This was originally a Girl Scout camp called Singing Pines back in the 30’s. You’ll see as you roam around some of the original buildings and structures. It hasn’t been in operation as a Girl Scout camp for over 30 years. The bigger building is an Airbnb for groups. They will also have access to the lake. DIRECTIONS: Take Exit for Angeles Crest Hwy (Hwy 2) from the 210 Go North, up the mountain for 29 miles Turn left on Sulpher Springs Rd Go about a mile and you will see a Singing Pines sign up on a hill on the right side. There is a white gate which is usually open but if it's closed go ahead and open it. Go down that driveway about a mile and turn left at the fork. Follow that road down and around the lake staying to the right. Once you passed the lake there will be a little uphill and the location is on the left. Learn more about this land: The Skoolie is a converted short bus with two love seats that convert to an RV queen bed, sink, stove top, dinette, and over head lights. Outside is a private meadow with a short walk to a small lake. You can bring your fishing gear. It's stocked with Bass and Bluegill. Outside the Skoolie is a picnic table, fire pit (firewood $10 a bundle) and a hammock. Up the hill, a very short walk is the private campground toilet facility. This is not shared with anyone else. No cell phone reception no linens bring a sleeping bag or warm blankets. You can charge your phone in the Skoolie for a sunrise alarm or just to take pictures.

Even though Deep Creek has never had any known cases of amoeba outbreaks, be advised that the warm waters around hot springs can carry a sometimes fatal amoeba. *Although children are permitted at most sites on the property (children are not permitted at the cabin or spring pool sites), we do not recommend bringing them due to occasional nudity that may be seen in the area and the degree of difficulty for the hike. In order to be prepared with the correct gear to make the hike to the hot springs and know the USFS rules that apply to the area, please educate yourself before coming by visiting the USFS website page for the Deep Creek area. Know before you go! The Deep Creek Hot Springs Campground is part of the historic Bowen Ranch property that was homesteaded in 1924 and has been the camping and parking area for the Deep Creek Hot Springs for nearly a century. Cold Creek is a unique 112-acre property in the San Bernardino National Forest. Because of its location in a 3,200 foot elevation, it's colder than the Southern California deserts and warmer than the cold mountains above us. Our temperatures rarely exceed 90F and rarely drop below 40F. We have plenty sun and about two to three days of snow every winter. My family loves camping here it is very quiet and peaceful. Watching the stars is one of the best features plenty of shooting stars and constellations to admire all night. It's a 4 hour walk to the gas station so please be mindful and be prepared

2 nights at Skoolie in a secluded meadow

This place had it all! Alittle less than an hour outside of town but completely in nature! We ended up walking around and exploring for about an hour and still didn’t see all of the property. Brian was awesome and left us with water and an ice chest! Propane stove with pots and pans, designated fire pits, toilet out house.

Weekend Trip to Harmony Heaven Campyard

Tam was a wonderful host. The experience could not have been better. We brought our 6 year old and there was a gorgeous pool, a firepit for smores, even farm animals in a little secluded area ( no smell either!) Did I mention the koi pond? Or the hot shower and flushing toilet? This is definately glamping! We stayed in the safari tent which was super comfortable bedding and stayed warm. It is a small area inside tent with a support pole in the middle (for us, as a family of 3) We were there alone but there are 2 other cute little campers surrounding the firepit so you may have a group camp experience but each area has its own picnic set up. We hiked Etiwanda Falls at daylight and overall the whole experience was truly magical. We will book again!

Weekend Trip to Desert Stargazers Dream

Pros: quite close to LA and while it isn’t the darkest sky, you’re still able to see so many stars and meteors. Very isolated area where we did not see nor hear from a single soul during our time there. We really enjoyed cowboy camping under the stars and counting all the meteors we saw. Some spotty service with only the occasional SOS. Cons: 4WD is necessary. Drive slow, follow the directions, have offline maps and directions downloaded. Be prepared to possibly get stuck in sand and have the appropriate tools to get yourself out. The links in the message from the host are broken. The painted rocks/lines noted in the directions are difficult to locate and should consider a different means to determine where to park on the site as well as outlining where the fire pit is. Myself and the camp managed just fine, but be sure to allocate a lot of time to do those things before dark. Unfortunately, the host was not reachable during our time there, but we made the booking last minute so not a huge fault that the host was without service during that time. All in all, would come out again, just would be better prepared with regards to our arrival time.

Tam’s campground is a true unexpected gem! It’s close to all the dining and shopping you would need, but also very close to some incredible hikes near Mt Baldy! The views from the backyard are incredible, and it feels very private. The fruit trees and animals added to the peaceful atmosphere, you don’t feel like you’re in the suburbs at all! The campground itself is very well equipped and cozy, and Tam is a great host who went above and beyond to make us comfortable. There is not much else like this in the area, and this was truly one of the best values I’ve ever gotten in this app. Highly recommend!

Such a magical little place. I felt really grateful to be able to stay here. The property is beautiful, and I loved having the birds and the goat around. It had everything I needed, and I stayed in the trailer, which was cozy with a really comfortable bed. Tam was such a lovely host, incredibly warm and helpful. She took the time to tell me about the property and all of her fruit trees. I took a quick dip in the pool and it was the perfect temperature. I really loved my stay and hope to stay again soon.

This was a really lovely stay. Tam was a fantastic host, super accommodating and helpful! The space was very clean and the tent was very cozy. I got to take a dip in the pool, spend some time with the koi fish, and relax in the backyard. Would absolutely come back!

About

Located just outside of Los Angeles County in the Mojave Desert, El Mirage Lake truly lives up to its name. This dry lakebed often boasts spectacular views and mindbending mirages across what used to be a six-mile-wide lake. Nowadays, El Mirage Lake is used as an OHV or off-highway vehicle recreation area. From ultralight aircraft, gyrocopters, and land-yachts, to full-size airplanes, this large swath of land is perfect for aircraft enthusiasts. If flying isn't quite your speed, feel free to take off across the expanse atop your non-aircraft. Made popular by the many car commercials filmed at this location, the lakebed is the perfect place to test the speed of your automobile.

When to go

The best time to visit El Mirage Dry Lake OHV Area is during the cooler months, from late fall to early spring, when the desert temperature is pleasant for outdoor activities. Summer visits are possible but expect extreme heat. Always check for current conditions and closure status before planning your trip.

Know before you go

Before heading to El Mirage, ensure your vehicle has a valid pass, with daily, weekly, and seasonal options available.
OHVs must comply with California regulations, including registration and safety equipment.
For safety, spins, donuts, and drifting are prohibited, and alcohol or drug use while operating OHVs is illegal.
Remember to pack out all trash and avoid bringing glass containers or pallets.
Wearing an approved safety helmet is mandatory for all ATV riders on public lands.
