Campfire Tale: The Legend of John Tornow "The Wildman of the Wynooche." More than a century ago, the forests around Travers Mountain were home to one of Washington’s most mysterious figures — John Tornow, the Wildman of the Wynooche. Born in 1880, Tornow grew up as a gifted woodsman and hunter. He was known for his uncanny ability to move silently through the timber, living off the land with the skill of someone more animal than man. But his story turned dark after the tragic deaths of his nephews, the Bauer twins, whose family homestead you can still see from our property. Accused of their killings, Tornow fled deep into the wilderness. For nearly two years, he evaded every search party and posse that hunted him. Locals whispered that he was impossible to track — some even swore he could vanish into the trees like a ghost. He became both feared and respected, remembered as part outlaw, part legend. The tale ends in 1913, when a massive manhunt cornered Tornow in the woods. Even then, he fought fiercely, leaving his mark on Grays Harbor history forever. So when you camp here whether its under the trees-at Tornow’s Timberline, perched high at Outlaw’s Overlook, or gathered by the fire at Wildman’s Saloon Stop — listen closely to the night sounds. The owls, the wind, and the rustling branches might just remind you of the Wildman, still wandering in spirit through these hills.

Learn more about this land: Pull your RV or trailer onto this lot and take in the beautiful southwestern view of Mt. Jupiter ridge and a peek-a-boo view of the Dosewallips River! Listen closely, and you will hear the sounds of the river below. The lot is equipped with power and water hookups! Please be aware the water hookup is near the main gate entrance and the power is about 40 feet apart, so you may need a long hose (see pic). Enjoy the view from the large deck, firepit, or picnic table overlooking the river, valley, and mountains. This lot is truly a little slice of heaven! Within a few minutes, find yourself at Rocky Brook falls (see pics) for a spectacular view and even a swim if you so please! Pleasant Harbor Marina (also shown in pics) also within 10 minutes! You will also find many hiking trails and parks nearby! There is weak cell service on the lot, so you may or may not be able to connect. I get 1-2 bars with Sprint. While this property is not very far off the Dosewallips road (35 mph), it is generally very quiet and peaceful. You may hear cars and motorcycles from time to time, but very faintly. The lot is at about 350 ft. elevation, so you may get noise traveling up the valley from the residential community below (to which I belong), such as dogs, people using chainsaws, etc. There is hunting allowed in the national forest, so you could potentially hear guns in the distance during the day, but that is rare. There are a few close neighbors, so please be respectful and quiet, especially in the evening. Please bring your own firewood when campfires are allowed and please do not forage for firewood on or around the property. Lastly, while the sightings have been few and rare, the neighbors have seen bears, cougars, coyotes, and bobcats near their homes and this property. So keep an eye on your children and pets, especially if off-leash (your pet of course!) The property also slopes a bit where the deck starts, so again, keep a close eye on the kiddos. You have a very good chance of seeing the local Roosevelt Elk that travel in huge herds around Brinnon (See pics). They sometimes lay down and hang out on the grass on the property! Make sure your pets have their flea and tick updates!

We have alternate arrival instructions for you after you book. These instructions add about 7 minutes (totaling 8 minutes) from SR 18 to the campground. Our location is convenient. We are just minutes from Auburn city limits. Road noise, planes, Pacific Raceways, and freight trains are audible here even if muffled by the trees. Our distant neighbors occasionally indulge in target shooting. We have a brand new neighborhood in construction on one of our property lines. In order to provide safety and peace, hosts live just outside the campground and closely manage happenings. All our sites have 2-4 persons occupancy in hopes of deterring parties. Our quiet hours are 8pm-8am so we can rest up for the next day’s adventures. Propane stoves are welcome during fire bans. We do not have a check in cut-off time. Reservations do need to be made before midnight. We have zero tolerance for hateful, abusive, or discriminatory behavior toward people, belongings, and wildlife. The 40+ year old trees and distance between the campsites provides space for you to bring and create your own vibes. Hosts should only approach you with safety or quiet hour concerns. There is tons of space for playing, exploring and tiring out your kids and pups! Wildlife is abound with eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, shore birds and a variety of forest birds make this place their home. We are also frequented by the local deer who wonder through and say hi. About the campground: The campground is located in the far northeast corner of the property on the edge of the forest and meadow. In the common areas you will find the porta potty, shower and sink. There is also a supply closet that has the yard games and extra supplies. There is a hot tub situated right on the edge of the forest with peek-a-boo views of the inlet. You will also find garbage and recycling bins. There are trails throughout the forest along the 600 feet of water (tide) front. Along the trails you will find several different benches, seats and swings to relax and enjoy nature from. There are also fairies and gnomes who have been sighted in the forest. If you look closely, you might spot one too! We ware, if you touch a fairy or gnome they do lose their magical powers so please respect the mystical creatures. 😊 The sites are about 500 feet from our house and offer great privacy. You may see us throughout the day and evening coming and going from the campground, working on the property or playing with the kids on the trails!

