Bears Den Campground

5 sites · Tents66 acres · Bluemont, Loudoun
Set up your tent in our remote but easily accessible campground, 100 yards off the Appalachian Trail. Roast marshmallows by the fire pit and watch the sunset over the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley.  Individual site capacities are varied! Please take note of this when selecting your site upon checkout.  Site #1 is on a hilly slope and accommodates 4 campersSite #2 accommodates 8-10 campersSite #3 accommodates 4 campersSite #4 accommodates 6-8 campersSite #5 accommodates 6-8 campers   About the property Located on a 66-acre plot just five miles from the Shenandoah River, our property offers amazing access to hiking and the outdoors while also keeping civilization within striking distance. Bear Chase Brewery is just a half mile walk across the street, and we are 15 miles from Purcellville.  The land and lodge used to be the summer home of a trained opera singer, whose singing could be heard throughout the mountain.  Your Host lives onsite in the stone house that also acts as a hostel for hikers on the Appalachian Trail. Built in the 1930's all from locally sourced hand-hammered stone, the house is open every night from 5pm - 9pm.  Note that we offer several campsites relatively close to each other, so you should expect to see and hear other campers on the property during your stay.  About the listing Pitch your tent in a forested area just a short walk up from where you’ll park your car. Enjoy unbeatable proximity to hiking and panoramic views while still having basic amenities that ensure a comfortable stay.  You’ll have access to a composting pit toilet, and can access potable water from the tap in the lodge. That’s also where you can access hot showers. As noted above, we host Appalachian Trail thru hikers on the property, so you may see them hanging around or sleeping in the bunkhouse near the shared facilities.  For meals, we have picnic tables, and you are encouraged to cook over the fire pits that accompany each site. Please practice Leave No Trace practices during your stay, as the property has raccoons and other critters who will be drawn to any food scraps that are left behind.   Pets are allowed! Please keep them on leash during your stay.   Trash can be disposed of in the bins onsite.  Additional details to note Expect to see and hear other campers on the property during your stay. No kitchen equipment is provided, so campers must bring their own supplies if they'd like to cook. We do not offer WiFi, but there is good cell reception for all common carriers.

Sacred Roots Herbal Sanctuary

7 sites · Lodging, Tents32 acres · Shepherdstown, Jefferson
Looking for a personal retreat or get away ? Escape to our beautiful, RUSTIC 32 acre wild homestead / farm. What do we mean by "rustic" ? The camping experience we offer is about unplugging from the modern world , getting back to basics, and re-connecting with the land. Campsites are nestled in the woods. So although your vehicle will be parked within 50 ft or so from site, you cannot pull directly up to the site because of the trees. Feel free to wander through the herb gardens, eat your meals in the garden pavilion (we have picnic tables there and hammocks), get your Zen on in the meditation hut , and stroll through the woodland medicine path where we grow endangered and at at risk plant plants. (Please note that the medicine path goes to seed by the Fall and is usually munched down by the deer by then, but is still a nice short stroll in the woods). We love dogs...but please leave them at home.

Peace in the Valley

2 sites · Lodging, Tents40 acres · Berkeley Springs, Morgan
Welcome to this special space. Down, down, down to the end of a winding gravel road you will find quiet and beauty on forty wooded acres where a stream feeds the wildlife and your soul. Your place of retreat seems to be a world away, but is just ten minutes off the interstate, 90 minutes from both Washington, DC, and Baltimore. As you descend into this magical place, the first thing you may notice is the frenetic din of our busy world melting away, replaced with the sounds of nature -- birds, trees, water, crickets -- all singing to remind you of timeless truths you've misplaced in your travels. We've been preparing for your visit. Come and rest a while. Explore the woods. Create your art. You will find inspiration in the rustling leaves, but you won't find a neighbor anywhere in your line of sight. We are mapping out trails and special spots around the property for meditation and contemplation. When you're ready to explore beyond the property, a ten-minute drive will take you to historic Berkeley Springs, WV -- home of America's First Spa, where George Washington and many generations since have come to take in the healing properties of the mineral-infused springs. Here you will find locally curated art, a farmer's market, vegan and not-so-vegan dining options, funky shops, and lots of history. Six minutes north, you'll find Hancock, MD and the C&O rail trail that can take you all along the Potomac River for miles of gentle riding or trekking. Your reservation includes the exclusive use of a beautiful full restroom, so you can enjoy a hot shower after a full day of exploring. Note that we only book one party at a time on our property -- whether they use the Creekside Diner campsite, the yurt, or both -- your party will be the only ones using the restroom, which is attached to our garage behind our cabin. It is about a 1 or 2-minute walk from the campsite and just a short path down from the yurt. More about that yurt. It's a 20-foot diameter yurt (314 square feet) on an elevated deck overlooking the valley and creek that offers more of a glamping experience -- complete with kitchenette, queen-sized futon bed, and an HVAC mini-split to keep you toasty or cool during your stay. Note that, if you want to use both the yurt and the Creekside Diner site for a party of up to six, you can reserve the yurt and add the use of the campsite as an additional purchase to that rental. In other words, only reserve one or the other. We have shaped this space to be a place of healing and respite. Alison is a psychotherapist; Ross writes and performs music on the side. Our hope for this land is that it becomes a regular stop on your journey -- a place for rest and retreat with a healthy dose of nature. We offer special services for those who feel the need. Ross is a seasoned songwriter and can offer a songwriting workshop to help you refine your work or find your voice. Others are coming soon. We have invested time and resources to make this very special place available to you. Come share it with us!

HUNTER'S PARK BY DC

11 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents27 acres · Damascus, Montgomery
The campground is situated in the wooded area on the back of 27 acre horse farm which is known as "The Stables at Mezza Luna." Every year in the spring there are 4-6 Thoroughbred foals born that eventually will become racehorses. They live on the farm until they are 2 years old and then they go off to begin their racing career. In the daytime, when you are not sitting around your campfire, you can walk the fence lines and visit with the Mares and Foals or just watch them frolic in the fields. Hint! "They love peppermints, carrots and apples." Who knows, you might get to meet a future Kentucky Derby winner. There are also chickens, ducks and peacocks that are very anxious to receive your love and affection with any type of treat as well. Kids can even go in the chicken coop and pick out their very own egg they can cook for their breakfast. For the energetic campers and kids there are also lots of trails that you can walk or hike on and there is a small stream the kids can play in. There also is a playground with swings, monkey bars, seesaw and trampoline. Don't miss out out on this hidden gem just minutes from our nation's capital.
