California, Ohio is a community on the Ohio River about a twenty minute drive upstream from Cincinnati. Actually the eastern-most neighborhood of Cincinnati, it has it's own small town or quaint village atmosphere. Safe, flat, scenic and walkable, California boasts several dining experiences, one a brewery, and quite a variety of recreational experiences. Riverbend, a music venue in season, is a mile away, possible walking distance, as is Belterra, a race track and casino. The bike trail is a few blocks away and connects to all the other area bike trails including the Loveland Bike Trail along the Wild and Scenic Little Miami River. A local nature preserve, California Woods, offers hiking and nature programs, and there is even the California Golf Course. If watching baseball leagues play games is your cup of tea, there is a large sports complex with ball fields in California. A town park with trees and large, grassy open spaces and small playground is a few blocks away. Bring your game of horse shoes, corn hole, a frisbee to throw, your skateboard, golf cart, or some bikes just to cruise around and take in the scenery. Nearby, and right the Wild and Scenic Little Miami River is Armleder Park, also with walking and biking trails which also connect to the 5 mile loop around Lunken Airport. I have two properties which offer two different kinds of camping, which I have itemized separately in the Hipcamp listings. RV Campers will park on the upper level at the Panama Street address , and have one set of amenities. It is a short walk lead down to the Ohio River where there is a small patio with table and chairs overlooking the river. Tent campers set up their tents right beside the river and have a different set of amenities, as itemized on this website. It's an unusual set up, as perhaps Hipcamper spots often are. It is interesting and relaxing to watch the barges and pleasure boats go by. On one hand I feel like I am in the middle of nowhere when I am on these (small, very not fancy) properties by the river. On the other, there are planes, trains, barges and pleasure boats, and motorcycles passing by at times. The River can be mesmerizing and serene, shimmering in the western sun, or busy with weekend pleasure boats and barge traffic. Take a walk around town, then sit by the river and watch the boats go by. Relax, set up your grill and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Ohio River. Perfect for river rats. Downtown Cincinnati is 15 or 20 minutes away with no traffic, and there are two or three ways to get there. There is a lot to do in Cincinnati. My place in California is just a few minutes from the I 275 exit.

The Viking longhall has been 9 years in the making by a group of semi serious Viking enthusiasts: the result is a 60 foot long building that has 18, 8,x4' sleeping berths. Set apart from the main open area it also boasts 2 meeting rooms and a kitchen. The campsite is a very peaceful place. Some go as far as to say a healing place! We are proud of what we have achieved and now want people to come out and enjoy it also. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience, but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities. The area is awash in beauty and history from the ancient mound culture to the amish culture. The area has many hiking trails some of which are part of the buckeye trail and range in length from an easy 1 mile loop to rugged hikes of many miles. Come out and share the land that we have loved for the last 30 years PLEASE NOTE….WE WILL NO LONGER BE SUPPLYING BEDDING OR TOWELS.

Property is 15 minutes south of Cincinati, close to the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG), close to restaurants and attractions such as Kings Island (approximately 1 hour), Creation Museum (approximately 25 minutes) and The Ark (approximately 25 minutes). Also nearby are several state parks and local favorites such as Big Bone State park and Rabbit Hash. We have 2 dogs who walk with us on leash and recently added chickens! This is a small working hobby farm, near the site of a historic park-George Rogers. The 1/2 mile trails are flat and clean but may have limbs or tree nuts on the ground. We have chickens which provide fresh eggs as available if you are interested for a small fee, and split firewood that is very reasonably priced, purchase at arrival. We will have bonfires as weather permits, also you can rent a large private camp fire site just for the evening. Sites are wheel chair accessible, but the trails are earth, not paved. All sites are walk-in, not able to park cars next to the camp site, I will help with out with my UTV if you have lots of gear. Learn more about this land: Separated sites (you will not see your neighbor campers) for tents/hammocks, each has a fire ring, some sites have picnic tables most have spool tables. Sites can accommodate 1-2 tents, and/or 2-4 hammocks. Have a rally site where larger groups can tent camp. Have private dirt hiking trails on site with many nearby county and state parks for more adventure. Canoe and kayak livery 1 mile away. Young’s dairy, Yellow Springs, 1800’s Carriage Hill a working Farm, Air Force Museum, Brandeberry Winery, and the Melody family restaurant are near. Have a port a potty on sight, parking is near the entrance to woods. Plenty of wood on the ground near sites, or can provide split wood for a small fee. More than 4 persons per site will be an additional fee $3 per person. Parking is within 200 feet from camp site. But adventurous people are able to hike up an 800 foot Hill and camp up on a ridge with a beautiful view of the area. Hiking, kayaking, biking, birding, fishing, hunting, swimming, and more are available at several state parks and historical sites like within 10-30 minutes of the farm. Amish country is likewise near at hand with several bakeries, markets, furniture shops, and greenhouses. Our primitive sites are spaced for privacy, with a gravel parking area near the cottage and additional field parking is available near the road on the opposite site of the main house. While most sites are walk-in only, the upper field sites may be able to be parked near and the Lower Meadow, Boneyard, and Oak Grove may be able to be driven to, as weather and site conditions permit.

