Weekend Trip to Dome@Meadows

Great spot and a beautiful sight. Many extra details on the site make the stay very enjoyable. Site is very clean and private. Solar lights at night are a great touch. I’ll be back!

3 nights at Woodbury Meadows

We had a great time on Jon & Ann's site - the facilities were clean and functional, the wifi is strong, the area is quiet, safe and pleasant to stay in, it's an easy 20-minute drive to Montpelier and we even got some good birding advice! The swimming pond is about a 30-minute walk away and there's also good kayaking spot right next to the site. Recommended!

I loved camping here! The camp site was perfect. Great space. The water down by campsite B was perfect to float and sit on the rocks and enjoy the sun. My dog absolutely loved relaxing in the grass while we played yard games. The sunset on our first night was beautiful. We also drove to the falls about 15 minutes away and it was a great little hike. Overall this was an amazing experience and would recommend this to anyone

4 nights at Woodbury Meadows

Jon & Ann's property didn't disappoint. Was a little hard to tell what we were coming to for the first time based on pics but it was perfect. Enough partial shade with a level pad for our 24' trailer....and the bath house was just perfect and well maintained. The wifi was super strong and reliable ta boot! Jon's a heck of a fellow and we got to swap great experiences with him while we were there.

3 nights at Slateville Farm Secluded Camps

We loved camping at Slateville Farm, Heather was wonderful and the property was spectacular! So peaceful, quiet, and picturesque. Absolutely loved the Ridgeline Vista site, great views! We look forward to returning soon.

2 nights at Dome@Meadows

This is a great spot. Accurate to the listing. Property is right off a rural road so there's a bit of traffic but barely noticeable. Nelson has set up a dog tent for us as we were traveling with our puppy. There's 2 picnic tables, both with shade. The folding chairs are pretty nice. We enjoyed the river, the outdoor shower. We had the whole place to ourselves so it was pretty great. I would definitely go back again.

2 nights at Slateville Farm Secluded Camps

Private, spacious sites with amazing views! Great for families, and even better if you wanted to bring friends. Host was very accommodating and helpful! The quarry was the highlight of our trip and we are excited for our next stay on Heather's land!

I had a lovely stay at Shari’s Hipcamp - beautiful, private, and accessible to lots of places to explore the outdoors. Shari’s was very warm and welcoming, and having access to WiFi and bathe rooms in the Outdoor Center was a definite bonus! Highly recommend.

Weekend Trip to Greenbush Farm

The time spent camping here was wonderful! Very secluded, next to a large open field with views of the mountains. The dogs had lots of space to run around and play, and loved walking us down the 30 or so ft to the clear trout stream to go swim.

Loved the campsite! We stayed at site 3 and really enjoyed the privacy and spaciousness. There wasn't a great access point to the creek at this site because the grass was so overgrown, but we were able to find a clear path by site 1 before the people camping there that night arrived. Overall, would recommend and would come back to Peter's land if I'm ever in the area again!

This was our second time staying on Peter’s land, we stayed in the fall last time so it was our first summer trip! It was just as perfect as the first time! It is such a peaceful place to be with plenty of privacy and things to do in the area. I highly recommend and will absolutely be back.

Weekend Trip to Free Verse Farm

Free Verse Farm was absolutely amazing. Misha met us as soon as we arrived and explained everything we needed to know and gave us firewood. And we had traded messages via the app before we got this, so he is extremely professional and a great communicator. This is the most pretty campsite we have ever camped at in our lives. Gorgeous views of the mountains. Total privacy. Their outhouse is son nice that it should be the model for all camping bathrooms. They provide a great outdoor shower and clean up sink down by their barn. We will definitely return there again. I cannot say enough good things about them.

Weekend Trip to Riverside Retreat and Tiny Cabin

This is a great camping spot with easy access to plenty of activities. I used the location as a jumping off spot for a few Gravel and MTB rides. Will definitely do it again!

