This private campsite sits on land once part of a historic country club and now offers a rare blend of mountain solitude, scenic access, and outdoor recreation.
The campsites are tucked into pines and mountain laurel for privacy and wind protection, with multiple flat areas for tents or campers (leveling may be needed). While summer foliage limits direct views from the campsite itself, the drive and nearby ridgeline provide spectacular overlooks—you’re camping on one of the highest points in the area.
This is a primitive, off-grid campsite. There are no facilities. Guests must bring all gear, food, and water, and pack out all trash and waste. A camp toilet is required.
Perfect base camp for hikers and backpackers. The Tuscarora Trail is easily accessed via the Biby Trailhead just 0.8 miles down Timber Ridge Road. The site sits near the midpoint of one of the trail’s most scenic stretches (Gore to Trout Pond), making it ideal for day hikes, section hikes, or multi-day trips. Long-term vehicle parking for hikers can be arranged with advance notice.
Beyond hiking, enjoy miles of quiet paved and dirt roads for walking, biking, or horseback riding. Down the mountain, guests have access to community recreation areas including grassy fields, a baseball diamond, playground, fishing ponds, and a scenic lake (low water at times).
The campsite is accessible by 2WD in good conditions, but 4WD is strongly recommended, especially in rain, snow, or ice. Vehicles can drive directly into the cleared camping area. Each site includes a stone fire pit. The space works well for one large group or multiple smaller groups (larger groups with advance notice).
