It all started on a first date in Boston....Nick had to excuse himself to take a phone call. His cow had fled its pasture. Much to Tara's surprise in that moment, this man she had just met was finishing his engineering degree at Northeastern, but was simultaneously building a homestead in Vermont.
Fast forward 7 years, and here we are, building the life we only dreamed of.

This off-the-grid homestead sits on a quiet dirt road just outside the quaint village of Chester. Spread across 28 acres, the property features streams and trails to explore.
The 8' x 14' Studio, complete with an accessible entry ramp, offers an elevated porch overlooking the garden. New this year are Adirondack chairs, a covered outdoor kitchen with table, grill and two-burner camp stove as well as a fire pit. Guests also have access to an accessible bathroom with a clawfoot tub located in the main house, about 250 feet from the Studio. An outdoor shower attached to the main house is also available. A wood-fired barrel sauna can be reserved for an additional charge.
Frank, Julie, and their very chill black Lab, Skye (who roams off-leash), welcome all visitors, from local to international, LGBTQ+, and those of all abilities.
Chester itself offers a small grocery store, convenience store, a great coffee/sandwich shop, wine store, and several restaurants. Hiking trails are available both on the property and in the village, while Okemo Mountain, Mount Ascutney, and Lowell Lake State Park are just 20 minutes away. Manchester and Killington are approximately 45 minutes from the property.

Camping is provided by and in support of the Blueberry Hill Outdoor Center, a 501 3C non-profit company. Located in the heart of the Green Mountain National Forest, the Outdoor Center provides access to the Blueberry Hill network of trails, the Vermont Long Trail, The Catamount Trail, and the Moosalamoo National Forest Trails.
All campsites are located at the edge of the field behind the Outdoor Center. We have hot/cold outdoor showers as well as restrooms in the Outdoor Center. For more information, visit our website at blueberryhilltrails dot com.
While there is an internet connection near the buildings, it may not be available at your site. Cell service is limited at best. You can drive your car right up to your site. Sites are a good distance apart. Site 1 and the Bed in the Shed are the most private. Site two is quite open and supports trailers.
For your campfire, you can forage for wood or request "bundles" (about a dozen hunks of wood) by the morning of your arrival, and we'll have it delivered to your site. Please note, wood from outside Vermont is not permitted.
We like to keep things quiet. No generators at any time.
Step outside your tent and you'll find a wealth of hiking, biking, and running trails. As stewards of these trails, your camping fees help support the efforts of this non-profit company. Nearby, you can enjoy swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. Trail maps are provided upon arrival, and you can also view them online on our webpage at Blueberry Hill Outdoor Center.
The Outdoor Center offers snacks and cold drinks for purchase, including our inn-made chocolate chip cookies, chips, and cold drinks. Also available on site, at the Inn across the road on mornings we are serving, may be a full breakfast, pastries, packed lunch, and coffee. (Please enquire in advance or night before if any inn items are available. ) Don't miss our Pizza Nights at the inn. More info on the Outdoor Center or Blueberry Hill Inn webpage. Payment for extras can be made on-site via Venmo or cash.

6 Sites are on Sunrise Farms 75 acre Conservation land with 50 mile view for Sites 1 and 2. Very quiet area with lots of wildlife and ponds and disc golf. Very quiet with great swimming and lots of hikes right from your sites.
2 of the Brookside Sites (Wishbone Left and Right) are close by (2.7 miles) where we have another 1/2 mile of river frontage and can handle bigger groups as Conservation land on Sunrise Farm only allows 4 campers per site.
Sunrise Farm Sites 1 and 2 have oodles of space and Spectacular 50 mile views of Mount Monadnock with no house lights out there in the evening except the party string lights we provide.
Site 1 (with entrance 70 yards south of the farmhouse) is best for camping in with up to 20 foot trailers or multiple tents …on the large flat spaces in the 25 acre field to choose from.
Great Well water available near farmhouse. Biodegradable soaps Only if used in the ponds. Double Olympic sized Swim Pond we stock with Rainbow Trout to keep clear.
We have been advised Not to allow imported firewood (can import Wood Beetle dangerous for our forest).
- PLEASE use the Firewood bundle tubs we provide ($12.50) - pick up at the farmhouse or pull wood from the woods (and make it safer for use).
Beautiful and plenty of wildlife nearby... as well as Outhouses are marked on Map we provide with solar lights marking them at night. Do Not Leave food out when camping or away from site. Bears are rarely seen but it is wild country. Sites have locking garbage lids.
Unique and lovely as well as being next to trails and roads to miles of remote spots with very few if any ... people.
In Winter we request only AWD vehicles go down to this site or park up by farmhouse and hike in so you can easily get out. When wet park up by the road if you have 2 wheel drive.
Always WISE to arrive When LIGHT out as we do not live at the site and are not able to show guests to their sites as a result.

