These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. Writer looking for a spot to focus on your next book? Reader wanting to finish a good book? Both are a perfect fit. Dogs are welcome but cannot run free due to the native animals that call the area home. The ferry is a 1 hour walk so cars are recommended. The Steilacoom ferry to Anderson Island leaves from the wonderful historic town of Steilacoom which is also well worth visiting. There is no smoking of any kind in the cabin or on the property. We are located on a very private property (the only houses you will see are across the inlet) surrounded by nature but only about 10 minutes from downtown Olympia and 5 minutes from I-5 and Lacey.
The property is situated on the very south end of Henderson Inlet. We are on the tide flats so twice a day (at high tide) we have the opportunity to explore on the water in canoes and kayaks. The property is spread over 16 acres and is comprised of two large fields (one in front of our home and the other is a smaller meadow off to the side (hidden meadow) and forest land. There is tons of space for playing, exploring and tiring out your kids and pups!
Wildlife is abound with eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, shore birds and a variety of forest birds make this place their home. We are also frequented by the local deer who wonder through and say hi.
About the campground:
The campground is located in the far northeast corner of the property on the edge of the forest and meadow. In the common areas you will find the porta potty, shower and sink. There is also a supply closet that has the yard games and extra supplies. There is a hot tub situated right on the edge of the forest with peek-a-boo views of the inlet. You will also find garbage and recycling bins.
There are trails throughout the forest along the 600 feet of water (tide) front. Along the trails you will find several different benches, seats and swings to relax and enjoy nature from. There are also fairies and gnomes who have been sighted in the forest. If you look closely, you might spot one too! We ware, if you touch a fairy or gnome they do lose their magical powers so please respect the mystical creatures. 😊
The sites are about 500 feet from our house and offer great privacy. You may see us throughout the day and evening coming and going from the campground, working on the property or playing with the kids on the trails!

This cozy cottage is equipped with a queen size bed in a lovely sleeping loft, a small but useful kitchen, a large trex deck with patio furniture, a comfy couch and small dining table. The separate, but luxurious, bath house has a full sized shower, sink, and fully plumbed flushing toilet. There is even a small stacked washer and dryer available. Laundry soap available for purchase. Name brand (no dollar store stuff here) shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided.
A cozy heater keeps the tiny house warm on cool days, but there is no air conditioning. The shady woods stay nice and cool, and there are lots of screened windows to let in the breeze. The sleeping loft also has two screened windows and a fan if the nights are warm.
The kitchen has a gas 2 burner stove, a mini fridge, toaster oven, hot water kettle, french press coffee maker, dishes, utensils, pots/pans, and other basics.
The bed has 100% cotton sheets, pillow cases, and blanket. As well as a comfy coverlet. A feather alternative duvet is available for colder nights.
There is only one bed and it is not recommended for small children to sleep in the loft as there is no safety rail or gate up there. If a child is present it is recommended (almost required) that they sleep on the couch in the lower living space.

Offering a lovely, personal campsite area surrounded by beautiful trees nestled at back of a ranch with horses (and chickens) on the outskirts of the small, charming town of Yelm. (In some of the pictures you will see horses in camp area, but are not turned out when campers are there.) There is 20 amp elec. (which can safely power a 30 amp rv unless you run too many things at once) and water/hose. There is a porta-potty and a shower shed with a tankless water heater for your convenience.
We also offer a small bunk room in the barn. Heated and cooled (fan) with a small "kitchen" area, it has a pull out futon which sleeps 2 and requires you supply your own bedding and towels.
Our Internet connection out here in the country sometimes has outages which we cannot control. IF having reliable internet access is important to you, we may not be your best choice.
1 Hour to Mt. Rainier Nat. Park. 1 1/2 hours to Olympia Nat. Park. 2 1/2 hours to Mt. St. Helens. 1 hour to Seattle. Close to Puget Sound and loads of nature spots. Local hiking and fishing aplenty. Our property is surrounded by nature, yet only a 5 minute drive into town where you will find charming shops, restaurants, cafes and coffee houses, a fabulous movie theater and only 15 minutes to Red Wind Casino.
There is a railroad track next to the property, only used on Tues. and Thurs. between 10 am and 1 pm. Rarely, it may have an additional passing but it has never run after dark or early morning.
(We are close enough to roads that you may hear some traffic. They are county roads and not highly traveled for the most part.)
**Trigger Warnings: We are near JBLM military base so you may occasionally hear military doings.
Country neighbors occasionally do target practice, so you may hear some shooting.

The levees on the east and west sides of town are perfect for hikes along the rivers. The 20 mile Foothills Trail meanders right through the middle of town and then takes you along the Carbon River levee. Bike, walk, take the stroller and the family pet. If your timing is right you can take part in the Daffodil festival and parade the first Saturday of April. The Kingsmen Car show comes to town the third Saturday in June. Indulge in the privacy and comfort of outdoor shower that guests seem to love, featuring on-demand hot water that can be adjusted to your liking. Our main composting toilet, affectionately known as "Louie the first," operates similarly to a porta potty but with the use of sawdust instead of strange blue chemicals. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised by its cleanliness and comfort, all while conserving hundreds of gallons of water each week.

