Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays. We also don't offer longterm rentals as we focus on short term camping.

Welcome to our small Farm, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Madison County, Virginia. Located just minutes from Shenandoah National Park, we offer intimate nature-inspired cottages and camping on our 120-acre working farm. We do not allow RVs or trailers on our main farm due to our narrow mountain driveway. Wisteria Camp has a private driveway, it can accommodate small RV/Trailers. Camper vans are welcome at the main farm! Our farm store includes our Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy, as well as produce, jams, coffee and other items from our local community. We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours. The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon (20 minutes) and Old Rag Mountain (10 minutes) trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries. A few offerings on the farm. Tasting in the 1850s Chestnut log cabin, tubing trips, breakfast and picnic lunches, Animal experiences and Yoga. Gittn' Pickled is back! Re-opening in August 2026 with upgrades. Gittn' Pickled is located on VA620, a gravel road that doesn't see a lot of traffic. Trout Creek, a lively full year stream, is directly in front of the cabin and provides soothing sounds all day, and night. Gittn' Pickled is .6 miles Trail East of the Appalachian Trail on VA620. Appalachian Trail features Mcafees Knob, Dragon's Tooth, Audie Murphy Memorial, and Tinker Cliffs are just minutes away by motor vehicle. I've prepared a hiking guide to get you started. This is an awesome location to tackle the Triple Crown or just enjoy SW Virginia. Pickles Branch terminates into Trout Creek here. Pickles Branch is a beautiful stream in a cool and richly forested terrain. All of the Miller Cove ground water empties into Pickle's Branch which can become very impressive during high water events. Miller Cove, within the Jefferson National Forest, is an area that was once occupied by a small active community. You will find foundations of old structures, springs, creeks, orchards, mushrooms, ramps, wildlife, and much more. Miller Cove can be accessed, by foot, directly from the site. It can be an especially interesting and pleasant hike without the inconvenience of shuttles and parking. Two bunkbeds are provided with four twin long (35x80) mattresses. These are new hospital bed mattresses with non-permeable covers. Four standard size pillows with non-permeable covers and pillowcases are also provided. You should bring additional bedding as desired; sheets, blankets, etc.

This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. We are located within two miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian trail via a gated, public, forest road. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants. Learn more about this land: Heavily wooded mountain side with flowing creek. Easy access (walking distance) to Jefferson National Forest, National Forest horse trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail. (Note: You cannot drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as the path is an old forest road which has been gated, but you can walk up to it.)  We also have a tree house which has AC, heat and electrical connection.     You may camp anywhere on the property.  There is plenty of frontage on the creek and several tents can go up there. We have 60 acres of mountainous land with hiking trails and great views. It's perfect for family time, bonfires, relaxing, hiking, biking, and picnics. Bring your own hammock or enjoy one of ours along the trails! This peaceful property is located near Whitetop Mountain (25 minutes) and Grayson Highlands State Park (40 minutes). The Virginia Creeper Trail in Damascus is just 15 minutes away! We offer a glamping cottage with a kitchenette, electricity, and air conditioning. An 11-gallon camping sink and 5 gallons of drinking water are provided. A porta-potty is available and is serviced weekly. The tent sites and the cottage both have access to our new, natural spring outdoor shower. The spring water is from our own spring located on our property. We house it in a solar rain barrel to assist with warming it for showers. Spring water showers have excellent benefits for skin and hair. The cottage features a full-size bed, a queen sleeper sofa, and a twin bed in the loft. Guests also have access to a private fire pit, picnic table, and charcoal grill. Two tent sites are available and include a fire pit, charcoal grill (charcoal provided) and picnic table. No electrical hookups. But potable spring water can be provided. Pets are welcome, and Wi-Fi is available. Just bring your hiking boots, bikes, groceries, and toiletries!

