Reservations at the Werry's Secret Resort include the entire camping area and are not shared with other guests. If you plan to RV camp, van camp, pull behind, etc., the picnic shelter house location will work best for you. If you plan to tent camp, the riverside is also an option for you. To access the riverside, there is a short walk through the woods. There are no hook-ups and the camping on the river side is primitive.

Located in the rolling Appalachian hills of Southeast Ohio. This farm has been in our family since 1869 when our relatives settled here from Germany. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,100 feet.
Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property. Such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are two miles from the Little Muskingum River. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Ride your motorcycle up Rt. 26 a great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails.
From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activity sites. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location.
We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. Where you can find restaurants, bars, and many other fun activities.

Dogwood Cabin is an off grid experience. Think glamping. It is set on 25 acres in the rolling hills of Morgan County in southeast OH, close to the village of Chesterhill. Hidden in the woods, back a gravel driveway. No electricity, no running water, no central heat, no WiFi, no cell service. Truly getting out into nature without distractions.
Hang your hammock between trees. Build a fire to grill your meals. Relax on the porch swing or by the fire. Hike the property, play in the creek.
Dogwood Cabin has a small kitchenette. There is a propane camping stove and some pots, pans, coffee maker, and dishes. We have a grill to place over the fire pit.
There are 4 mattresses in the loft. No linens. Bring sleeping bags, etc.
No running water. Bring water in jugs for drinking, cleaning up and dousing the fire.
Buddy propane heater to take off the chill inside, but not make it cozy.
Bring a flashlight or lantern. We have several battery lanterns. On low, the lights should work for 6-8 hours. On high, much less.
An outhouse (think wooden porta potty) is not far from the cabin.
No cell service or internet. Chesterhill is about 2 miles and has service in numerous places on Main St. We have gone up the hill at the church in Todds - right on Goshen Run, left on St Rt 377, about 2 miles.
Firewood is not provided. You can bring your own or scrounge the woods for dead branches and twigs. Please douse the fire before leaving. Rake leaves away from the fire pit. Dry materials could easily start a forest fire.
8 plastic deck chairs are stacked on the porch. Please put them back and secure the cover before you leave.
We encourage you to get groceries on your way to the cabin, since it is 30 minutes to a decent grocery store. Chesterhill has Ron's Convenience and Restaurant where you can buy subs, pizza, burgers, fries, and groceries. Triple Nickel Diner in Chesterhill is another neat place to eat.
No motorcycles on the driveway.
You may enjoy hiking the 25 acres on the property. Nature is awesome, but check yourselves and your pet for ticks.

You’re also welcome to camp almost anywhere on the property to find your perfect spot.
A lightly traveled public dirt road runs through our property. While an SUV or 4x4 is recommended, regular cars can access the site, and we have parking for standard vehicles. Please check with us in advance if you plan to bring an RV. Our farm is a great destination for overland camping—perfect for getting your truck a little dirty!
We are cautiously dog-friendly. Our farm dogs patrol the property to protect our free-roaming animals, so visiting dogs must be well-behaved, leashed, and comfortable around other animals. If you're unsure about compatibility, please reach out for advice. Our dogs will come to your camp to "check you out". If your dog has a problem with other dogs that are new to them you must let us know so we can control our dogs. We have had people come with problem dogs and not tell us so, we are asking for a $1 extra that we now require as a pet fee.
While you're here, visit our local businesses in Gassaway. At Bigfoot Braxxie's Bikes, you can rent a bike and explore the 40-mile Elk River Rail Trail. Trailhead Farm Meats & More offers our farm-raised, all-natural meats and other local products.

I have lived on this property since 1989. It is approximately 40 acres, defined by McDougal Rd. and Sunday Creek. It is the beginning of a large ridge line, mostly wooded and hilly, with a 2-acre piece that has been lovingly prepared as a campsite for hipsters. End goal is to certify as a commercial campground with 30 sites. Property is heavily populated with birds, owls, turkey, deer and turtles. Some hiking/biking trails.

Owen is a wonderful host and the property itself is stunning! I will say GET THE TAXI SERVICE the campsites are a bit of a hike but so so worth it. The campground kitties Elvira and Jynx are absolute sweeties and the pond was perfect for a dip after the summer heat.

The hosts were extemely gracious, responsive and accomodating. We have quite a bit of equipment and they were super helpful with getting all of it to and from the site. The property is beautiful. The site is private and spacious. We have a very large tent and we had plenty of room to stretch out. The camp was quiet and relaxing. We highly reccomend the geocache map and trails. They take you all over the peoperty. The trails are well maintained and marked. We loved walking the property and seeing the sheep and wildlife. Of course, the highlight was meeting the dogs. Especially watching Scout chase butterflies.

Weekend Trip to Appalachian Retreat Camp
We loved tent camping at Appalachian Retreat! Our site was huge and very secluded! The entire property is extremely quiet and far enough away from everything to feel completely private, with the exception of the occasional vehicle passing along the gravel road.
The site itself was very well maintained. The composting toilet and shed were very clean! Bugs were not too much of an issue until nighttime, but we did not encounter any issues with wasps/yellow jackets/hornets. There were definitely some pretty large bugs and spiders, but they were overall harmless.
Our favorite part was hearing the coyotes passing through each night! We also got to hear an eastern screech owl on our second night, which was so cool! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our camping trip!

My wife and I returned from July 22–26, 2026, and once again had an absolutely wonderful experience. The pond-side A-frame cabin and surrounding campsite are truly special. The property is peaceful, beautifully maintained, and surrounded by nature. The cabin offers the perfect balance of comfortable camping and an authentic outdoor experience, especially with the screened opening that lets you enjoy the fresh air and nighttime sounds without dealing with the bugs.
Jenny and Logan are exceptional hosts. They are friendly, welcoming, attentive, and genuinely want their guests to have a great stay. Their hospitality is one of the biggest reasons this place stands out. They are always available when needed and make you feel completely welcome from the moment you arrive.
The entire site is clean, organized, and thoughtfully arranged. It is obvious how much work and care they have put into the cabin, campsite, farm, and surrounding land. This is the kind of place where you can truly slow down, unwind, and enjoy time together.
We loved our stay and will absolutely return again. Jenny and Logan, you continue to impress us—y’all rock! We highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a peaceful and memorable camping getaway.
