Goffs Schoolhouse is a really special place! I used the gps coordinates sent by the host, and didn’t quite arrive at the driveway. But Laura was immediate to respond by hipcamp messenger and phone, and she gave me directions to get to the right place! She had Chris meet me with a golf cart to direct me to a spot with a 30amp electrical hookup. He gave me the Official Guide to the Mojave Desert Heritage and Cultural Association’s Schoolhouse, Outdoor Museum, “Outdoors” Trail, for what basically seems like a small town that is an homage to the history of the early settlement of Goffs, with the railroad, and the preservation of the Goffs Schoolhouse. He also gave a quick overview of practical camping matter — the water hookup, and nearby bathhouse, outhouse with flush toilet, and laundry. Everything was in good repair and well-maintained. The spots were level. Everything was clean. Everywhere I looked, there was something interesting to see. I’m sure photographers have a field day there!
Apparently there are 75 acres of property to explore. The sun was intense, I was traveling with an elder dog who had limited mobility, and I was tired from a day of driving, so we didn’t take advantage of the exploring opportunities. On our short walks, my dog did not get any goatheads or pokers in her paws, which is amazing in the desert!
The bathhouse shower was hot, the nighttime temps were very pleasant, I saw a convenient RV tank dump spot, but I didn’t need it. I hope to return again!

Beautiful property with lots of cool stuff to see. The hosts are super friendly and even pointed us in the right direction for gas. We were about to head to a station without any gas. They were super friendly and responsive. Wish we could’ve had more time to explore the property but we only had the one night. Bathroom was clean and locked nicely once inside for privacy. Super nice star views at night.

What a gem of a stop on old Route 66. We were greeted warmly by Shannon who showed us around and helped us find the right spot for us. She was very responsive to any of our questions. It was so fun to walk around the grounds and learn the history. The sunset was spectacular and the night sky filled with stars. It was so quiet at night, yes the occassional train but it felt far enough away to just be charming and it definitely did not wake us up.

This place is a little hidden gem. Maybe only hidden cause we had a bit of a late arrival, but a gem nonetheless. A super cute area off of Route 66 that was 100% worth a longer stay than we had time for. There's a whole preserve & museum area they have set up - wonderful!

We are traveling up the state across the desert on motorcycles. Stopped into Goff's Schoolhouse for the night. Chris greeted us promptly and filled us in with all of the areas history. Great campsite and amenities. I highly recommend.

I had a wonderful HipCamp stay at Goffs Schoolhouse, right along historic Route 66 at the Mojave Desert Heritage & Cultural Site. The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived.
The setting is truly special; wide open skies, a stunning desert sunset, and a peaceful sense of history all around you. Exploring the grounds was a highlight, with fascinating museum objects and artifacts that really bring the area’s past to life.
The bathrooms were clean and well maintained, and the signage is helpful. You can hear the trains passing by at night, but honestly, it didn’t detract from the experience at all. I enjoyed one of the best sleeps ever, and with a pair of earplugs, it’s no problem whatsoever. Overall, this was a unique, comfortable, and memorable stay, and I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a one-of-a-kind desert camping experience on Route 66. :)

My son and his friends had an amazing time exploring the property and stargazing. He couldn’t stop raving about how much fun he had and how beautiful the night sky was. He is a budding astral photographer and this was his first opportunity to really get up close and personal with the night sky. He found Laura and her crew to be super helpful and friendly and he can’t wait to go back. Thank you for making his experience so amazing!

Perfectly situated in the middle of nowhere. Completely authentic and extremely interesting. Ground is flat and made of perfectly uniform decomposed granite, so fine you can walk barefoot. Priceless desert vista in all directions. We chose a spot next to the old train depot to car camp overnight. This Hipcamp was exactly half way between our trip from the coast to Sedona. We were greeted at dusk, set up camp, slept, and left around 9. There was only one other camper in the whole place which we had basically to ourselves and our two annoying dogs. The bathroom was clean and well decorated- complete with a nice shower. The bi-hourly freight trains that pass in the night may be an issue for some, but the noise was not as extreme as some have stated in other reviews. If you think about it, you are considering staying at a train museum so the fact that there are active tracks nearby shouldn’t be a shocker! The place is off Route 66 which loops off of 40 so the distance from the highway is a non issue as you can take a short side route on Route 66 without the 11 mile drive in being an issue. Will stay again and hopefully late enough in the morning to visit the museum.