Primitive Clothing Optional Camping

A private, remote, off grid, primitive campground and resort in the pine forest for voluntaryist, ethical anarchists, and body freedom naturists (nudists). We are a working homestead and welcome visitors who have a strong work ethic to stay for longer periods. May Fest 2025 "Cooperation" was chilly so we burned a big pile of pine wood to keep our weiners warmed up. Our next adults only event is August 8-11, 2025 and it could get pretty wild so no minors allowed for that! Our Cold Water Hose is turned on for season! Camping, hiking, and living off grid is available here. We host full moon gatherings monthly to build the society we all opt-in to. We are usually adults only, but if you are 100% responsible parents we're welcoming to families as scheduling allows. Our main focus is to get Shit Done, improving the resort, building out hiking trails, etc. This is currently a "minimalist" camping experience, if you pack it in, please pack it out. There is a solar powered extension cord outlet to charge or power small devices when the sun allows. We have a composting pit toilet with small changing tent over it for privacy. Sprinkle ash from bucket on your poop and cover with dirt. BYO-TP Plenty of pine firewood to burn has fallen in the woods. Only if wind is low or nonexistent. Dispersed camping available in the pine forest anywhere around the parking areas and further into the woods, and along the creek you crossed near the CAT Excavator. The creek is available to dip into at specific times of the year, usually only a foot or so deep unless there was a torrential rain, where it can get 3-4 ft deep at places. There's plenty of forest and streams to explore and camp out further if you want to hike farther from the parking areas into the woods to camp. Please don't get lost! We can show you a few spots to choose from when you arrive based on your wants. We can accommodate large parties of campers. Nudity is allowed anywhere on the property but not directly on the shared driveway and next to neighbors property. Our neighbors are further down the road with an animal sanctuary so you may hear roosters, horses, etc. when they're hungry. There are a handful of individual camp sites available in the spring, summer and fall, as well as a communal outdoor kitchen with lighting, a fire pit, a stone pizza oven and a sitting/yoga deck. We also offer more of a "glamping" experience in our 14 ft yurt, which comfortably sleeps 2-3 people with wood stove heat and a solar battery for lighting. Texas Hill Brook camp site The Texas Hill Brook site is a flat, wooded campsite on Texas Hill Brook in Huntington. The campsite is roughly 10m x 30m (30' x 100'), large enough for several tents or a small camper/RV. It is accessed by a sloped 50m (about 150') gravel driveway. The narrowest part of the driveway is 2.6m (about 8.5 feet). There is a 3m x 3m (10' x 10') tent platform and a large picnic table. Firewood is provided. Near our home about 120m/400 feet away through the trees but relatively private. Within a short pedal or drive to some of the best mountain biking and hiking Vermont has to offer, 15 minutes to Richmond and Hinesburg, and just a half hour to Burlington. Electricity on site, primitive fire pit, but no other facilities, so ALL waste must be packed out. We have a bucket commode to loan if you don’t have your own. Dark Star Cabin Dark Star is the perfect base camp for your northern Vermont hiking and biking adventures! Comfortable accommodations for 6 in a solar powered cabin. Located in Huntington close to some of Vermont’s best trails, Dark Star is a short hike (less than a mile) from a private, secure parking area. The hike is not difficult, but ground is uneven, some of it is uphill, and it may be wet. Note that this property is HIKE-IN ONLY and pack in/pack out (i.e. you will need to pack out all trash, etc.). Unwind in the wood-fired sauna, lounge on the deck under the stars, sharing stories of your escapades and planning the next day’s adventures. Shaded Brookside Glen is a level, mowed lawn surrounded by mature trees and bushes. Dry camping only, but a nice composting outhouse is easily available nearby. Water is available from the year round trout stream, but drinking water must be carried in. Shaded Brookside Glen has a picnic table, a metal fire pit, and limited fire wood is supplied. The drive to the site is across a grassy, mowed, well drained field, but can be effected by long periods of rain.

There is a solar powered extension cord outlet to charge or power small devices when the sun allows. We have a composting pit toilet with small changing tent over it for privacy. Sprinkle ash from bucket on your poop and cover with dirt. BYO-TP Plenty of pine firewood to burn has fallen in the woods. Only if wind is low or nonexistent. Dispersed camping available in the pine forest anywhere around the parking areas and further into the woods, and along the creek you crossed near the CAT Excavator. The creek is available to dip into at specific times of the year, usually only a foot or so deep unless there was a torrential rain, where it can get 3-4 ft deep at places. There's plenty of forest and streams to explore and camp out further if you want to hike farther from the parking areas into the woods to camp. Please don't get lost! We can show you a few spots to choose from when you arrive based on your wants. We can accommodate large parties of campers. Nudity is allowed anywhere on the property but not directly on the shared driveway and next to neighbors property. Our neighbors are further down the road with an animal sanctuary so you may hear roosters, horses, etc. when they're hungry. Overview

Rochester is a small town in central Vermont situated at the base of the Green Mountains. The White River flows right through town, as it makes its way to the Connecticut River as its longest undammed tributary. Despite its small population, Rochester has a thriving arts and culture scene with several galleries, frequent festivals and concerts, and a theatre company. Rochester’s proximity to camping, hiking, and biking trails in the Green Mountain National Forest and several ski areas makes it a great basecamp for outdoor adventures.

Moosalamoo National Recreation Area

Nestled into the western slope of the Green Mountains just twenty minutes from Rochester, the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area offers hiking and mountain biking trails, several camping areas, and plenty of scenic views. The area’s highlight is the Robert Frost Trail, an interpretive trail that commemorates Robert Frost’s poetry and introduces hikers to the area's landscape.

Chittenden Reservoir

The Chittenden Reservoir is tucked into the Green Mountain National Forest about 45 minutes from Rochester. This pristine lake is a popular spot for motor boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and swimming. There’s also several miles of trails around the lake for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snow-shoeing adventures.

Branbury State Park

Located at the base of Mt. Moosalamoo, on the eastern shore of Lake Dunmore about 30 minutes west of Rochester, Branbury State Park is a great spot for boating, kayaking, fishing, and swimming. The park offers 36 campsites suitable for tents and trailers as well as seven lean-to sites for tent campers.

When to go

The Green Mountain National Forest surrounding Rochester, Vermont is open year-round. Summer is the best time for camping, hiking, and water sports as long as you come prepared for mosquitoes and other biting bugs. The Green Mountain National Forest is also one of the best places to see fall foliage in Vermont. The Lake Dunmore area is particularly pretty in fall and colors are best between late September and middle of October.

Many national forest and state park campgrounds near Rochester offer advanced reservations online. Parks typically have a handful of sites on a first-come, first-served basis too.
