Escape the noise and immerse yourself in nature on a private 32-acre off-grid sanctuary. Nestled directly on a beautiful creek and surrounded by three different national forests, this is the perfect basecamp for your next adventure or a peaceful retreat to recharge with your loyal companion since we are pet-friendly. This isn't a crowded campground; it's your land to explore. Fall asleep to the sound of a gentle creek, wake up to crisp mountain air, and spend your days hiking, fishing, or simply relaxing by the fire. With direct access to thousands of acres of public land, the possibilities are endless. Whether you're looking for a weekend getaway in your tent or a longer stay in your self-contained RV, this slice of paradise offers the solitude and connection to the wild you've been searching for. The Space: Your campsite ensures total privacy and a true sense of seclusion. You park at the top of an embankment and walk down about a 10 foot decline. A capable 4 x 4 overland rig can drive down. Our home is situated on the far end of the property with its own separate entrance, while you’ll have your own driveway and gated entrance. We are close enough that if you need a cup of sugar or a telephone, we’re here for you—but we won’t intervene in your stay unless invited to, such as for a live guitar singalong by the fireside ;-) If you stay up late howling at the moon, or if your dog barks at wildlife late at night, you’re far enough away that we won’t be bothered. The property fronts a serene creek with truly pristine water. Due to the remoteness of the area, there is no industry or population density to pollute it. It’s perfect for cooling off on a warm day, trying your luck at fishing, or simply enjoying the tranquil sounds of flowing water. There are multiple large, semi-level areas perfect for setting up tents or parking self-contained RVs, giving you plenty of room to spread out and make yourself at home. We flattened out a creekside 9x10’ tent site. This is a true off-grid experience. Come prepared to disconnect, as there is no phone service, but we have installed WiFi. Enjoy the stars free from city light pollution.

With multiple campsites, car camping, and remote primitive sites, there are plenty of options for your next adventure. Located on 600 acres, we have developed the previously used agriculture land into a trail center in hopes of transforming the property from an underutilized farm into a facility that could support local outdoor recreation use and programming. Currently there are 14 miles of purpose built trails, with plans to install up to 30 miles of natural surface trails that will create access to and feature the natural beauty of the property, which includes open meadows, mature hardwood forests, rock outcroppings, an area of volcanic activity, seven freshwater springs, headwater streams (including Brook Trout habitat), and three distinct knobs. These features provide a rich and unique landscape for a trail system. With so much here, there is no need to leave the property. But if you’d like, we are sandwiched between the Monongahela and George Washington National Forests. An outdoor enthusiasts dream.

Open for the season and accepting bookings--May 15-September 1, 2026. Live sustainably, enjoy life. Enjoy our family's 32 acre eco-wonder property that features forested mountain walking trails, two small ponds, seasonal waterfall, and the Potomac River that runs through it. Perfect private retreat for nature enthusiasts, writers, artists, musicians, contemplatives, and small families. MountainTop got its namesake over 30 years ago for the small mountain plateau that resides at the top of the property, just a short hike from the cabins and campsites. One can easily find the soothing voice of water nearby at the seasonal waterfall or alongside the flowing river. Rejuvenate with friends, families, nature lovers, and contemplatives. Mountaintop offers superb stargazing, swimming, fishing, hiking, strenuous mountain biking, camping, serenity, peace, and connective nature immersion. There are currently three sites: the MountainTop Cabin (sleeps up to 4); the Retreat Cabin (sleeps up to 4): and the Fern Grove campsite (sleeps up to 4). You can book a cabin or the campsite for your family, or the whole place for a small group by booking each site--that will ensure privacy. The two cabins have high speed internet access and the tent site can get access by walking to the Peace Pavilion. Last year we hosted wellness retreats for small groups at this little oasis tucked in the mountains of gorgeous West Virginia. "When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe." John Muir Note: All wheel drive or 4-wheel drive needed to cross river. 1 hour from downtown Harrisonburg, Virginia. 1 hour 40 minutes from Charlottesville. 3 hours from Washington, D.C.

