The perfect solo escape! Treat yourself to a quiet getaway for one at this cozy, clean and comfortable cabin on our rural farm, between two rivers, on Sherman Island. Located in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area at the confluence of the San Joaquin River, Sacramento River, and the eastern terminus of San Francisco Bay, Sherman Island is known for its wildlife, sunrises, and sunsets, and its dark sky for stargazing opportunities. The property is surrounded by alfalfa fields, grazing cattle, sheep, and a wildland habitat populated with migratory and native birds, animals, and plants. The one-room cabin has a bed and clawfoot bathtub with hot water offering a peaceful escape on our 5-acre tree-lined farm. Here you can listen to birdsong instead of the sounds of the city. This is an ideal cabin for birdwatchers, writers, plein air painters, nature photographers, stargazing, windsurfers/kiteboarders, meditation, or some stress-free, peaceful reset time. The private cottage has a refrigerator, microwave, compostable dinnerware, drinking water, and a coffeemaker with coffee. It is air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter. Pets are welcome and free to enjoy being off-leash in the cabin's fenced yard. The hosts raise free-range chickens and bees on their farm and also conduct a nonprofit rescue and hospice for senior pets. The property is in the Pacific Migratory Flyway, surrounded by a 1000-acre State habitat/preserve populated by wildlife and seasonal birds. Downtown San Francisco and Sacramento are each about 50 miles away in opposite directions. Mount Diablo, viewed from the property, is about 15 miles south and offers hiking trails with stunning views and abundant wildlife. A hidden gem

Really enjoyed the quiet and nature hard to find traveling for work. It’s perfect for 1 person, hotel or cabin? I look forward to next time take a longer walk. Took a walk around the property at sunset, beautiful view, relaxing at the end of the day and then a bath! The best after driving 8hours. The birds, coyote and nature whats not to love.

I loved staying at the cabin. It’s so close to town, yet feels like you are far away in the countryside, with chickens and birds and trees all around, and the water is just a short walk away. Waking up to the sound of birdsongs and rustling leaves, without any noise from cars, people or airplanes, felt like a dream come true. It was also such a pleasure to meet the lovely hosts—and of course, sweet and friendly dog Willie! ❤️❤️❤️

Such a tranquil place for me and my dog to refresh and rejuvenate from burnout and do nothing. You can see and hear different birds from treetops to ground floor-owls, blackbirds, chickens and roosters. I have a harmless bird dog vizsla lab mix and he loved it so much. The chirping was very Snow White and relaxing to hear. We even got the chance to meet Winnie the pig who was so super sweet. We left the back gate and were able to walk and collect our thoughts as we bird watched and enjoyed the view of Mount Diablo in the distance. The perfect do nothing place! I wish we stayed an extra day longer. It was cozy for me and my dog. The hosts were lovely, inviting, kind, and friendly. My dog loved their dogs.

Secluded Nature Spot

Steve and Cici's place was ideal. I decided to take a last minute overnight trip to get away from work and decided to stay here because it was in a new part of the Bay Area I hadn't spent much time in and because of the great reviewa. I found the solitude I was looking for there but also felt safe. The property is on marshland and although I am not a border, I was amzed by the bird life. It is far beyond what you see at my wetlands experiences at Shoreline Park in Mountain View. I was blown away by the variety and number of birds visible from their property and in every direction. The cabin amenities included the most comfortable bed I've slept on, an oversized clawfoot bath and a firepit just outside the cabin door. I enjoyed spending time watching the fire and the dark night sky before sleeping well and riding home and work the next day. The night spent at the cabin was refreshing and renewed my spirit. I felt renewed. Thank you!

The perfect solo staycation spot!

I’m from the Bay Area and wanted to go on a quick staycation weekend during a hectic time and this was just the solo getaway I needed to reset and refresh! The cabin itself is so cute and well decorated and was really clean and well appointed. Many thoughtful touches are provided, from nature books and binoculars in the bookshelf to coffee and a coffee maker to epsom salt and a tray to set your book on for the claw foot tub. I really enjoyed wandering in the fields behind the property at sunset, and waking up to hens and baby chicks wandering through the front patio of the cabin every morning. I also got visits from Willie the dog and Zara the cat which was so fun! when I got there Cici gave me a tour of the property and was very helpful over text anytime I had a question while there! Both Steve and Cici were so kind and considerate the whole time. They were really respectful about letting me have my privacy at the cabin and respecting the amount I was wanting to engage with them or not while there. I love to meet new people and am a chatterbox when I get going, so during my time there I had some absolutely wonderful conversations with Steve and Cici! They are both delightful, and by the end of my two day stay it really did feel like I was staying with family friends. Steve and Cici have built a beautiful and peaceful space and have such a wonderful sense of community, I will absolutely be back again soon!