This property is tucked away and you wouldn’t even know you’re close to town once you’re on site. Valley Vineyards is right down the road to enjoy a bottle of wine and cook your own steak dinner nights. Take a trip to visit Fort Ancient with a day hike. A Native American earthworks complex, the largest hilltop enclosure in the world and soon to be a World Heritage site! Enjoy some canoeing on the Little Miami River a State and National scenic river which is within walking distance. We have kayaks on location for the kids to play in the creek and creeks to hike with numerous fossils deposits. Southwestern Ohio is famous for its Ordovician fossil deposits. Kings Island is approximately 20 minute drive and the Ohio renaissance Festival is near. Caesars creek state park in Cowan lake state park is within a short drive. Smallmouth Bass fishing is awesome on Todd’s Fork and we have plenty of area to Wade fish.

Learn more about this land: The campsite is in an open meadow on our 5 acre property, next to the ruins of what was one of the oldest barns in the county (there are still some beautiful stone walls left). You will be surrounded by trees and the spot is completely private. Directly across the road from our property (a 5 minute walk) is the Little Miami Scenic Trail, the third longest paved trail in the US (amazing for biking). The unique village of Yellow Springs is only a 5 minute drive away with a great local grocery store and several cafes. Included in this campsite is access to our 1830s spring house if you want a refreshing dip! PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE BOOKING.Notes: 1) For camper vans: we do allow camper vans (not RVs or trailers) but you will need to park at the entrance of the meadow where there is gravel. Recently a camper got stuck in the meadow due to rain/mud (which is why we do not allow RVs or trailers). 2) We are still building a compost toilet so the option on the property now is to dig a cat hole at least 6" deep. There is an open public toilet in Yellow Springs and several businesses with open bathrooms. 3) The spring house is not secluded, you can see it from our driveway. We regularly let it drain and it fills itself up. Water level depends on rainfall. It is cold but perfect for hot days! 4) The campsite is right off of Route 68. You cannot see cars from the site but you can hear them. The amount of noise from cars is lower at night. 5) The meadow is ideal for tent camping, though it is NOT a built campsite so it is not perfectly level throughout.

Experience the best of luxury and relaxation in this secluded canvas tent at Bunker Farm, nestled within the picturesque creekside of the 7-acre farm in Ryland Heights, Kentucky. Step inside this furnished bell tent to discover a spacious retreat complete with a queen size bed. Marshall Road runs through the bottom third of our property making a secluded area along Decoursey Creek that feels like a you're way out in the woods, yet not far from the city. Our canvas tent is situated under large mature trees, secluded from the road. An open field located on the property along Decoursey Creek, which brings in a variety of flora and fauna. This 12 foot canvas bell tent is sure to take relaxation to the next level. Within this tent, a queen size memory foam mattress, lightweight sheets, extra blankets and paired with two firm and two soft pillows are provided. The door way is a double zip closure. For cooking, a gas burner and a small gas grill, a cast iron skillet along with acacia wood plates and bowls, utensils, and knives are available for use. For fresh coffee in the morning, an enamel Percolator and mugs are provided. An extra large cooler (100 gal) for your cold items is available outside of the tent. Please bring your own camping equipment if needing any items outside of what's listed. For your bathroom needs, we are currently building a bath house. It does have a fully functional toilet and sink using water catchment. The shower is not complete, will be in the coming weeks. Please bring water for drinking and brushing teeth. Toilet paper, hand soap and sanitizer will be provided. In addition to firelight from the campfire, the tent is lit by battery-powered a LED lantern, battery operated candles, decor and a pair of solar lamps. No electric is available at this site currently. One battery operated fan is provided. First load of wood is included with your reservation. $7 per bundle if you need more. We use the honor system for this, please send any extra money through HipCamp if more wood is used. We provide fire starting materials and a lighter, fire extinguisher is located in the trunk within the tent. Parking area is close to the tent, yet not right next to it. A large rolling cart is provided to help with getting belongings to and from the parking area. Please only park and drive on graveled area. Creekside Hideaway is nestled on Decoursey Creek, you will have access to the bottom area of the property along the creek. Rock steps have been put in along the creek for easy access down to the creek. This property is partially wooded, and has an open field as well. We are always pet friendly, but you must maintain control of your pets and you are responsible for them at all times. Decoursey creek is a natural waterway. It is frequented by wildlife and can be contaminated by runoff from local farms. DO NOT drink the water. Make sure to wash your hands after they have been in the water before eating and drinking. Pink tape on trees are to mark the approximate property lines, please remain within the property. The creek is part of the property but please do not go to the far bank, as the creek marks our property line.

Nestled along forested highlands, Stonelick State Park's 1,058-acres of serene land is the perfect spot for that librarian conference you always wanted to attend but never planned. Hike the fairly short trails around the park or even rent a bicycle if you're ready to switch gears. Four different species of fish are ready for the taking with an Ohio state fishing license, and boats with electric motors are welcome on the lake once you're ready to explore all corners of the 200-acre body of water. If you're hoping for some quality animal sighting, consider driving over to the nearby Crooked Run Nature Preserve, where glances of blue herons and bald eagles are what classic stories are made of.
