Cove #1 and 2 are quite spacious and tucked under the shade of large Oak trees, great for staying cool on hot days, maybe not so great if you need to recharge batteries with solar. Showers and toilets are a short walk away. All of the campsites aren't far from the main road so there is considerable road noise during the day, but it quiets down to almost none at night. There are so many stars visible after dark, it's magical. I didn't have the opportunity to meet the property manager, but I did notice him assisting other guests and the housekeeper, Janice watched out for me as a solo female camper, even bringing me leftovers from her Thanksgiving dinner. :)

I brought a lighter sleeping bag with me, for a mid-November evening it was a tad colder than I expected, so would recommend a heavier sleeping bag/heavier duvet. But that’s on me. Amy was an amazing host and very easy comms :)

Absolutely incredible. It was the perfect spot for a weekend with my little Ford Maverick and Go Fast Camper setup. I did not have much communication with the host, but I honestly did not need much since everything was straightforward. It was a busy festival weekend, so the parking attendants were a huge help. The only suggestion I have is to include a bit more information in the instructions/getting there section after booking. Without the parking attendants I probably would have been a little confused 😅 so a simple map and some friendly instructions would probably avoid some unnecessary confusion. Not a dig on the site at all, just a friendly suggestion. Aside from that, the campsite gets rave reviews from me because of how easy and wonderful it was to stay in this beautiful western-style town. The animals at the petting zoo can be a little loud at times, but I found it charming and part of the experience. This would not be an issue for anyone in an RV. I was in an RV spot with my truck tent, so tent campers might want to bring simple earplugs since the roosters start early. Do not let that deter you. It truly is a unique and very cool place to camp. The campground is fairly minimal, but it is well maintained, safe, and friendly. Being able to walk back to your site after a night at Pappy and Harriet’s in only two minutes is worth its weight in gold. 🍻 Thanks, and I will definitely be rebooking!