Forest bathing and a wonderful vintage tiny home on the forest. Cooked great food in the lovely oven and range. Tyler daily lipsticks the honey bucket with daily cleaning including flowers and essential oil. Beautiful large leaf maple forest and a host that welcomes you to the experience.

This site was easy to get to using the ferry, and was only about 15 minutes away from the terminal. The yurt was tucked into the woods, a few minutes walk from the main house, and felt totally secluded once we were there. Everything was clean, pleasant, and comfortable. Tea and coffee were well stocked, and the candles made the off grid site super romantic. Depending on your cellular provider, you might not have service while there. The toilet was a little finicky, but there’s a clean outhouse behind the yurt and Virginia was super responsive. I plan to come back again!

1 night at Secluded Forest Yurt
We loved the beautiful layout space and ended up sleeping really well. The hammock was such a sweet touch to check out the starts at night. There was an issue with the toilet so we were offered a discount to use the woods instead. All in all, it was a great stay and Virginia was fast with communication!

This place is pure magic. We started our summer with a trip and my kid begged to go back for our last trip of the summer. Gary thinks of everything. You really can just bring food and a sleeping bag and you will want for nothing. It is peaceful and whimsical. Gary is friendly and respectful of your space and by the end you can’t help but feel like family. Thank you Gary for making a place my kids feel safe, free and curious!

Weekend Trip to Elfendahl Forest
This place is magical—an off-the-grid wonderland filled with creativity, imagination, and so much attention to detail. The owner has clearly poured a tremendous amount of thought and personality into every corner of the property, and it makes the whole place feel incredibly special.
The communal spaces are welcoming, playful, and fun for all ages. There’s a large, well-stocked kitchen, beautifully designed and spotless facilities (Louis 1 & 2 and the shower), and gorgeous mosaic work and craftsman-style woodwork throughout the property.
And then there are all the fun little surprises: ax throwing, hammocks, a climbing net, a garden, punk bunnies, chickens, flowers, statuary gardens, gnomes, and so many other whimsical details to discover. There’s something around every corner.
The hosts have thought of just about everything you could possibly need. And while the camp is wonderfully off the beaten track, there’s plenty to explore—and even more space to simply relax and enjoy being there. Honestly, we found ourselves not wanting to leave!
If you do venture out, Belfair State Park is only about 15 minutes away and is a great place to explore, picnic, and swim. The warm saltwater and sandy beach made for a perfect outing.
Overall, this was such a fun, imaginative, and surprisingly relaxing stay. The campsite and host were absolutely incredible, and the care and creativity that went into creating this little wonderland really made the experience unforgettable.

1 night at Hidden Meadow Retreat
We had a wonderful stay at Jake and Molly’s Stargazer tent. It was clean, comfortable, and we loved falling asleep while looking at the sky. They thought of everything, with a charging station, power banks, showers, a great hand washing station. Their property is stunning, right by the water. We were just staying the night but could have easily stayed longer if we weren’t rushing to get home.

This site was perfect for our whole family. Our kids are 7 and 4 years old and were able to manage the stairs up to the bathroom, loved the bunk room and all the pirate fun, and really enjoyed the lake. Our dog enjoyed the freedom the leash pulley system through the property allowed him. And my husband and I got the right amount of rest, peace, and play. We weren’t quite ready for a full camping trip and this cabin had enough indoor amenities to make the experience painless (comfy beds, clean and functional indoor kitchen, and tv for wind down time) and enough campsite amenities (picnic table, lake recreation equipment, outdoor shower) to make it feel like we were experiencing the best of the outdoors without the sometimes frustrating challenges of camping with young kids.
Kevin has also incorporated a really fun pirate theme into the cove and it made the whole stay even more memorable. Our kids have already made us promise to come back next summer and we look forward to it!

Such a beautiful setting to cook, hang out, and sleep in with my pups. The entrance and the short walk to the yurt was very easy to find and follow. I had forgotten a book but the puzzles and games provided was a lot of fun. The place was clean and the grill and provided paper plates and utensils made it very easy to make my own meals.

Was a beautiful spot to stay for a few days. The stargazer tent was comfortable and warm and the bed was very cozy. Only downside is a lack of privacy at the sites . We got lucky tho with only 1 other camper. Trees are planted so that will be good in the future. The deck site for a trailer was nicely laid out. Would choose that option for next time. Our dogs loved having so much space to roam.

3 nights at Elevation Hive Forest Retreat
We had a wonderful time in the Dream Dome. The dome itself had a very comfortable bed with nice bedding. Everything was designed intentionally, very comfortable and private space. The shared kitchen was also very nice, loved the record player and collection. Outdoor shower was also excellent. The waterfront is absolutely gorgeous and so peaceful. I borrowed the provided a kayak and travelled all around, so beautiful. The inslet is filled with oysters and I saw several seal. In mid August the water was perfect for swimming. Really a magical place, thank you for letting us stay. We went on day trips to Olympic National Park and Olympia, both extremely convenient to here.
