Site 2 -White Oak Camp
The site was spacious and private. The prepaid firewood was waiting for us next to our fire pit when we arrived. Carol was delightful and gave us a tour of the grounds, then gave us our space. The outdoor shower was an adventure as it was about 40° outside (but the hot water was nice!)
It was a bit of a hike to the toilet, but worth it for the privacy surrounded by trees

Site 1 - Carol's Corner
Tom an Carol were very nice. They showed us around and told us what we needed to know for the shower and the composting toilets. A very nice view of the night sky in the clearing with the barn house and chicken coup. The campsites themselves were tucked into the woods at the corners and felt private but not too far away if we needed anything.

Charming rustic landscape with functional but quirky shower and compost toilet. Great option for those who want the convenience of car camping at a state park with more creature comforts than primitive, but much more privacy and quiet.
Hosts are friendly, open minded and happy to share tools and gear to make your stay enjoyable. They are also knowledgable about local hikes, arts and wine country.
Great stay for us and the dogs.

Site 1 - Carol's Corner
Staying at Carol and Tom’s was lovely. Their property was beautiful, and they were incredible hosts. They welcomed us and showed us around and gave us lovely hiking recommendations. I would recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay.

We had an amazing time at Tom and Carol’s place despite being caught in an intense thunderstorm. It was lovely weather when we arrived and Carol gave us some fresh cherry tomatoes from the farm! Our campsite was beautiful, secluded, and we absolutely loved it for the 1 hour we spent there before the thunder and lightning rolled in. We abandoned our turkey burgers that were on the fire and took shelter in the car for a bit, but Carol texted us very quickly to let us know we could head into the barn on the property to shelter. We spent the night in the barn after tripping the breaker because all power had been knocked out on the property due to lightning! We were able to comfortably stay in the barn all night and Carol checked on us to make sure we had every last thing we needed. She even refunded us the cost of our firewood since we barely got to use it! What could have been a miserable night was redeemed 10 times over by Carol’s generosity and kindness. We plan to return soon to fully take advantage of all that the property has to offer! Thank you thank you thank you, Tom and Carol!!

Our site was mostly secluded and a real joy to be at! Tom and Carol are the best! We joined them for a bit and sang some songs and made some memories! We loved the whole experience!!

Site 2 -White Oak Camp
We had a wonderful stay at Tom and Carol’s campsite! The site was peaceful and private, with everything we needed — a water spigot within close walking distance, fire pit, bathroom, hot shower and a picnic table. They even provided us with wood. Their property is absolutely beautiful and perfect for a quiet getaway. Quick drive to Shenandoah for any needed adventure. Carol, the host, was great with communication and showed us around graciously when we arrived. The spot was also easy to find with her directions. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to disconnect and enjoy nature.

We loved camping at Carol and Tom's lovely "Small Potatoes Farm." They were both incredibly friendly and helpful. Our campsite was beautiful and secluded. Yet, it was a quick walk to the outdoor shower, the composting toilet, and to the shed/house where they let us refreeze our freezer packs for our cooler and charge our phones. It was only 30 mins from Shenandoah NP. The area is beautiful! We will definitely stay here again!!

We loved staying here. So quiet and private, and it truly has everything you need. The picnic table, fire pit, and elevated platform were all helpful amenities. Everything was so green and cute. Tom and Carol are very sweet and attentive hosts, as well as interesting people! They made us feel very cared for during our stay. Carol gave us great local recs for wineries and hikes! (Glass house winery or bust!) This spot is truly a hidden gem.

We absolutely loved staying at Carol and Tom's. Carol's corner was warm and inviting. There is potable water nearby, shower and your own bathroom. Everything was perfect.

Beautiful and secluded camping space on their land! Tom and Carole were so lovely and welcoming. Nighttime was quiet and calm. Great little trails to walk on the perimeters too, our dog was a fan. It felt like an incredibly private but safe space. We will be back!

i went tent camping with four of my friends and it wouldn’t have been such a wonderful trip without carol and tom! they have the cutest property and they’re such friendly people that will work with you to ensure you have the best experience! we went on a weekend of a bad hurricane where they were getting lots of rain and wind but she made sure we would be safe by giving us an emergency place to stay and everything. they have wonderful communication and help to accommodate the best they can! thank you so much carol and tom!!