A rejuvenating solo experience!!

Everything about Birder’s Cabin was amazing. From the cozy cabin to the beautiful land. It felt like a home away from home. Ceci and Steve were excellent hosts. My dog and I enjoyed every second. Our mornings were filled with bird songs and the nights with owls and crickets. The fresh fruit and veggies from the vine were a special treat. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a rejuvenating solo experience!!

My new place to recharge

This cabin was a wonderful respite, and I fully intend to return soon. It’s quiet, private and feels a world away from Oakland/SF. Charmingly decorated, super comfy bed, nice fire pit — what more could you ask for? Steve and Ceci were wonderful hosts. Kind and genuine, they made me feel at home. Thank you.

A Piece of Heaven

A piece of heaven on Steve and Ceci's land. What was distinctive was that it had both a more intimate space with the farm animals and yard, but then beyond the gate, there was wide-open spaces for lots of peaceful walks and sunsets. Great way to have both choices. Steve and Ceci were excellent hosts--easy to talk to in person and fast on text to answer questions about the area, but also conscious of giving me my space. Steve even helped me with my car when i ran over something by the toll booth. Such lovely people and dog lovers to boot!

The perfect soloist getaway

This tiny cabin is exactly what the Dr ordered. The property is absolutely beautiful, the animals are such sweethearts, the owners Ceci and Steve are the most kind and interesting people you'll ever meet. This is a little slice of paradise and the perfect place for a solo getaway. I'll be coming back again and again. I love this place. Can't wait to come back and see all my new friends both human and animal❤️

Great to return to the Birder's Cabin, where Penny (?), a rescued turkey is in search of new relationship and seems to have chosen William the expert collie defending the property, much to William's gentle consternation. Gratitude to hosts Steve and Ceci for allowing me to reconnect to their land, the clawfoot bath tub, and, of course, the Black Phoebes who call the Birder Cabin posts home.

Ceci and Steve are wonderful host, very attentive and communicative. I loved the little cabin, full of nice details to enhance my stay. Their farm is astonishing as well as the island. I felt like I went back in time to enjoy the singing of the birds and listen to the awls at night, to enjoy the smell the souronding nature .

What you know you need

What a respite, only 1 hour from my home! CeCi and Steve are the best. They are so welcoming, interesting, and real. They’ve created a great vibe and oasis on their land. The one room cabin is perfect for one, with everything you need. The land is spectacular, with places to walk, and lots of trees, land animals, and birds. You can relax inside or on your patio to the sounds of owls, chickens and ducks. The place is also located close enough to both the San Joaquin and Sacramento rivers where you can hike and take wildlife photos. Can’t say enough about this place and its creators. Roxy and I will be back.

Perfect gem for solo traveler w/dog

I was desiring a little dog friendly getaway/staycation to help unwind and also get an opportunity to get a change of scenery. After tons of searching, Steve and Cece's place popped up on a search and although I didn't imagine going east on the delta, the pictures of animals, beautiful natural landscapes and the space for some peace and quiet really piqued my interest. From the first step, the communication was very prompt and welcoming. I booked a last minute getaway and they were so kind, asked about my dog and also provided helpful information that made the trip feel very supported. When I arrived with my dog, I was greeted by Steve. He gave me a tour of their property and also how to access the wetlands just behind their home. It is truly an oasis. I was not sure if I would be able to wind down and feel the sense of relaxation that I was seeking, but everything that is needed is provided for and in a very thoughtful way. I treated myself to a warm fire in the fire pit, a soak in the tub and a long walk around the area. It really felt like a true break and in moments I was reveling in the enjoyment of being in a place that is built with the hands of a loving partnership. Meeting Cece was also a delight, she made sure that I found breakfast at a great restaurant, checked to make sure I could bring my dog and also made some local recs that inspired exploration of the area that I would have otherwise missed. This is a really special place with very special people.