Amis Français. L’endroit est vraiment unique et le train ne m’a pas empêché de dormir (mais c’est vrai qu’il passe souvent). Par contre, nous avons prévenu notre arrivée tardive, malgré ça, personne pour nous accueillir, obligé d’appeler la propriétaire. Son manageur est venu nous a expliqué en toute vitesse. J’ai demandé les douches il s’est contenté de me donner les toilettes…. Dans le noire impossible de voir où se trouvaient les douches. Les toilettes sales.
Le lendemain nous avons trouvé la douche, pas très propres non plus… mais il fallait prendre la douche. Je n’ai jamais eu le code wifi… dommage le coin était quand même atypique mais il faut quand même faire un effort niveau communication et propreté.

Nice overnight stay at the museum. Chris was very helpful and knowledgeable. We really love the vibe and scenery, but the train noise did it make it hard to get a good night's rest. I would stay again, but earplugs may be needed.

We had a wonderful time at Goff’s Schoolhouse, Laura met us with a smile & made us feel extremely welcome straight away. We then had the pleasure of meeting Chris who talked us through the history of the Schoolhouse & pointed out loads of interesting items for us to look at. We were completely unaware of the history behind Goff’s & couldn’t be more pleased that we stumbled across this gem which gave us a completely different experience to what we have seen throughout the rest of our trip.
We highly recommend this campsite & are truly grateful for the hospitality we experienced. It was a great option to stay between Joshua Tree National
Park & the Grand Canyon.

What a treat! We came in our EV truck. The level 2 charger was reliable. We enjoyed sleeping under the stars. The camphosts were welcoming and helpful.

Chris met us at the front gate and ushered us to our campsite. Chris and Jennifer welcomed us and we're very knowledgeable with RV experience which we really appreciated. Our site was just as we expected. We came to appreciate all that was happening in Goffs and plan to return in the future.

Very unique spot to get off the interstate and camp for the night. We liked this spot and would come back again but bring ear plugs next time. The train passed by a number of times throughout the night blasting the horn for a near by road crossing. The host was also very attentive and helpful.

We were met immediately by the camp hosts which we learned are moving along their own trail at the end of this month. They invited us for campfire and made us feel welcome, shared awesome knowledge about the schoolhouse and surrounding land. Our host chased me down when I missed my turn (it’s the dirt/gravel road immediately to the left off Route 66) and escorted us right to our spot. Then he stayed late to introduce us to the schoolhouse and shared some great photography with us. Walked the grounds the following morning with crisp freeze dried air. What a great find along the famous Route 66. We’re headed back 2 weeks from now for another night and looking forward to touring even more. 10/10 enjoyed this special place.

Impossible to communicate effectively with hosts at 8pm on evening of arrival - phone button did not work in app and no reply to my messages. Found a locked gate late at night on arrival due to issues on the road. Not a great experience having to camp on the side of the road a few hundred meters from the site we had paid for.

We enjoyed our one night here. The parking space was roomy for our 40ft RV, and we loved that they provided electric and water hookups. The museum is fun to walk around. We took a trip over to the Kelso Dunes in Mojave. The only downside is how loud the train is throughout the night.

The spot was amazing with a lot of history. You really sleep in the middle of a museum.
Jim, who welcomed us, was super nice and took the time to show us the place.
The only bad fact is that the place is close to the railroad. If you like trains you’ll love the spot.

Staying at Goff’s Schoolhouse was awesome. Got there just in time to see sunset and staff greeted us at the gate and showed us an amazing location that we could really experience the beauty of the land as the sun went down. Bathrooms were so amazing and clean, shower was wonderful. We had to leave a little early so we didn’t get to experience the library or museum but did walk around and the space has been so week curated - 10/10 on this spot. Thanks to everyone there!
