This was a 55-acre farm, split in half to accommodate a bypass through Charlottesville, so the previous owners had to give up half the land, and actually moved the house down to the other half of the property! They had to build a land bridge to get to the new home site, so they turned the bridge into a dam and created a beautiful large swimming pond, complete with beach and gazebo. My wife Stephanie and I bought the property in early 2017 and have turned it into a private horse farm, adding pastures, a riding ring, and 6-stall barn. The recreational draw to this area is hard to beat in VA, and this property has it all for an amazing outdoor weekend! The ranch comprises 40 acres of lowland acreage designated for the camp, including a 5-acre lake.
The Cedar Grove sites 1, 2, and 3 are along the banks of Passage Creek located within a sparse, groomed Cedar grove. They are all a short walk (or drive) to the lake and beach amenities. Each site has varying access to the creek, so check out the site details. These sites are extra large and can accommodate multiple family groups, as well as, travel trailers of all sizes up to off-road motorcoaches in site 1. There are no hookups, so just boondocking. Pack it in, Pack it out. Generators are allowed but please be aware of the other sites and direct the noise away.
The Lakeside Mountain Stream site is very secluded, nestled between the mountains and the lake. It overlooks our 5-acre lake with mountain views in the background. It's on the opposite side of the lake from the Cedar Sites. This site has its own dock and is just a short walk down a mowed trail to a beautiful section of Passage Creek. An additional seasonal mountain stream can cascade behind the site and run under it to feed the lake when the conditions are right. It's a delicate site, so the accommodations and group size is strictly limited.

Locally, the North end of Fort Valley offers many great hiking trails, trout fishing, rock climbing, horseback riding, and the Elizabeth Furnace day-use park. UVA sports complex is only 30 minutes away and you’re able to go the back way in to skip the gridlock of the traffic.

The Graves Mountain property is a total of 1800 acres to explore. The Campground consists of 7 acres and expands to 55 for special events and holiday dates with a special permit.
Accommodations also available at Graves Mountain Farm & Lodges: 55 Lodge Rooms, 20 Cabins/Cottages/Suites.
The Farmhouse Restaurant is located in the Main Lodge and open to our guests and the public.
The Graves Market, Tackle & Deli is located just before reaching the Campground Entrance.
Activities available at Graves Mountain Farm & Lodges: horseback riding, pony rides, guided hikes, fishing guide services, yoga, massages, farm tours, UTV tours and many more.
The Gift Shop is located in the Main Lodge on the lower level along with guest lounges. The Reservation Office and the Farmhouse Restaurant are located on the upper level.
The outdoor seasonal swimming pool is located near the Main Lodge and is open to our Campground guests for an additional fee.
The Graves Mountain Farm petting farm is open anytime and guests are welcome to go on a self-guided tour to visit the animals.
Water spigots for fill ups are located in the campground. Porta Potties are located throughout the campground. The dump station is available onsite for an additional fee.

This was a 55-acre farm, split in half to accommodate a bypass through Charlottesville, so the previous owners had to give up half the land, and actually moved the house down to the other half of the property! They had to build a land bridge to get to the new home site, so they turned the bridge into a dam and created a beautiful large swimming pond, complete with beach and gazebo. The ranch comprises 40 acres of lowland acreage designated for the camp, including a 5-acre lake.
The Cedar Grove sites 1, 2, and 3 are along the banks of Passage Creek located within a sparse, groomed Cedar grove. They are all a short walk (or drive) to the lake and beach amenities. Each site has varying access to the creek, so check out the site details. These sites are extra large and can accommodate multiple family groups, as well as, travel trailers of all sizes up to off-road motorcoaches in site 1. There are no hookups, so just boondocking. Pack it in, Pack it out. Generators are allowed but please be aware of the other sites and direct the noise away.
The Lakeside Mountain Stream site is very secluded, nestled between the mountains and the lake. It overlooks our 5-acre lake with mountain views in the background. It's on the opposite side of the lake from the Cedar Sites. This site has its own dock and is just a short walk down a mowed trail to a beautiful section of Passage Creek. An additional seasonal mountain stream can cascade behind the site and run under it to feed the lake when the conditions are right. It's a delicate site, so the accommodations and group size is strictly limited.

Eric was awesome. Friendly and very welcoming, he gave us a chance to set up (big group) and then stopped by to welcome us and make sure we knew where everything was including The Wall with facilities, maps and just a great spot to wash up for supper. We camped L spot but they all looked great. L spot was perfect for my family and gave everyone something they loved from the kayaks, Jon boat, a large pond and a great creek. Falling asleep to the mountain spring fed pond was just everything. Thanks for sharing your beautiful property and just being a very warm and welcoming dude.

Casa Vargas was just what we needed. A quiet and peaceful getaway. We camped at the LAKEVIEW spot. Our dogs had a blast playing in the water but likely scared the fish away for me. The night sky was clear and amazing. And Juan was very welcoming and helpful with any questions we had. I would definitely recommend staying here and we’ll likely return. There are plenty of winery’s and breweries close by but this trip we just chose to sit by the lake and relax.

Our time there was nice & peaceful. The cabin was well stocked, comfortable, & warm. The restroom facility was comfortable to use, particularly with the heater in there! The resident black cats were a welcoming addition as well - they love to play and snuggle, and appear to be well fed lol. The access to firewood was great as well, though inventory was low. The owner was very responsive and kind. 10/10 would stay again!

My friend and I stayed for Saturday through Tuesday and couldn’t be more impressed by the camp and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The views are beautiful (sunrise especially), the camp is clean, the bathrooms and showers were better then my dorm hall in college so for camping it was a 10/10, the showers were warm, and the host was quick to respond with any problems we had. Despite being pretty far out in nowhere I had only a little issue finding service. Only note of warning is that the roads need some serious maintenance. The road into camp was rough but my tiny sedan was able to do it but the roads to the campsite section would have been completely inaccessible to most cars with less clearance.
Overall amazing, I fully plan to return next time I’m in the area and have already recommended it to others.

Camped two nights at Seven Islands with my 13-year-old son, we had a fantastic time. Campsites are right on the James with great views and plenty of solitude. We kayaked, fished, and relaxed by the fire at night. We loved watching when trains went by on the northside of the river.
The Seven Islands stretch of the river is beautiful. Michael's farm is a great spot for a father-son trip or anyone. We greatly appreciated Michael's hospitality and would definitely return for another visit. Seven Islands is now one of my son's favorite camping spots.

We really enjoyed our weekend on site two at this property. Site two is really large and the most private imo. It’s the last site when driving in so no other campers are driving by. There is no shore at this site to sit down by the river but I knew that when booking. There is a very steep spot at the site for river access with a rope for help but it just dropped straight into the water. Might be different with lower water levels. The site was perfect for stargazing. Our dog loved all the open space for running. We loved falling asleep to the sounds of the river. We loved being able to leave cash for wood that was stacked at the site when we arrived. Overall we enjoyed the space and had a really relaxing weekend.
