Weekend Trip to The Arboretum at Bear Canyon West

My family and I had a great time at the Arboretum this weekend. It’s a beautiful, peaceful campground. We hiked to the river twice and enjoyed playing on the water. We will definitely be back!

1 night at Tahuya River Lodge Campground

Beautiful site, easy to back in my little trailer, nice level spot. Water and electricity hookups clean and accessible, park benches and chairs and tables throughout for river viewing or hanging out under shady evergreens. String lights and firefly lights automatically on at dusk a very nice touch. Portapotty exceptionally clean, river easy to get to, water amazingly clear, full of little fish and water bugs to watch. I fell asleep right on the well maintained lawn, listening to the sound of water running over the rocks. Large firepit and barbecue (couldn’t use due to burn ban but we did bring a propane little firepit and it worked great.) I will most definitely be back!

My dogs and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Shady Grove site. Plenty of space for my dogs to explore (on their long leashes) and it felt private even with neighbors across the way. The site was clean and fully shaded for us to hang out. Our host was super sweet and checked on us to see if we wanted any firewood. Will definitely come back!

A great place that’s quiet and peaceful. Our spot Mimi’s pond was easy to get to and has hookups for electrical (50A, 30A and 110v) and water. A shaded picnic table and outdoor grill were very nice. The fire pit was also clean and the hosts had wood bundles for purchase.

A very friendly host with lots of spaces to visit. The yurt gym is small but sufficient for a maintenance workout and there is an attached massage bed and an adjacent sauna. The public kitchen/shower is well equipped. Sites are spacious and reasonably well spaced.

You cant go wrong with a tiny home, in the vicinity of mount rainier, with cute animals! my partner and I absolutely LOVED our stay at Khohay’s Farm. It was a highlight. We could see the beautiful stars and have a quant little getaway. The hosts, Jenel & Khohay really made it shine though. They put so much work into the farm, and their animals are so cute! I’m talking goats, sheeps, pig, and chickens!! everything was so clean and just well put together. HIGHLY recommend staying here!!

What a great place! Large, private sites in the trees. Lots of room to walk the dog…very nice hosts! You can roam around the tree farm and be sure and check out Barb’s art gallery. She’s quite talented! We plan on returning soon.

Barb and Terry provide an amazing opportunity for those of us that enjoy camping away from crowds. The sites are beautiful and thoughtfully placed to create your own serenity surrounded by trees, wildlife and beautiful views. The landscape was well taken care of and Barb and Terry are fantastic hosts that go above and beyond to provide a one of a kind experience. Barb is a very talented artist who graciously gave us a tour of her studio and we were lucky enough to be able to acquire one of her beautiful paintings. Ensure you inquire about the honey that is harvested on site as well. This will absolutely be one of our favorite places to escape. I can’t thank Barb and Terry enough for providing such a wonderful experience for our family.

3 nights at Tahuya River Lodge Campground

This was my second stay here. Loved it so much I wanted to bring my niece and best friend. This spot is gorgeous and I highly recommend it. They have innertubes and kayaks to borrow for river fun and laser set up for night time viewing you can switch on. There is a clean porta potty if you're dry camping, a picnic table on the river spit with an umbrella we had our lunches at. They even have a hammock stand I set my hammock up on. Kim and Terry have clearly thought of everything possible to make this a paradise. My dog loved the river too!

1 night at The Khohay Farm

Jenel and Khohay are great hosts. Jenel was very responsive to my messages and provided a lot of helpful local advice when I needed it. She even shared some recommendation lists, which made me feel that she truly cared. On the other hand, Khohay warmly introduced me to his farm after I arrived. The place feels like it’s full of little corners to explore and enjoy. Unfortunately, I arrived a bit late and had to leave early the next morning for a hike, so I didn’t have enough time to fully enjoy it. I really appreciated how they challenged the typical idea of a campground. They offer a space where campers can freely choose where to set up their tents, while still providing full access to all the facilities like the kitchen and bathroom etc. I honestly didn’t expect that, but it made my stay feel very thoughtful and complete. I had a wonderful night(not to mention, the sunset over the fields, with the golden light streaming in, was absolutely beautiful!). If you’re looking for a campsite close to Mt. Rainier and you’re open to a bit of adventure, this is a great spot. I’d definitely recommend it to all fellow campers!

We had a wonderful stay at the Arboretum! The Brown site was private and spacious. The grounds were beautifully maintained and we had a nice grassy site, even at the end of July! The views are gorgeous, and there are plenty of places and trails to walk with your pups! Barb and Terry are incredibly gracious and we had a great time exploring the nature and art. We left feeling rested, with plans to go back, and also with some honey and art to take home. Highly recommend!!

I stayed at the Sweetheart cabin & it is just the cutest!! Located at the top of Jenel & Khohays beautiful farm, you get such an amazing sunset. Lots of goats, 2 of the cutest puppies & a pig!! While the farm is amazing, Jenel & Khohay are even moreso. Both so welcoming and sweet. I couldn't recommend staying with them more.