LOCATION: We are located one mile down a well maintained and navigable dirt road, 20 minutes to Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs and Palm Desert, and 15 minutes to the 10 freeway. We're near the Cabazon outlets, 2 hours to Los Angeles, San Diego, Disneyland, mountain areas, and beaches. Nearby there are local wildlife preserves, hiking and outdoor activities. We are 45 minutes to Joshua Tree and a half hour to Coachella. We truly are in the middle of nowhere and the center of everything. For folks traveling in winter, we’re considerably warmer than Joshua Tree and the High Desert. In summer we are cooler than Palm Springs. Immediate neighbors are small farmers and ranchers. Local spas and resorts are available for day use and access to their pools and ponds for as little as $10 a day ($5 seniors). We can provide space for events and entertainment for a small fee. ARRIVAL: Upon approving your reservation we'll send you a welcome message with information we need prior to your arrival to process your reservation, prepare for your arrival and provide you with check in information and accurate directions as gps apps to our location are often wrong. Please answer that initial email as soon as possible. We'll follow up with check in information and driving directions. Once in the gate, stay on the driveway and meet us on the patio with the blue shade sails. We will provide you with an approximately 15 minute orientation and tour, register you, check identification and show you to your campsite. Guests are required to fill out a liability waiver and a simple registration form. (See photos for copies of these forms.) OUR SPACE: Our land is 130 feet wide by an eighth of a mile deep in a residential neighborhood with lots 2.5-10 acres. We can see and hear our neighbors. We maintain a very quiet space but occasionally our neighbors have their own activities and events. Let us know if the neighborhood gets too noisy and we'll try to mitigate those situations. We can also provide free earplugs for those very rare occasions. Guests wanting a totally isolated experience may want to book elsewhere. DragonflyHill Desert Farm is a working farm in a wilderness area. Guests should check weather forecasts prior to arrival and assure that they have the right equipment. We have a moderate cancellation policy that allows guests to cancel 3 days prior to their arrival date to receive a refund. This allows enough time to check weather reports. There are occasional heavy rains and frequent high winds. It can get very hot in summer and reach freezing temperatures in winter. Despite our proximity to the freeway and nearby cities, and our location in a residential neighborhood, this is very much a wilderness area. DragonflyHill is not responsible for the weather. We are not a resort. Expect dry plants and patches during summer and into the fall. As a farm, we may be a bit more rustic than your typical farm to allow for shelter for local wildlife. Our cultivation methods encourage biodiversity and though we are growing food, many of our crops resemble landscaping or natural habitat rather than garden patches. Currently we have habitat viewing areas, an herb garden, an orchard, an outdoor classroom, a sheltered social distancing patio, an outdoor kitchen, meditation gardens, our (seasonal) mineral pool, community library, game boards and toys, and a tree bath. Plant varieties, wildlife and presentation may vary by season. Our farm specializes in herbs, fruit trees, desert and native plants, and edible flowers. We also grow some sprouts and microgreens indoors. We cultivate community and share what we grow with our neighbors and our guests. Guests have shared access to the outdoor kitchen and BBQ area, the orchards, gardens, patios, and grounds of the Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat, and (for safety reasons) limited access to the pool pond and spa -both unheated. The pool pond is filled with local mineral water from our own well. The pool pond is cleaned regularly & is chlorinated. The pool pond is not cleaned daily and is shared with wildlife. including bees and birds who drink water pool side. Debris from high winds and wildlife may contribute to the pool pond environment. Currently neither the pool pond nor the spa is heated. We also have wheelchair accessible hot water outdoor showers and wheelchair accessible porta potties. The pool area is accessible to guests year round but the pool itself is winterized and unavailable from mid October through mid to late April. We work hard to keep the home well maintained & clean; we're vigilant & do due diligence with professional quarterly visits from Truly Nolen 4 Season Pest Prevention (a green company.) We doubt you'll see any unwanted critters inside or near the house or other structures during your stay, but if you do, please advise us & we will promptly address the situation. DragonflyHill Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat is in a remote area of the desert with lots of wildlife. To help us keep wildlife OUT of the house and campsites, please keep food out of reach of critters & clean up after every meal. We affirmatively welcome children, but as this is a working farm in a wilderness area, parents will need to be vigilant of their child's safety and activity while here. We are constantly adding activities and features for children and adults. We are child friendly and we are a good location for groups. (Just message us with your details and we can tailor your stay to meet your needs.) We have 1 cat and 1 service dog. Other guests may have pets or assistance animals. Neighbors have chickens, farm animals and pets. There are a few feral cats in the vicinity as well as a variety of desert wildlife. At night you can hear the coyotes though we’ve never seen them or their tracks on our land. Common sightings of road runners, rabbits, hares, lizards, snakes, hawks, doves, desert wrens, migrating ducks (in the Spring), scorpions, mantises, crickets, mockingbirds, insects and spiders. WHO WE ARE: DragonflyHill is a community of artisans, activists, craftspeople and farmers, working together to cultivate community, develop methodologies for living and working together in ever increasing paradigms of social justice and sustainability. We are a safe and sober space that is disability and LGBTQIA affirmative, anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-imperialist and de-colonialist, because anything else is just a bandaid. At 10,833 feet in elevation, this is the second highest peak in California. There are two ways to get to the summit. You can hike the whole thing or shave off about 6000 vertical feet by riding the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Either way, the summit is not to be missed.

For a real challenge try the epic Cactus to Clouds trail. It was rated as one of the hardest day hikes in the world by Backpacking Magazine. Its 21 miles take you skyward through sub-alpine forests, mountain meadows, snow-dusted crags, and gnarled granite. An alpine start is required to avoid the midday heat so be prepared and take plenty of water.

Campers have plenty to choose from. The San Jacinto area offers two drive-in campsites, four hike-in primitive campsites, and adventures for every brand of wilderness craving. If you want to backpack to the summit over a day or two try the Deer Springs Trail. This park has adventures for every brand of wilderness craving.

Little Round Valley Campground

Be advised that there is no connection with Verizon, AT& or T-Mobile. I'm not sure why they don't allow campfires while other campsites still allow it. That kind of ruined it for us. Nice campsite, the bathrooms are pretty gross and far from the camp depending on where you are. We use them more as a base camp to climb to the peak.

Pretty campground within walking distance to shopping in town - best of both worlds! GREAT mountain shop nearby (Nomad Adventures) with friendly staff who know their stuff and provide great hike advice. Site #4 is heavily shaded, #17 has dappled shade (our stay) - you will want shade during summer months. Sites 21-25 have uninspiring view of a truck facility next door, so avoid if you can. Pines, oaks, manzanita and STARS! 5 minute showers are enough to clean body and a few items of clothing before shut-off. Some have mentioned noise of road - not too bad for us, but we were midweek. Some folks come up to party LOUDLY all night and this was an issue, but camp host and a ranger # that is posted on bathrooms took care of this promptly.

