Hipcamp Best Camping Runner Up 2023/2024! Spring is here! There's been rain, rain, rain, wind, wind, rain, rain, rain. But the skies are clear, everything thins is greening up and blossoming, & the birds and bees are doing their thing. Entry point to western Boone County in Northern Kentucky, neighbor to Cincinnati, Rabbit Hash, Indiana the Ohio River, this 27 acre property marks a geographical change from rolling farmland to steep, forested hillsides. Our end-of-the road, ridgetop property means privacy. Our isolated campsites are surrounded by woods full of turkey, deer, owls, and woodpeckers. Onsite there are wide, easy strolling paths, a growing number of single-track hiking trails, open fields, and forest. And if not booked, a historic log home to explore and do some porch sitting. A great place for solo campers, friends, and families, whether newbies or experienced. Drive-in sites make unloading/loading easy peasey. Standard amenities include privacy - we only book two sites at any time, which are far apart from each other and surrounded by woods. Also, an exceptional outhouse, tables, fire rings, lanterns, Welcome kit (paper, fatwood, lighter, candle). And onsite firewood purchased during booking or while onsite. Site 1 - Open Sky accommodates solo or the group, tents to small campers. It comes with extra amenities: hammock, trampoline, (badminton & cornhole by request). It's also closest to the cabin, strolling trails, firewood shed, outhouse. Site 2 - Gobbler's Knob is a more cozy space - a small rise surrounded by forest. A short walk from the outhouse and firewood shed. It can accommodate pop-ups, small pull-behinds, tents, hammocks. Vehicles can park on site or park at site entrance, just 50'. Site 3 - Henry's Holler. By request only. For 4WD overlanders only. Read site description in full before requesting. Boating, kayaking, biking, hiking, or lazing about in tiny riverfront towns minutes away, The curvy, scenic roads lead quickly out of the paved civilization of Union, Kentucky to us and onto the Rabbit Hash General Store, the Ohio River,, historic Dinsmore Homestead and State Nature Preserve, Middle Creek Park, and Big Bone State Park "Home to Modern Vertebrate Paleontology" or the Creation Museum. Rustic Cabin Shelter
100% (12)
Cabin · Sleeps 8
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky - Historic Rustic Shelter Surrounded by forest on an end-of-the-road ridgetop, privacy is yours. Thirty-minutes from Cincinnati/10 minutes from Rabbit Hash. This booking includes the log house and the Open Sky campsite.  The log house is a Boone County Historical Registered structure. It is "unchinked" meaning the gaps between the logs have not been filled. Also, windows and door openings are just that - open. So, while you are sheltered from the elements, it allows for light, air, and ambient temperatures to flow through. And, while it's swept and kept clean, there may be a friendly critter or two in the rafters.   The first floor is one large open room with a soapstone wood burning stove providing radiant heat. A wood, serving table is present. The second floor is open and has a table for seating with log chairs. Wrap-around porch with wooden rocking chairs, benches, and tables. A picnic table and fire ring is outside.  This log house is an original structure from the 1840's, a time when building codes were non-existent. This means that care must be taken: stairs have no hand rails, second floor windows are at ankle height with no barriers.  Some fundamental rules: - no children under the age of 13 for overnights - never any unsupervised children under the age of 18 - no smoking in or on the porch - no access to the roof Other guidance:  - If wood stove is used, we will provide instructions and be onsite on arrival to review use with you. Wood is extra (see Extras) and can be preordered to be at the cabin when you arrive.   - Cooking on your propane stove is allowed outside or inside on  tables. - This site is drive-in but parking space at the cabin is limited to two vehicles. Additional vehicles can be parked in the Open Sky area (250' away). When wet, care must also be taken to avoid damaging groundcover when driving in and out.  - For overnight stays in the cabin, bed rolls on the floor, cots, or setting up small tents inside are acceptable.  - The Open Sky campsite (see description under our Camping sites) is a short-walk away (approximately 250'). Open Sky is a wide, open space with plenty of room for tents or small trailers.  - The outhouse is along the entrance drive just before you reach the Open Sky site.  - Basic booking is for 8 adults. ------ Grass surrounds the cabin. Beyond that is a forest that, in the fall and winter allows for expansive views of the surrounding hilltops; in the spring and summer, its lush and green. Wide walking paths circle the ridge top for easy strolls that lead right back to the cabin. Hiking "light" can be found on the Great Googly Moogly Trail that dips into the forest, a mostly easy trail except for a very short, steep section at the entrance. ____ Close to: Rabbit Hash General Store, Big Bone Lick State Park, Dinsmore Homestead, Middle Creek Park; hiking, kayaking, disc golf, pump track/trails riding, historic sites, state and county parks, Ohio River and more.  Contact us for more information.

I loved tent camping on Teri’s land. It was a big field surrounded by trees that gave us privacy from other campers. The trails and trampoline occupied the kids for most of the day. We heard coyotes and an owl which made it even more fun. I would highly recommend staying here.

I really like this campsite! It was well-maintained, and the kids ran around barefoot. The trampoline, hammocks, and trail course were great too. I think it would be even better if there was a water tap. We’ll definitely come again!

Beautiful spot. Secluded but easy to get to. Really felt isolated! Nice fire pit and picnic table there. I’ve already recommended it to people!

Beautiful and Peaceful
What a wonderful experience, Teri and Mike have a beautiful area tucked away in Northern KY. Plenty of space between campsites! We stayed at Henry’s Holler. It’s a 4x4 only site. There is a steep hill that you may need 4wd to get up. That being said there are a few more spots to reserve that this is not a requirement. It is so peaceful here. You would never know you were so close to busy areas. Rabbit hash is right down the road as well as Lawerenceburg Indiana. Just a short distance is also Big Bone Lick State Park. If you just want to get away this is the spot for you. The log cabin on site is so cool. Plenty of walking can be done as you meander along some easy trails. The “outhouse” on site is cute. It is the only bathroom on property. Well stocked and not your typical “outhouse”. It’s adorable. You will have to see it to appreciate it. This is a great alternative to camping at a campground. Note: there is no electric or water. Also pack out what you pack in. You will be greeted with a “welcome” kit that includes a citronella candle, some paper and fire starting accessories. Firewood is available for purchase by the barn. I will definitely be back! Teri communicates very well to make sure all is going well. Don’t be afraid to explore this great slice of heaven.

1 Open Sky
My daughter, dog, and I all enjoyed our stay at Open Sky. There is plenty to do, the host had bad mitten set up, left cornhole boards for us to use, there is a trampoline, a hammock, short hiking trails from the site, and the old cabin nearby to visit. The outhouse is one of the best outhouse experiences I've ever had :) We will be back for sure!

We had to e greatest time at Open Sky! I took my daughter and her three friends to celebrate her 12th birthday. Teri and Mike were so wonderful and communicative. They set up badminton and cornhole and even left her a special birthday gift! The land is beautiful and there was never a dull moment. Thank you so much to the hosts!!