235 Acres of Private Mountain Camping | Exclusive Access | Trout Stream | National Forest | Dark Sky When you book River2Ridge, your group has exclusive access to all 235 acres. There are no neighboring campsites, no shared spaces, and no other campers. Hike, explore, move camp throughout your stay, or settle into your favorite spot—the entire mountain is yours to enjoy. This extraordinary property borders over 2,500 acres of George Washington National Forest, providing direct access to hiking while maintaining complete privacy. Explore more than 1,000 feet of elevation change, a half-mile of scenic Cowardin Run, hardwood forests, wildlife habitat, and spectacular western-facing overlooks with sunsets stretching nearly 60 miles across the Allegheny Mountains. At night, enjoy exceptional stargazing. Our property experiences light pollution comparable to nearby International Dark Sky locations, making it an incredible place to view the Milky Way, meteor showers, and thousands of stars. Located only 3 miles from downtown Hot Springs and The Omni Homestead Resort, you'll have easy access to restaurants, golf, horseback riding, fly fishing, spa treatments, and the historic Warm Springs Pools before returning to complete solitude. Please note before booking: Weekday Construction: We are building our future home near the center of the property. During normal business hours (generally Monday-Friday), you may occasionally hear or see construction activity in this central area. Because the property is over 235 acres, there are numerous quiet camping locations well away from the construction zone. Even during construction, only one Hipcamp reservation is accepted at a time, so your group continues to enjoy exclusive access to the property. Occasionally, foresters, environmental specialists, or USDA/Virginia Department of Forestry personnel may visit to monitor the forest or ongoing conservation projects. Visible wildlife trail cameras are used solely to monitor wildlife and property conditions—they are never hidden and are not intended for guest surveillance.

Glamping on Timber Ridge

Our property was a small family farm for several generations. Our family purchased the property about 18 years ago. Since we are not farmers but love living here, the question became "What would be the best use for the land?" Living in a scenic area and already being in the vacation rental business on some other family property answered the question. We decided to share the beautiful view and seclusion of our area with others. Our goal was to keep the cost of building down so that we could pass on the savings to you so that you would not have to be rich to enjoy our lovely area. This inspired the idea of a glamping cabin. The cabin is actually a repurposed office building that was built about the time this property was purchased by our family. We moved it to the present location and completely remodelled it in 2018 and added the bathroom. For 4 years, guests enjoyed an off-the-grid experience. In 2023, when we began work on the glamping dome (stay tuned--coming soon!!), we decided to add electricity, running water, and a hot tub to the tiny house! We hope you enjoy the cabin (and, soon, the dome) and the stunning view from them as much as we enjoy sharing this beautiful spot with you! Note: The Charming Glamping Cabin is at a totally different property. That property also has a section that used to be farmed. Now a lot of it is forest. We purchased the property around 2000. This cabin was built approx. 10 years later. At that point, the cabin was a tiny economy cabin with a sofa bed. However, it seemed most folks preferred comfort over economy, so in 2020, we added a bump-out to the side of the cabin so there would be room for a queen bed. Guests have loved the improvement. (: Please read the individual site descriptions for more information on each of our listings.

For all you outdoor enthusiasts! Gather your friends and family for a “glamping” getaway. This is a primitive experience and there is no electricity or plumbing in the cabins themselves. The 10 cabins, each housing a queen size bed …. are situated on a working regenerative farm. Close to hiking, wineries, breweries and local caverns this is a magical spot to camp for the weekend with your group or by yourself. Outdoor cooking, eating areas, bonfire pergola and bathhouse with three private, open air showers! "Convenience center" on site containing a deep sink, coffee pot, and refrigerator/freezer for guest use. Battery packs, clip on fans, and lanterns available upon request (max of 2 each per cabin). Just a short drive from the cabins, located on another property, guests are allowed to access the tranquil Middle River. There you will find a wonderful picnic area with tables, a charcoal grill, and a fire pit.