Steve & Ceci’s cabin made for a wonderful weekend. It was exactly what I needed, and absolutely perfect for my personal retreat. From the cozy bed, to the cute fridge/freezer and matching microwave, to the comfy big chair facing out the window with a bookshelf full of interesting reads within reach, to the front patio and ready to light fire pit, to the glorious cast iron, claw foot tub with bath salts that I could completely stretch out in, I couldn’t have asked for more. But yet there was! I was treated to beautiful bird song, laughing chickens, gobbling turkeys, migrating snow geese, expansive marshes with dirt trails on which to wander and run, fabulous sunsets, friendly dogs, and a sweet pig named Winifred. Steve & Ceci were generous, kind, and the ultimate hosts. Thank you both so much for sharing your space.

Loved our short stay in the birder’s cabin! Steve and Ceci were wonderful and helpful hosts, and it was a joy to be surrounded by all the birds, chickens, and dogs. This is a special place which has been worked on and treated with care. The cabin itself is super cozy, I loved the fire pit, small yard and of course the tub.

The hosts are very thoughtful. The cabin is clean, warm, charming with a small private yard, and a little fire pit. An owl sang every night. There were coyote howls. I saw sandhill cranes, snow geese, redwinged blackbirds, and small backyard species. Great place!

Peaceful oasis on the delta

I had a wonderful couple of days at Steve and Ceci’s farm. They’ve created a peaceful oasis and the cabin itself is perfect. There’s lots of space to roam around and the sound of the birds is so calming. I rode my bike around the perimeter of the island (15 miles) to take in the sights of the delta. I needed a break from my busy life to just be by myself for a bit. Steve and Ceci heard me loud and clear and gave me plenty of space. In fact, I never saw them after check in until the morning I departed. If you need a little getaway and love animals, then this is the place for you. I’ll definitely be back! Thanks again guys, Ross

Steve and Ceci are incredibly friendly and very welcoming. The instructions to reach the property was very clear, and their communication was excellent. Everything about the property is exactly as the listing describes. It is very peaceful and quaint. You’ll hear sounds of chickens and roosters. They have two cute dogs who live on the property. There are some nice pathways behind the back gate to take a stroll. At night there is a fire pit you can use to chill out and warm up at the same time. I definitely recommend this place to anyone seeking solitude.

Truly a special place

This place is amazing! Steve and Ceci have created an oasis, truly, an enchanted hideaway on an island at the convergence of rivers. It’s a beautiful place to slow down, and listen to the birds. And they have a lot to say! This place is teeming with life, and charm. Steve and Ceci are great to chat with and are full of generosity. Cannot wait to return, hopefully throughout the seasons.

Natural, Charming Cabin and Tub!

What an Enchanting space! A tree covered oasis surrounded by farm and water with wonderful hosts and a peaceful, laid back environment with very clear communication. The cabin was charming with a twin bed and large clawfoot tub that was perfect for soaking, fridge, microwave and outdoor fire ring. I liked the artsy/natural vibe. I will stay there again! Island Farm Life In The East Bay

My stay on Sherman Island was literally the perfect end to my NorCal roadtrip as I drove back south to LA. I'd never been to this part of the East Bay before, and it was a very cool experience driving over the Antioch Bridge and onto the island via a road that sits atop a levee. Upon arrival I was immediately greeted by Steve & Ceci and two of their adorable dogs. They quickly showed me where to park and gave me the rundown of the farm and the cabin in which I'd be staying. The farm itself is so charming, with chickens, turkeys, dogs, and a lone duck running all over the property at most times. There are several active beehives toward the back of the farm which I thought was very cool. Be careful if you're allergic! The guest cabin is a dream. Steve built it himself, and it features a large claw tooth bathtub that was perfect for a soak after my steep hike up & down Mt. Lassen the day before. You're also given a microwave and medium sized fridge/freezer. The microwave is the only means of cooking, so I bought a frozen dinner and salad at the closest Trader Joe's. They provide compostable dinnerware and cups. There is also a fire pit and wood provided on the patio, which I used for making s'mores. I had several lovely in-depth conversations with Steve during my stay about our shared love of hiking, road trips, and exploring CA. He and Ceci are as available as you need/want them to be, and I loved our conversations during my stay. 10/10 would recommend!!!