We have a 40 acre property at the end of 381st Street East. About 16 acres of hay pasture, 2 barns, the original 1910 farmhouse as well as the big lodge built in 1987. The RV is alongside the main lodge, to the left as you are looking at the garage. We have a fenced-in chicken paddock, fenced-in garden area, 2 horses living their best life as pets in the lower pasture, peafowl in the pole barn, and lots of wildlife around - finches, blackbirds, hummingbirds, barn swallows, doves, other song birds, Canadian geese, ducks, frogs, dragonflies, wild bunnies, field mice, bats, hawks, crows, occasional visits from a river otter family, an eagle, or a herd of elk (usually seen around dawn or dusk), and on the less desirable side we also have gophers, moles, voles, wasps and mosquitos - and the possibility of a coyote, mountain lion, or bear though those sightings are quite rare. You are welcome to roam the property and explore. Please don't enter the chicken paddocks, the peafowl enclosure, or the horse pasture for your safety and the animals' welfare. We typically have plenty of eggs from our chickens, who are fed a soy-free, corn-free diet with lots of table scraps - just let us know if you'd like us to stock the frig with some (available seasonally from spring to fall)! During the summer there may be garden produce available as well, and in August you are welcome to pick blackberries from the ever-present blackberry bushes that are found in many places around the property. Please take care around the pond - there are fish in there, and it's quite mucky. It's not suitable for swimming. There is no fence or gate around the pond - or the hot tub for that matter - so please watch your children carefully. We have an 8-person patio dining table and some comfy patio furniture out on the back deck of the lodge that we are happy to share with you, as well as a BBQ grill, fire pit, and hot tub.

David, his wife, and everyone else that helps maintain the property were SO sweet and welcoming. Seems like it would be a lovely place to stay in the winter, so thats when I'd like to come back! 5 stars all the way for everything here, the thoughtfulness of the cabins, the cleanliness, the readily available kitchen and the hospitality. You NEED to check this place out."

Dogs were very friendly and Kristy let us use a propane fire-pit to provide warmth and a fire for our tent site. The bathrooms were clean and there was some water by our site, but we did not use it. The camp, for the tent site… we arrived and she drove us all over her property and told us to just choose where we wanted to camp. We chose to stay in back of the horse area. While we could see the house from there, we didn’t care and if you want to move back in the woods further, there are spots back there too that would provide more privacy if you need that. This is a great site and a one of a kind experience being that close to the horses."

The Arboretum at Bear Canyon West

This is a gorgeous park-like RV campground situated between the trees of the arboretum. No tents, please. Also we have NO public restrooms. Beautiful view of the mountains and forests here in western Washington. We are close to Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier and several lakes. There are walking trails all around the site. The 12 acre campground is located on a 136 acre property that is an active Christmas tree farm. Trails continue throughout the tree farm. Many trails have a view of the Tilton River, which can be reached via a challenging 3/4 mile trail. Sites are on 10 acres planted with many different species of trees that are about 30 years old. Giant Redwoods, Cedars, and Maples are just a few of the varieties present. Part of the farm is still a working Christmas tree farm. The trails are wide and grassy. The old logging road that we use as a trail to the river has an elevation change of about 500 feet, the trail can be quite challenging. Bear Creek empties into the Tilton river at the end of the trail. There is an ART GALLERY where you can learn to pound flowers, see the host's artwork and get a cup of coffee! This is upstairs above the shop, right on the property. Tilton River Studio Gallery. Three sites have electrical hookups. Every site has a water spigot (use a pressure regulator if you want to hook up). No restrooms or sewer hookups. Garbage disposal site available Memorial Day to Labor Day. Less than an hours drive from Crystal Mountain Resort. Located at the top of Carbon Canyon we have endless trails for hiking, horse riding, and motor sports. Feel free to bring your toys and you can drive right off the property. You will be staying in a rural area next to horses, goats, pigs, chickens. A little about Orting - Nestled in the foothills of Mt Rainier between the Puyallup and Carbon Rivers, Orting is a quaint Turn-of-the-Century village that you will not forget. The town center is anchored by three parks filled with giant maples and evergreens. You will be awed by the view of Mt. Rainier from Washington Avenue. The levees on the east and west sides of town are perfect for hikes along the rivers. The 20 mile Foothills Trail meanders right through the middle of town and then takes you along the Carbon River levee. Bike, walk, take the stroller and the family pet. Enjoy the turn-of-the-century architecture of downtown and eat at one of the 15 restaurants. If your timing is right you can take part in the Daffodil festival and parade the first Saturday of April. The Kingsmen Car show comes to town the third Saturday in June. Then there is the Pumpkin festival the second weekend of October. Finally the year is capped off with the Christmas festival throughout December. Then there are the many foot and bike races that take place on the foothills trail throughout the year. PLEASE NOTE: 24 hour advanced notice on early arrivals mandatory as we work. We will always try to accommodate but cannot guarantee. If you require a 30 amp hookup please make sure you have an adapter for the 50 amp outlet.

Five quests are free with up to 2 more for a $10 dollar per person. Pets allowed on leash as there are wild animals on site. Modern Bathroom with cotton towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner, two sinks, shower with a claw foot bath tub, seven foot long, bathroom might be shared with other guests. A separate room with fridge and microwave, ALL Cleaned after each person just because we are really careful hosts. Campsite faces a Christmas Tree Farm and cows in a field. Traffic noise possible as Veazie Cumberland is a main two lane road 250 feet from camp site. Two State parks within four miles. Four miles to the town of Enumclaw. We have a 3 or 6 person tent for rent, a queen air mattress, sleeping bags if needed as well all at reasonable rental prices. There are two fire pits one shared on the ground and one above ground for wood fires. Fire wood for sale at $10 a bundle. Nice big bundle and kindle. New for 2024 is a gazebo with outdoor furniture and a propane fireplace. And a new picnic table located adjacent to the RV pad. In 2023 I installed a mesh WiFi system that gets good coverage at the site. Kick back and watch a movie on your laptop. Connection information is on the electric outlet adjacent to the site. In 2022 I had a gravel pad installed. I mention it as some of the older photos show folks needing levelers. Not the case anymore. Overhead clearance to wires is about 12 feet.
