A Notch Above-RV Riverside Campsite

Overall it was not bad driveway could use some work they are very steep for some campers that could be a problem. If you're looking to fish an not have to pack your gear but a few feet this is it but if you're looking for peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of life in general you're going to want to look some place else because you are right off the highway there is not much night traffic but daytime traffic can get pretty busy.

Such a beautiful spot on the river!! Thank you for sharing this with everyone. We had so much fun on our first camping trip in our RV camper van. We would love to come back again sometime.

Not a safe site

We booked the site because it was advertised as having a bathroom and WiFi. It had neither. There is also no shared dock or stairs to the river. Randy was nice, but I don’t think he wrote the ad himself. Would not recommend due to dangerous road proximity and lots of traffic noise. What looks like a private road on Google Maps is actually a highly traveled highway. Also saw a drug deal go on across the street.

Watching the Barges.

Not a good option for tents

Beautiful campsite close to the river and easy to find. The only negative things that I have to say is that the camp sites were too close to the road and there was not a bathroom facility on site. Campsites would be more peaceful with a camper, but we were traveling with a roof top tent and heard every car that went by and felt unsafe due to there being no guardrail between us and the road. Randy, the host, was quickly responsive and was able to provide a refund for our second night, since we were not willing to stay because of the lack of restful sleep.

Unique Ohio river experience!

Randy’s property was unique & completely relaxing. We recommend this experience on the Ohio River. The sunrise was just amazing. The drive in & leaving back to main highways was a great way to see this part of the country. We thought all 3 sites were equal in the quality of the experience. We stayed overnight & saw many barges go by. Just amazing!!

Nice Riverside View w/full hookups!

We genuinely enjoyed our stay here during the Memorial holiday weekend. Very chill. Great river views. Full hookups. Nice flat concrete pad. A little noise from the passing traffic but not disturbing. Will definitely book again.

Beautiful river view camping

This was our second time staying at this beautiful site on the river. Randy is a great host and easy to contact. The site is well maintained and hasnice, level concrete pads. The fishing was good and the bird sightings were amazing. We saw Bald Eagles every day were there. The entrance and exit are a bit steep, but we have managed them both times. Overall, this is one of our favorite places to camp. We look forward to returning soon.

What a wonderful spot! We were the only ones camping and it was entirely peaceful. Seeing the barges float by was such a cool thing to see - the kids loved it! Having a cement pad was super helpful and a nice amenity. We went to a town nearby (Rising Sun) for a picnic and a walk along the river. I would not consider this spot if you do not have 4WD.

A nice place right on the Ohio river. The entrance is a little steep, but manageable. I backed in from the north side. We slept here one night while making our way back up to Michigan. It worked perfect for that, we were the only ones here. It is full hookups, however Randy adviced not to dump here as it's not a septic, it's a tank that needs to be emptied out. We came with an empty camper and just dumped what we used that night. Just a heads up for people 👍🏻

This was such a peaceful spot — I had the whole place to myself! Communication with the host was quick and easy, and they were very helpful. I’d definitely recommend arriving during the day, as the driveway can be a little tricky to spot at night and it’s fairly steep. Once settled in, we had a wonderful time by the river and enjoyed the gorgeous fall colors. Highly recommend!

Georgous place! Perfect place to relax and unwind. We stayed here in October and enjoyed the fall colors on the Ohio River which were beautiful. The sites are perfect for boat and barge watching. Randy is super. He was attentive to all our needs. This is my new favorite campground. We will be back.

Camping with friends

We had an amazing time at A Notch Above. It was us and our friends at the site next to us. It was perfect for buddy camping. We had sites 2 and 3. Our campers faced the river and ir was a beautiful view. We were fortunate enough to see multiple bald eagles and many other birds. Watching the different barges and boats mo e up and down the river was another nice thing about camping at Randy's place. Randy is a very nice, helpful host. I would definitely recommend A Notch Above if you are looking for scenic views and relaxation.

The site was very level and spacious. The firepit was located right by the river. We sat there every night with a fire and watched the barges go by. My only negative was the septic hookup. I have never delt with one that was sideways out of the ground. It backed up and leaked gray tank water all over so I was not able to completely empty my tank.

What a great location and beautiful site. The entrance looks tricky but worked out perfectly. We enjoyed the river, bardges, bald eagles and looking at the stars. Some things to note the road behind you is close and there is some road noise but it didn't bother us. There is a porta potty on site in the middle but it was clean and did not smell. Randy was available when needed and even checked in to make sure we arrived ok. Will return