Site 1 - Carol's Corner
We felt as if we were children being told what to do. I would feel more comfortable if I knew the extra rules to the campsite before we got there. Also, I paid for a bundle of firewood to be at the campsite when we got there. We had to get it ourselves. Other than that, it is very remote and quiet. There is no traffic noise and the sound of nature is fantastic. If you have a fear of chickens, this is also not the spot for you. We did not mind the composting toilet or the showers except that we Didn’t have hot water, but I am only assuming it’s because the pilot light was out.

Site 2 -White Oak Camp
The campgrounds were maintained very well. Early July, there were some wild berries on the property too and Carol was kind enough to allow us to pick and eat them! Site 2 is more secluded than site 1 but site 1 is closer to the bathroom and outdoor shower. If you like to light up your campsite, I would recommend bringing more lights than usual as the site, at least site 2, is much bigger than other campsites in other campgrounds.
The hosts were amazing and would highly recommend this place.

We had a wonderful time on Carol and Tom's land! The hosts were both friendly and helpful, the land and amenities were well maintained, and the campsite was private and exceeded our expectations. We couldn't have asked for a better experience!

We had a wonderful weekend at Carol and Tom's site. Wildlife was abundant, we felt secluded enough to be comfortable, and our hosts were incredibly friendly and gracious. 10/10

We loved our time with Tom and Carol! This site is the more private of the two sites, but it is a little further from the toilet and shower. When folks were in the other site, we were still able to enjoy our private area by our site while we had to walk by the other site to get to the bathroom. The outdoor shower was a lot of fun, but it took a little playing around with it to get it hot, but we figured it out! The trails around the property were well maintained and were a great way to start the day, took us about 10-20 minutes each lap.
This area is also soooo cute! Stanardsville is the perfect lil small town with a coffee shop and grocery stores. If you're jonesing for a bigger city or a chain restaurant, Charlottesville is just about 40 minutes. 20 minutes to Shenandoah too! This place has it all!
Tom and Carol alone are worth the trip. They're great hosts and tour guides. SO sweet and helpful. You can feel the joy and love they have for the property in every inch of the place. They didn't overly check on us or anything (I'm usually not a chit chatter), just the right amount!
Our dogs also really enjoyed their time here! Lots of sticks to chew and new things to sniff! Just a note on the leash rule. As someone who has camped with my pup in a lot of HipCamps I know that most of the time when they say "leash required" it actually isn't. They are serious here about keeping the pups on leashes, so if that's a dealbreaker for you book elsewhere. Wasn't a big deal for us.

Our experience was wonderful at Tom and Carol's place. It is a little respite in a busy world. They told us about a local festival, and we went. It was so charming! Both adults and teens had fun. We also hiked nearby. We felt safe and welcomed at their camping spot. I highly recommend!

Tom and Carol were the best host! Upon arriving, I was greeted by Tom, who personally showed me around and even gifted me with an extra roll of doggie poop bags. Carol and I even went on a hike together where it felt like I had a personal Shenandoah national park tour guide. The site was perfect with plenty of space and privacy, while not being too far away from the compost toilet or the outdoor shower. It was so nice to have a platform for my tent (I brought my 10x10 where it fit perfectly with a little extra space for a “ landing”). Great location for stargazing. As a female solo traveler, I felt safe and would recommend this location, especially for other women. This location was the perfect mix of feeling like I could be alone to really connect with nature, but with all the creature comforts a novice camper might need.

Space is amazing and so peaceful!! It is also so close to many hikes & wineries , about 35 mins from Charlottesville if you want a day out in the city!

We loved camping at Tom and Carol’s property! We stayed in the more wooded site, which provided some seclusion from the rest of the property. It was fun exploring the trails on the property and the stars were super visible at night! Tom and Carol are both easygoing and lovely people to talk to. I would recommend this site for anyone looking for a comfortable place to pitch a tent.

We loved staying at Tom and Carol’s! They are wonderful hosts that instantly make you feel at home, and their entire property is a gorgeous display of Appalachian beauty. We had everything we needed in our camp, from the toilet and hot-water shower to a spotless place where we could pitch our tents. This stay was a 10/10!

Very cozy spot. We stayed in the more wooded lot. The kids got to hold baby chick's. We added on the firewood bundle and it was already at the site when we arrived. Best and cleanest compost toilet we have used. Shower available, but we did not use (nice amenity though). We added on the fresh eggs bundle and they were very good too. Very attentive host. We would definitely stay again. Maybelle's in downtown Standardsville was very good. We hiked in Shenandoah and it was about 35ish min from downtown.
