Waterfall Sanctuary is a hidden gem on 17 acres, bordered on two sides by the Gifford Pinchot N F. In the heart of the Columbia River Gorge just outside Carson, Washington. It's home to a mini-farm with goats, ducks, & chickens. Deer & elk walk through the property on a fairly regular basis depending on the season, it's less than a mile walk (or short drive) to the Wind River with a swimming hole, & a short distance further to the Pacific Crest Trail.
A 20-minute drive & you're at the Columbia River. An hour to the West is Portland if you are in the mood for some city life, & 35 minutes east is Hood River, a gorgeous old town with tons of charm. The closest town, Stevenson, Washington is home to shops, local restaurants, & access to the Columbia River.
Also in close proximity are amazing waterfalls, trails, & National Forest roads that are close by & well maintained. No matter the season there is something to do a short distance from the property.
Keep in mind that the property is very rugged except for the trails we have provided to access other parts of the property. We are as off grid & sustainable as possible- while no electricity or running water is available at the individual sites, we provide battery or solar operated lighting, a container of water for each site.

There are three distinct areas to Hidden Pillar. Creekside and/or Riverside camp site bookings do not include access to structures at the cabin.
- Off-grid cabin with wood stove, composting toilet, solar power, outdoor kitchen with basic supplies and grill, picnic shelter, and group camp (up to 10 tents)
- Creekside primitive camp on a bluff overlooking the river—secluded, wooded
- Riverside clearing with picnic table, fire pit and river views—most accessible site including access for some RV's
All sites include access to on-site trails, shared Columbia River shoreline access, and portable toilets.
What to Know Before You Book
The cabin sleeps 3 adults comfortably and has basic amenities inside: bed and futon with bedding, chairs and table, games and a small library. The outdoor kitchen includes two picnic tables, a gas and charcoal grill with burner, basic cooking equipment, and dishes for 8. Propane and wood fire pits are included.
Camping at Hidden Pillar is a primitive, off-grid experience:
- No electricity; no running water
- Bring all water or purification system; pack out all trash
- Gravel roads are steep and rutted—high-clearance vehicle recommended for cabin and Creekside access
Hidden Pillar Retreat provides easy access to Southwest Washington Coast beaches, historic river towns (Skamokawa, Cathlamet, Astoria), Julia Butler Hansen Wildlife Refuge, and excellent boating/kayaking.

A short drive will take you to Cascade Locks, Hood River, Carson, and White Salmon, where you can explore an array of shopping venues, delightful restaurants, local wineries, and breweries. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the nearby hiking trails, breathtaking waterfalls, and thrilling activities such as whitewater rafting, windsurfing, and sailing.
Currently, Skamania Coves offers six RV spaces available for nightly reservations. Each space is equipped with full hookups, including 30 and 50 amp service, water, and sewer. Just a short walk from the RV Park, guests can access the Columbia River and three scenic coves, perfect for relaxation and exploration.

We went during the off season and I can't even imagine having a better time. They accommodated us last minute. Very sweet barn apartment that is just above the horses with a little balcony to look out. had everything we needed and my daughter really loved reading the books. It was a luxury to have a regular working toilet in the "outhouse" or whatever you would call a really cute bathroom just feet from the apartment. Although we didn't purchase any extras, we were able to hang with the horses through the gate and they are so friendly. So cool. Loved Spirit the black cat the most we must say. We really couldn't have asked for a sweeter overnight adventure.

Weekend Trip to Fern Haus
Such a cozy and witchy vibe me and my fiancé had such a wonderful time staying here for Valentine’s Day weekend. The aesthetic was well thought out and the cabin was well stocked for a relaxing time. The cabin was a little hard to find in the dark when we arrived as it’s tucked into the back of the property, but once we found it it was nothing but a great time.

My husband and I loved staying at Trent's cabin! We were looking for a quiet, romantic getaway where we could take long walks in the woods and relax in a comfortable cabin at night. Dionne is a amazing host that helped us find the location and also came out to make sure we were all good at our campsite later on in the night. I recommend going to this hipcamp any time!

The forest view cabin was cozy. We went in winter so bring some extra blankets and you’ll be set. We loved the trails around the property and the goats were so cute. Tyla gave us great recommendations for local restaurants that were delicious and the little cafe in the house was a great added bonus. We also did the sauna and it was amazing.

My 6yo son and I had a lovely two nights on the farm! We stayed in the perfectly petite Farm Cottage, which was just the right size for us. Being surrounded by so many happy animals was a delight, and we especially enjoyed the Morning Farm Chores add-on, spending about 90 minutes helping feed and water the horses, pony, goats, dogs, cats, ducks, chickens, geese, sheep, mini pig, rabbits, mini horses, and donkey. The location was great for Gorge sightseeing, and we enjoyed meals in cute downtown Troutdale (a 15min drive from the farm), easy hike at Latourell Falls, a visit up to Vista House, and brunch down at Multnomah Falls. The farm was peaceful and quiet, and a welcome retreat from city life. We highly recommend a visit or a stay there!

100% recommend staying here! The location is nice. Plenty of activities around, but also the perfect place to just stay in. The property is gorgeous and they thought of everything! It’s so secluded and cozy, the hosts are amazing and made sure we had everything we needed and more. You get far more than just a place to stay, you get a whole experience.