HIKING
Take a hike through our woods or access the thousands of acres adjacent to our property. You will see waterfalls, streams, birds, tracks from the wildlife, and beautiful views. Plenty of places to dip into the cool water when you need to cool off! Walk or drive down to either of 2 covered bridges and see the craftmanship that enables them to continue to be used today! Access the Long Trail at multiple locations within a few miles.
BIKING
Bike the back roads of the area—wooded areas, windy or flat terrain, beautiful views, plenty of spots to rest beside a flowing stream. Or, access the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail (93+ miles of non-motorized riding/walking on a converted and maintained railway bed).
FISHING/HUNTING
In the mountains we have streams, brooks, and rivers. There are many hotspots for fishing—lots of brook trout! No matter the rod you use, there are many places to try your skills. A fishing/hunting license is needed.
CANOE, KAYAK, TUBE
Got your own? Bring it! The Lamoille River is a few miles away and a favorite for water lovers. Don't have one, there is a great rental place down the road where you can take one out for the day. Looking for another option to the river? The Belvidere Pond is down the road and offers a peaceful place to paddle around surrounded by the mountains.
MAPLE SYRUP/SUGARBUSH
Want to learn about the maple sugaring process? We are always happy to give you a tour of our sugarhouse and the woods, and explain how we turn the tree sap into yummy Maple Syrup. (We only boil January-early April.) We do have this year's crop bottled and available for sale! Buy one for morning pancakes, to add to your morning coffee, or to take home!
WILDLIFE/BERRIES/MUSHROOMS/FIDDLEHEADS
Depending on the time of the year, you can find wild raspberries, blackberries, mushrooms, and fiddleheads. (Please do not pick or eat something if you don't know if it is poisonous!) And, wildlife are around. Look for tracks in the soil, signs they have been there, or if you are really quiet (usually in the early morning or at dusk) you might see deer, geese, or wild turkeys!
OTHER ACTIVITIES

- Jay Peak is a quick drive (North)
- Disc Golf, Ropes Course, Golf, and more.
- Access local eateries like the Burger Barn - a local favorite, grap a yummy sandwich or pizza at the Cupboard.

- Forgot something? There are small groceries, a couple of hardware stores, gas stations, etc within a quick drive.
Camp sites include flat area, fire ring. Electricity and water at 2 sites. 1 site has a poured concrete pad -- perfect for a camper/RV. The other sites (grassy) can accomodate a camper/RV or tents. Please be prepared to provide your own camping toilet and pack out your trash. If you bring your dog(s), please clean up after them and have "control" as the dirt road is fully in view of the sites. (ATVs (on the trail) and a few vehicles do use the road.)

We are surrounded by 180 acres of lovely Vermont forest, yet just a stones throw from Brattleboro’s interesting downtown full of shops, galleries, and restaurants. There are five cabins, a communal fire pit and covered pavilion (with tables and a gas grill) and a bath house with individual toilets and hot showers! Hammocks can be hung between the trees and you are already among the miles of trails that are on the campus.
Brattleboro is home to many local swimming holes, miles of hiking and biking, canoeing and kayaking, and loads of interesting activities. Local events, beautiful farms and orchards, farmers markets, food truck vendors, and live music abound in the summer and fall. Come check us out!

Weekend Trip to Vermont Homestead
This is a true gem! We spent 2 nights there and absolutely loved it. The hosts were incredibly nice and helpful, and they provided everything we could possibly need. We enjoyed sitting by the fire, cooking on the excellent camping stove that was provided, enjoying the lovely sauna, taking long walks on the property, and hiking up Mt Ascutney nearby. The property is truly gorgeous (the pictures on the listing really don't do it justice) and very peaceful. Having the guest bathroom at our disposal was great too. We'll probably visit again.

We've stayed here twice now and absolutely plan to come back. Stephanie takes obvious care in every inch of the place. It's quiet here, there are beautiful views, space to breathe and enjoy just BEING. Having a clean, well kept outhouse makes a huge difference here too. Highly highly recommend!

Adorable rustic cabin with obvious care taken in every corner. Lots of outdoor space in a beautiful setting. Note: The wood burning stove heats the indoor space very well! I was there at the end of September, but I don’t have any doubt it would be a great, cozy stay even in the dead of winter. As described, cell service is spotty, but you won’t care when you’re there. When you’re outside, you can hear the road noise, but if there’s any wind in all those leaves, you can’t.
The most bang for your travel buck you can get these days.
