people to book/stay until things are figured out by hip camp (so as not to inconvenience anyone).

Four-wheel drive is recommended, though many standard vehicles and RVs have accessed the property by driving slowly and carefully. If a vehicle becomes stuck, guests are responsible for arranging their own towing. This is unfenced private land bordering public Bureau of Land Management (BLM) areas. On rare occasions, someone may mistakenly pass through assuming the land is public. This has always been resolved easily by letting them know they are on private property. Located at the base of Copper Mountain, the property offers wildlife sightings, panoramic views, and generally good cell service despite the remote feel. Weekend Trip to JT High desert Hideout

We came on a father/son campout. Not having any camping gear, everything was supplies- and more. The beds were clean and comfortable. The hosts were above and beyond hospitable. We had a great time.

My partner and I had a great time. Loved the seclusion, the view, the amenities. Charming, quirky decor. Comfy bed. Spacious bathroom. Hot water flowed nicely. The hot tub was great, we used it at night in ~55° weather and it was so soothing especially after hiking in Joshua Tree. AC was efficient too. There is a bit of a distance between the amenities though. The sink, hot tub, and fire pit were all separate from the room. It made cooking and cleaning difficult for us. I recommend preparing only simple meals here, as the stove top is small and space is limited. Overall, I recommend this place. The owner is friendly and fast-responding. If you’re looking for a private, relaxing getaway just a few minutes from Joshua Tree, this is the spot. The view of the desert is vast and unforgettable.

I absolutely enjoyed the experience staying in the Domestead. The outdoor fire pit was perfect to just relax around and take in the stars. Enjoyed the morning view being able to open the curtains enjoy the sun coming up. Would definitely stay again when I’m back in the area.

This is such a peaceful spot! The lodging was small, but cozy and we were provided everything we needed for the night. The road to get there can be rough, but we just took it slow and had no problem. Worth it! Such a unique experience :)

This property was so beautiful and serene. As you drive in there is a little hill and on the other side is just the cabins and land as far as the eye can see. My daughters had fun exploring the property and my dog was in heaven! My family loved sitting in the hot tub under the stars. The host Serina was SO responsive and answered all questions right away. I would love to take my family back! We explored Joshua Tree during the day and loved the beauty of the desert.

Perfect private campsite, so close to two different Joshua Tree entrances. Campsite was large enough for pur 24' camper trailer and then some. Site was level amd very clean. Directions were easy to follow. We loved the picnic table, large fire pit and the star gazing deck.

Enjoyed the peace and quiet for a much-needed retreat from busyness. It’s a taste of desert life. Safe and simple. Will return when needed, and the front row seat for the Milky Way season. But I may ask Jessica to not let me know the wifi password, to make it a more complete retreat.

Tammy was so great! She was very friendly and accommodating and Miss Piggy her pet pig was so cute. We got to feed her some blueberries we brought. The sunset and the sunrise on the campsite were beautiful. The site itself has a chair and fire pit, and there was a mostly even spot where we placed the tent. The instructions to arrive were a little confusing but we made it so all was well. The outhouse is not the best so I recommend going while you’re visiting the Joshua tree visitor center or other place. Overall I enjoyed my time at this campsite!

My sister and I greatly enjoyed camping here! We were there at a relatively quiet time and found the area quiet and relaxing for down afternoons after hiking in Joshua Tree. Centrally located to both northern entrances, as well as food and coffee shops (highly recommend Mas o Menos), this is a great place to camp outside the park. We were also impressed with the cleanliness of the bathrooms and showers.