Pretty campground (for the most part) with walking distance access to town. GREAT mountain shop (Nomad Adventures) in town with terrific friendly staff who really know their stuff. The campground has nice showers that are set at 5 minutes, which is long enough to do a good wash-up of body and a few items of clothing before the water shuts off. It is cold at first, then goes to a medium heat throughout - there's no hot/cold controls. Some sites have great shade, some not so much, which you will want in summer. #4 is heavily shaded by oaks, #17 has dappled shade. 21-25 have uninspiring views of a truck facility next door. Noise can be an issue. Some folks come to party all night, but campground host and a nighttime # to call fixes it fast.

Yes, I went by myself on July 21 and it was so hard I had to make a 2 day trip a 3 day to rest in between...whew! I wrote a review with pics. haven't seen it posted yet.

Great campground! It's got everything you might need and located a five minute walk away from downtown Idyllwild! Highly recommend it to campers of all experiences!

I always try to be mindful of other campers and respect the volume, but at this campground, there's many that just go to party and make noise. Makes me sound like a grumpy old man, but when you're drunk and yelling at 1 am, there's just a limit.

10/10 recommend! We stayed here this weekend so (late november). The weather was pretty chilly at night but the campground was so clean and beautiful. There were giant trees completely surrounding us. Each site was spread out enough so that we had enough privacy. The rate was only around 30 dollars a night. The bathrooms were spotless! We brought our dog along with us and you do have to keep them on a leash but she was happy to be sitting with us by the fire! This campsite is right by a TON of beautiful hiking/sightseeing spots. If you have pets, I would highly recommend the Ernie Maxwell trail in Humber Park. Also this campground is right by markets and cool little shops and restaurants. My husband and I will for SURE be returning.

Taking the tram up was a great way to escape the heat of Palm Springs. We still broke a sweat with a solid 7 miles of hiking, but it was really enjoyable. I would say it was definitely worth the $25.

Tamarack Valley Campground

Fires were not allowed while we were here. The sites are spaced far apart, so you should have plenty of privacy. Afternoon thunderstorms aren't uncommon, so always be prepared for weather. The water tastes great once it's been filtered. It's an easy two miles uphill from the tram station. Recommend taking the high trail on your way back, as it provides better views and a change of scenery from the creek trail.

We had a wonderful two nights backpack camping here in late May 2017. Temps ranged from 75 deg daytime to 50 at night. Running stream for filtered water, pit toilets, and plenty of space and privacy for each campsite. You can hike 4-5 peaks including San Jacinto at 10,800 ft over the two days. Take the PS tram to the top and enjoy your hike!

Beautiful!!! Nice and cool and surrounded by trees! Lots of places to hike and find time a lone or am adventure with a loved one! Don't forget to bring water! There is a lodge up the highway if you need anything.

Stone Creek Campground

Very quiet and a great alternative if you are not able to snag a primitive site. Fire pits, bathrooms, running water. Close to Lake Hemit.

Nearby neighborhood has potential for some noise, especially in the evening. Otherwise a very calm and peaceful campground! Gorgeous paths within campground for exploring with kids and pets. Walking distance to town, but it's a long walk - I recommend driving into town, but walking inside campground. Nature Center nearby offers discount tickets for accessing its trails and museum if you're a camper!

Be sure to hike until you actually see the campsite markers. The rangers are very particular about people camping in the designated sites.

The town is very close and you can walk there in 2 mins. They have bars, markets, restaurants and other small town stores. So if you forget bring water or wood for camp fires they're available. Plenty of hiking trails and if you want to go hiking up the mountains, permits available at the ranger station where you enter the campgrounds.

Oh the sweet smell of pine! Stayed for 4th of July weekend watching the stars and milkyway go by. Awesome campsite, very clean toilets and showers. Surrounded by pine trees every where! there's a couple of lakes where you can go and fish. 5k elevation so day time gets hot even when the temp is low.

Strawberry Junction Campground

We absolutely love Round Valley. We use it as a fun training site for longer trips in the High Sierra. Take the tram up from the valley for a truly thrilling experience.

Stayed one night 9/6/15: hiked up Devil's Slide via Humber Park. No water along trail. Stay north on PCT and take turn off where sign says "Strawberry Cienenga" Campsite is marked at left about 10 minutes past the Cienega. No picnic tables or fire rings, there is an out house. Clean and spacious with 3 campsites, not marked by posts. Great place to camp, with boulders to climb and a beautiful west facing view.
