One of the valleys last original stone homes dating back to 1845. We have been restoring the buildings made from the stone. The main house which is not yet finished has beautiful etched glass windows of the cattle drives.
James Hinds the homesteader and original owner of the ranch created the ware and hinds ditch which supplies our abundant Valley water. He was a prominent attorney and got our water rights given to us forever from President Harrison.
Currently, the ranch is running on an open range policy. Livestock is not fenced in, so please be cautious and understand that you are camping at your own risk. Please do not feed the animals (even though they are friendly they can get rambunctious) and keep all dogs on leash at ALL times.
It includes water that extends to the middle of the Colorado River and the one mile of our shoreline. Everyday that we live here we give thanks for his wisdom and foresight. The Ute Lodge was homesteaded in the 1930’s by Joe Fox who after leaving the military came west to settle in the White River valley.
Joe was known for his friendliness, hospitality and wild stories.
Today you might find much of the same. From Joe’s day to today it is a place where families come together to get away.
The Ute Lodge is now owned by Karl and Mona Maser who celebrated 20 years of ownership summer of 2019!
All summer our cabins are filled with guests from all over the US as well as international travelers. One of our favorite things about the summer is our weekly potlucks where we all share an outdoor meal. All of our visitors have a standing invitation to join us around the community campfire at night.

The tiny house was lovely! Very cute decor and a stunning view! I agree with previous recommendations of bringing fans and eye masks as it gets direct sun light all day. It cools off nicely at night but is quite warm during the day time. The drive up is definitely winding and some dirt road up closer to the homestead so keep this in mind depending on your vehicle and comfort driving in those conditions. It’s totally worth the drive up!

Weekend Trip to Colorado River Camp Has It All!
We absolutely would recommend this location especially for anyone with kids! Joyce was very communicative and welcoming during our stay. The 4 camp sites are very well kept and absolutely breathtaking! Plenty of trees, right next to the Colorado River and my kids loved being able to pet the farm animals. We will most definitely be returning and have found our new favorite camp spot :)

We were charmed with Lily's Tiny House. It is clever and incredibly well built. All amenities are present in a compact and efficient space AND you do not feel cramped. The expansive mountain views from the deck are amazing and Ginger was prompt, friendly, and accurate. We ordered fresh organic eggs from her (yum!) and were pleased to be able to meet her.
One thought is that we wish that there were not so many fees and taxes, which made it a bit of a budget stretch for us....

If you’re seeking out a ranch stay — look no further! This place is absolutely beautiful. Quiet and calm, right along the river and red rock mountains. Great shading by the trees, great people, and my first true relaxation after one week of traveling.

We had such a wonderful week at Riverside Rest! It’s a beautiful location right on the Colorado River. We had plenty of space, and services all worked as expected. Our little girls LOVED all of the animals they got to meet - it really was a highlight of their trip and a bonus for us. If/when we come back to the area, I’ll be checking for availability with Nancy first!

2 nights at Basalt Mountain Homestead
Absolutely stunning views! Well equipped and away from the hustle & bustle while being close to so much. Would recommend bringing a fan and eye mask during the summer. The sun bakes the place in afternoon and the early morning sun is a lot if you’re trying to sleep past 7.

Ginger’s place was excellent and even better than the pictures showed! The views were incredible and the inside was bigger than expected. I loved the outdoor shower. The bathroom situation is unique- I’ve never used a dry toilet before. The stars at night were super bright. Definitely recommend screenshotting her instructions on how to get to the property once you lose cell service but the instructions are very accurate. I purchased one of the hand made cards to send home which was a nice touch. The location is really close to Basalt but you feel like you’re the only one on the mountain. We used it as home base to go between Aspen and Carbondale. Would love to visit again.

My family adored the Aspen Yurt. We had to change camping plans last minute due to an injury, and once we found this location, we were sold. Our vacation was not canceled, just happily adapted. Aspen Yurt was everything we wanted, and it was so beautiful. Roomy enough for a grown family of 4. The outdoor freshwater tub was a hit, along with the beautiful outdoor shower. Great memories were made.
