This property is currently in development. It offers tranquility, with occasional visits from deer. River access is just a short distance away, providing opportunities for fishing, sunbathing, or floating along the Cowlitz River. Just follow the pink flagging from our "Black Tail River Trail" sign at the south end of the grounds along the mowed path into the woods to the river. Approx 750' from the sign. Conveniently located near the towns of Kelso and Longview, and only 2.7 miles from Castle Rock. Two full hookups are available, two water/power sites, along with ample dry camping areas. We have a porta potty as well. Horses are welcome on the property, as are leashed/penned and friendly pets. Dogs can be off leash at the river, but be courteous and aware of other dogs. Please clean up after your animals! Cell phone coverage is good here, we do not have wifi available. We offer firewood for sale and allow propane fire pits. We also have a community fire pit for our campers, called the Lave Pit, directly across from our dry camp area. We follow the Cowlitz County burn ban, July 15-Sept 30. No fireworks allowed.

Tucked Away Retreat evolved from empty acreage to an easy retreat from the city and an opportunity to share our love of the rural life. Located in the Chapman area of Scappoose, this area is rich in logging history; the Crown Zellerbach trail is an old logging road and now an 18 mile hiking/biking "story board" of the life and culture of both the Native American Indians that lived in the area and the evolution of logging. Just over the peak of the CZ trail (which is approximately 3 miles from our property) is an old mine, just one example of many hidden areas to explore. Our retreat is just 45 minutes from Portland, yet feels a world away. You can relax in the quiet or explore the trail, the small towns that dot Highway 30 or head to the river. If you continue West on Highway 30, you will pass through many small logging towns, the old Trojan Nuclear site and eventually land in Astoria on the coast. Learn more about this land: Tucked Away Retreat is quiet and peaceful yet 45 minutes from Portland. Located on 4 private acres, watch the deer wander through the property or the hawks float overhead. Bring your bikes and hit the Crown Zellerbach trail, or hike it instead. We are located approximately 0.8 mile from the trail. Visit Sauvie's Island, the largest inland island in the United States. Paddle or kayak on Scappoose Bay, head up to the Trojan frisbee-golf course, or just relax on the lawn. We are also an easy drive from Vernonia, the Nehalem River and Big Eddy Park. We offer two sites; Site A is on flat gravel that enjoys full sun. Site A is across from the large grassy area, perfect for sunning and relaxing. Site B is on gravel on the upper drive and is shaded most of the day. Site B is best suited for camper vans, truck campers or small trailers due to trees along the back curve of the driveway. Large trailers/RV's and motorhomes will fit in Site B but you may need to back in. Site B is backed by our private, small shop. The two sites are separated by trees. Both sites have 120v, 30amp and water hookups. The property can accommodate one or two additional RV's in spots adjacent to both sites for multiple vehicle groups; contact us for more information if you are a larger group. Additional vehicles are an extra charge. Please be aware that we are RV only, we have no outhouse, so we cannot accommodate tents or folks who want to sleep in their vehicle. Weekend Trip to Tony’s Campground

This was our second time to Tony’s campground. This trip was just as great as the first time. It rained majority of the time, but the extra large gazebo was fantastic for staying dry while still being able to enjoy the outdoors. BreAuna and Tony were nice enough to let us use the yurt since the weather was so rough. The yurt is very spacious and the pool table was a ton of fun. The yurt has a fireplace which we did not use, but seemed well-maintained and stocked with firewood. There was also a TV and DVD player with drawers full of DVDs to choose from. The yurt is great for getting out of the weather while still feeling that outdoor vibe. There’s also a full kitchen and bathroom, although we did not utilize either during our trip. Thanks again for another great stay.

This is one of my favorite hipcamps! Its a nice big area and the campsites are spread out so it feels very private. The walk down to the river was so nice, my dog loved it! The hosts were so friendly and kind, they even recommended some places to eat and gave me an emergency number to call day or night. I felt very welcomed. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Tony’s campground is a Hidden gem. Ample space to spread out for the kids to run and play freely. Nice amenities like power and water hook ups and a large gazebo to catch some shade or stay out of the rain. There are a few solar lights spread across the property which provide a relaxing ambience at night. There are some small trails that loop around the property that kept the kids entertained for hours. The site is maybe 10 minutes from downtown Onalaska. The night sky was incredibly clear and we were able to see the rings of Saturn with the telescope before the clouds moved in. Tony and a BreAuna were incredibly kind and checked in to see if there was anything we needed. We will stay here again.

Weekend Trip to J Squared River Ranch

Took my wife and I on our honeymoon here this past Labor Day weekend! There were about 3 other campers in the area and us! It was a really calm and open place to enjoy, with tons of huckleberry on the way to the river! The spot we chose was just far away from the other campers that we got to enjoy our private time, and have some music on without disturbing others. At night, we got a chance to be scared from the local coyotes laughing and howling, kept us awake till they got quiet, then scared again from bunnies and rabbits hopping around at night. The river nearby was fairly rapid, not the kind to jump into. It was a nice spot for fishing, however we didn’t bring our poles to attempt. We saw DOZENS of kayakers float down the river, it sure was a sight. There is a well maintained porta-potty, as a construction worker, this was a luxury experience. Accessible water is just next to the bathroom incase you need to wash your vehicle down or wash. And a trash bin to store garbage!

Where to go

Cowlitz County Lakes

Woodland is near some pretty spectacular lakes. Two of the largest are Lake Merwin and Yale Lake, both of which are popular spots to camp, hike, and swim.

The Columbia Gorge

Straddling the Columbia River, which divides Oregon and Washington, the Columbia Gorge is famous for its scenic outlooks and ample hiking opportunities. The Oregon side in particular is known for its waterfalls, including Multnomah Falls, one of the tallest year-round falls in the country.

Mount Saint Helens and Around

Known for its devastating eruption in 1980, Mount Saint Helens draws visitors interested in natural history and geology, as well as hiking enthusiasts. It's also home to the Ape Cave, the longest continuous lava tube in the lower 48.

When to go

It rarely gets too cold or too hot in Woodland, Washington, though it can get pretty rainy. Finding yourself in a downpour is possible even in the relatively dry summer months, whereas if you spend any significant amount of time in the area from mid-autumn through spring, rain is practically inevitable. If you are planning to camp, you’ll have the warmest, driest days and nights in July and August; June and September are close runners up.