Sharp's Island is so named because the Sharp family of Richmond owned it as far back as the 1850s. The old brick foundation you see in the pictures is all that remains of a house that was built on the island in 1895 and stood for 75 years! We consider ourselves stewards of an amazing historic, ecological, geologic, and recreational asset, and we would love to have you add your story to this island's long history! Learn more about this land: One-of-a-kind really only begins to describe 1-acre Sharp's Island! For starters, this is the only legal camping option in the city of Richmond. You read that correctly. This is your own private island, and it's right in the heart of downtown RVA! The Piedmont meets the Coastal Plain right here at Sharp's Island. That makes for amazing fishing, especially during the spring shad and striper runs.  Some other incredible things about camping at Sharp's Island: You can motor up to it from Ancarrow's Landing, canoe over from the trail just below Mayo Bridge, or make this the destination for your downriver raft/kayak trip; at summer river levels there are oodles of great swimming holes along the banks; fire pit ready and waiting for you. Cozy Bear sits right by the large noisy, trout stocked creek, with a private hot tub between the creek and the cabin, and less than five miles from Hillsville, which has a grocery store, local shops, a gym, dining, and nearby hiking. There is a shared bathhouse with a conventional toilet and an outside shower, shared with tent guests occasionally. Inside Cozy Bear, there is a queen mattress up in the loft, and a sleeper sofa downstairs. The kitchen has a sink, coffee maker and on the deck is a blackstone griddle, a propane firepit and a wood burning firepit is by the creek. Cozy Bear has a composting toilet and a shower in the bathroom, an ac window unit and a beautiful propane fireplace. If the temps get extreme outside, the waterlines do freeze. I will gladly do a full refund or change your dates if the forecast is well below freezing, although this cabin is cozy and warm inside. Cozy Bear is solar power/ and grid and is a six mile drive to I-77 and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The nearest towns are Charlottesville, Scottsville, and Palmyra.  Within 5 miles, enjoy amazing canoeing, hiking, fishing, and disc golf.  Hosts will greet campers and are generally around to address any issues or questions, but the site is totally private, so you’ll enjoy plenty of seclusion during your visit.  About the listing The tiny house has three twin sized beds; one on the main level and the other two lofted above the main floor on opposite sides and accessed by a ladder. There is also ample space for setting up a tent outside of the tiny house and some campers have even managed to pull a small 8x10 trailer into the campsite.  Take advantage of access to a private fire pit during your stay. There is also a stove in the cabin to keep you warm. The outhouse features a pit toilet.  Additional details to note Early check-in or late checkout can be managed on a case by case note, depending on whether or not the campsite has other reservations. Pets are allowed. The property is a working farm, so please respect the animals and those who are working and be sure to close the gate behind you if you opened it.  There is no kitchen in the tiny home, but some minimal and random cookware is provided, along with a small camping stove, if you would like to bring your own camping stoves.  Running water is not available in the cabin. The Host will provide five gallons of water for you and can always refill up at the farm, but feel free to bring additional water with you as well.  There is no WiFi, but there is good cell service for all carriers.

Weekend Trip to Thunder BRidge

Came for two nights, with my adult son. We stayed at Woodpecker 5, screened cabin. It was very clean, and spacious. Very cool, actually. We had one nice day , and a rainy day, so it was nice to come back to a dry place. We used our power bank to watch a movie, to end our rainy day..The creek was right behind it, & was beautiful. We saw an owl and deer. I would definitely return!

Weekend Trip to FoxDen by Heartwood Farm and Cabins

We had a great get away and would definitely stay here again. The A-Frame is super cute and cozy. The only thing I would suggest is if you're going in the summer, take a battery operated fan - it does get warm inside at night. We used the coordinates provided and had no problem finding the entrance, though it might be hard to see in the dark. All in all, a lovely stay!

There were a few ways in which we which we were better prepared or things we did that were helpful that we would have wanted to know: - The creek is dried out/at a very low level. Do not plan to bathe or fish in it - Bring extra firewood, fire starter, & water - Bring cleaning supplies. There were a some dead bugs and we needed paper towels. - Bring extra toilet paper - bring a larger cast iron pan if you plan to cook for 2+ Thoroughly recommend for a quiet weekend that’s rejuvenating but also in reach of Stanton (very cool town) for shopping and dining.

Weekend Trip to Shenandoah Retreat by Hazard Mill

We had a great time here. The views were beautiful and the cabin was very cozy. If you're looking for a nice quiet place to get away I would highly recommend it. If you're looking to fish just know that all of the canoes and kayaks from the local business pass through there so beware of the times you plan to fish. Would definitely come again!

This was my fourth stay at Thunder BRidge in the last three years, and somehow I think I came away loving the place even more this time. This trip was a little different from my previous visits because we turned it into our first big family camping trip. There were 13 of us altogether, spanning three generations, including four senior citizens. We rented three of the cabins for the campers and the Airbnb on the property for the older folks who wanted a few more comforts. Honestly, I can't imagine a place that could have worked better for a group like ours. As always, the campground itself was beautifully maintained. The bathrooms were immaculate, and the pavilion ended up becoming the center of our entire weekend. All 13 of us could comfortably hang out together, play games, cook hot dogs, and put out a full spread of food without ever feeling crowded. Having a space where the entire family could gather made an enormous difference. Adam is also a fantastic host. Over four stays, I've found him to be consistently responsive whenever I've had a question or needed anything. He answers promptly, takes care of the property, and makes the whole experience incredibly easy. The location is almost impossible to beat if you actually want to explore the Natural Bridge area. Devil's Marbleyard is only about five minutes away, Natural Bridge State Park is roughly 10–15 minutes away, Virginia Safari Park is around 15–20 minutes away, and we went tubing with Twin River Outfitters in Buc