Larry and Dolly McMurtrey purchased the Delveccio farm in 1975 next door to this farm. The farm offered an exciting new venture after retirement. The McMurtrey's had many fun and unique ideas. They purchased truck loads of scrap glass to resell as fish glass, which is still seen today in the parking lot. They grew bamboo and sold imperfect veggies that farmers were going to throw away. Eventually they landed on Christmas trees. To expand their ventures, they leased this land for many years then eventually sold the Delveccio land and purchsed this farm in 1998. Today, Larry and Dolly's daughter and son-in law, Jana and Pablo Sifuentes have grown the family business to provide wonderful memories to the community during the holiday season. This year the farm will start a small u-cut flower field then add the pumpkin patch in September and November. (This is a leave no trace site. You must take all of your garbage with you!) Just 1.5 hours from Seattle, Portland, Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens, & Olympic National Park, just 3 minutes from Rainbow Falls State Park and 4 minutes from Willapa Biking Trail! We are located on top of Bunker Hill nestled between the Dunn creek and Chehalis river. Our property is 56 acres of mixed biomes including multi-generational forests, open meadows, and creek side trails. We are located right off Chandler Road, off of Highway 6. You turn onto Labri road (white sign) and you're on the property after going through a gate. Meander down the road past a red barn and several buildings on your right. Through the second gate, the dispersed camping site offers various sites for camping attached to a main trail that parallels the Dunn creek down to the Chehalis river. They are conveniently accessible off the logging roads which cross with Labri road after you've passed through the second gate. If you take the logging road to the left (look for a blue and white ribbon) you will come up to a tree line where you can park (another blue and white ribbon) and either take the trail to the left or right where you will find ample places to camp. You may camp along the trail or closer to the creek. The most ideal spot is right after you park near the blue and white ribbon if you walk North you'll see a site marked with an orange and white ribbon. This site has easy access to the creek but is still on a hill. There are four RV spots with full onsite hook-up. Two of the RV sites are paved and lit with ground lights and are prioritized for heavier rigs. The other two sites are on grass. We have two RV sites with no hook up (boondocking) but bathroom and shower access. We do not allow dumping of grey water or sewage at our property but there is a dump station just 1 minute away at Rainbow Falls State Park. The site is located on a hill so you get very nice view of sunsets and sunrises. For those who enjoy bird watching the nearby fruit trees bring in many birds. We are an ideal location for those who love the outdoors or just want to have private family events. 6 mi from Jones Creek Brewing, 7 mi from Evey's Cafe & Pe Ell, 20 mi from I-5, 69 mi Westport Quiet hours are from 11pm - 8am.

This is a gorgeous park-like RV campground situated between the trees of the arboretum. No tents, please. Also we have NO public restrooms. Beautiful view of the mountains and forests here in western Washington. We are close to Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier and several lakes. There are walking trails all around the site. The 12 acre campground is located on a 136 acre property that is an active Christmas tree farm. Trails continue throughout the tree farm. Many trails have a view of the Tilton River, which can be reached via a challenging 3/4 mile trail. Sites are on 10 acres planted with many different species of trees that are about 30 years old. Giant Redwoods, Cedars, and Maples are just a few of the varieties present. Part of the farm is still a working Christmas tree farm. The trails are wide and grassy. The old logging road that we use as a trail to the river has an elevation change of about 500 feet, the trail can be quite challenging. Bear Creek empties into the Tilton river at the end of the trail. There is an ART GALLERY where you can learn to pound flowers, see the host's artwork and get a cup of coffee! This is upstairs above the shop, right on the property. Tilton River Studio Gallery. Three sites have electrical hookups. Every site has a water spigot (use a pressure regulator if you want to hook up). No restrooms or sewer hookups. Garbage disposal site available Memorial Day to Labor Day. Weekend Trip to Hood Canal Oyster Farm | Lilliwaup

We had a wonderful overnight stay at Jim's Hood Canal Oyster Farm. We originally booked site #2 but Jim contacted us prior to our arrival and invited us to stay at site #1 which became available. We were lucky to have the place to ourselves over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. All three sites are very well kept, peaceful, and private. The hookups worked perfectly, and our 21' class C RV had no issues with the short steep climb to the site. Site #1 is the largest and we loved the herb garden and table. I did notice that site #3 is more private and would have fit our RV with no issues. We hope to be back soon. We can't thank Jim enough for the absolutely delicious oysters from his farm.

Beautiful spot! Arrived on Thanksgiving night to a soggy and foggy view but the next morning woke to blue skies and beautiful Mountain View’s! Plenty of space and the deck and fire pit (although weather prevented us from using) was a wonderful addition. Even though the location is amount neighbors and other homes, it felt very private and very quiet. The views can’t be beat! Would stay again.

We stayed for 2 nights to explore the surrounding area in Carnation, Fall City, and Snoqualmie and this site was perfect. Only 1 RV spot so you don't have any other campers around. Adorable goats, sheep, and pig next to the RV site so we were able to watch them while eating breakfast. Amazing sunrises and beautiful view of the mountains and morning fog. Quiet and serene. Host was incredibly gracious and offered us a farm tour. It was a bit of a tight squeeze to get on the driveway from off the road, but other than that, it was great.

What a beautiful campsite! I stayed here with my girlfriend and our pup for a single, rainy night. There was plenty of flat space for our 22-foot van and a large space that was "our own," which included a fire pit and table. The forested area in the back had a path that led to a creek, which, combined with the rain, created an amazing ambience. On the way out in the morning, we picked up some apple cider from the small "shop" at the entrance. It was delicious! Although I think it will be many years before I'm back in the area, I'll certainly be looking to stay here again when I am.

We really enjoyed our time at Witt's End. Jake and his wife put a lot of thought and care into the space they created. It was also fun to watch the salmon coming upstream to spawn.
