Occasionally, foresters, environmental specialists, or USDA/Virginia Department of Forestry personnel may visit to monitor the forest or ongoing conservation projects.

We are an officially permitted and licensed, by the State of Virginia, campground.
Please read individual site descriptions for specific details for the sites. Not all sites are the same. There is also info available at our facebook page.
We have a Charcoal Grill (includes spatula, tongs and turning fork) available to rent for $10 (fee is for entire length of stay).
Come camp on the peaceful banks of the Cowpasture river. This is a great place to come to get away from the noise and just relax. The river depth along the property ranges from a few inches to 6ft. Most sites offer partial shade. Open field area for playing games. Large communal fire pit beside the river. We also have a communal Shelter that has two booth style tables under it.
Nearby places of interest including Falling Springs waterfall, Humpback Bridge, Lake Moomaw, Douthat State Park...all within less than an hours drive.
Only a few minutes from the closest town, incase you need food, supplies, fuel, etc.
Please note that not all cellular providers have service at this location. I know that Verizon does.

Located on 600 acres, we have developed the previously used agriculture land into a trail center in hopes of transforming the property from an underutilized farm into a facility that could support local outdoor recreation use and programming. The camp is secluded on 42 acres of woods and pasture land just outside Waynesboro, VA. The Upper South River is spring fed, and it runs diagonally through the property. Day lease fly fishing is also conducted on the property. Though urban, it is very private and the water is always cool.
The campsite has a fire ring, cooking grates, rotisserie, picnic table and a trash can. It is primitive camping with no outhouse (yet). We had such a great experience at Swedish Lilac. We had a beautiful site near the river, with a view of the meadow. Our hosts, Fritz and Valerie were so accommodating and gave us some great tips on what to see and do in the Lexington area. We rode our bikes on the Chessie Trail, which was wonderful, shady and level. We also visited Natural Bridge State Park. Also enjoyed playing ping pong in the pavilion and watching fireflies at night. Wish we could have stayed longer.

I had the place to myself and enjoyed staying cozy on the windy days. Was fun to watch prop planes fly low over the site. The walkability of this location is excellent. Just a very short walk to the path along the river. Keep going and reach exercise stations. A little further along, a wider park with trails and views. Playgrounds in several directions and plenty of places to walk the dog. Hosts are very friendly!

Spent three nights here at spot 11. Loved it. Very spacious spot with a large grass field beside it that leads to a picnic and ping pong table covered area. There's a road on one side of the campground but that didn't bother us too much. Beyond the creek on the other side are some railroad tracks that, again, didn't really bother us. The bathrooms were clean and the showers were hot. They offer free WiFi that works throughout the campground and free firewood, never seen that before. Owners were friendly and attentive. We will be back!

Our 4 nights at Swedish Lilac was lovely. Fritz was so nice and the perfect host. The community of other campers was sweet and we made some friends that we really enjoyed talking with. The bathrooms were clean and the campground was quiet. It was perfect place for us to spend a few days this fall.
