1100 acres of gorgeous natural land at the headwaters of the Medina River. Crystal clear and clean spring feed water. Fourth-generation family owners. Remote camping. Very private with plenty of varied terrain for hiking swimming, tubing, biking or just hanging out in a hammock enjoying the breeze and peace and quiet. 

About 2 miles as a crow flies from Lost Maples State Park. You drive through a 13,000-acre ranch to get to us. We are at the end of a dead-end road with one way in and one way out. 

NO FISHING

As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around.

We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails.

There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful.

We have 1.5  miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch.

Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are--

2. Another my brother likes that has a cypress tree submerged you can sit on he calls the 1000 waterfalls

3.  big pond

Everfree Shire Ranch

Everfree Shire Ranch is an 11 acre estate nestled between quiet country houses and a very active horse ranch next door to the east.  Rescue horses are also kept on the property in rotation.  Much of the camping here is still a work in progress! So for now, a very private economical choice for campers!  The central building has indoor lodging available and the side bathroom with indoor toilet / washer / dryer may be used by campers as well. A new outdoor shower is 95% complete and usable but swimwear is required because we have not finished filling in the slots between the wood fence panels. 

The RV Dump station is also ready for use as well as the new outhouse!  If you forgot to dump on the way out or need to before arriving, please use the free dump stations on I-35 near Natalia on either side of the highway.

There is a beautiful replica of a hobbiton table (especially awesome for Lord of the Rings fans!) that we enjoyed having dinner on. Of course our four legged baby had to join us for dinner of her own

Located on Ranch Road 1120, 5 minutes north of Garner State Park our property is the public access point for tubers and kayakers to jump in and float to Happy Hollow, Garner State Park, Neal's or Andy's. Rio Frio is 10 minutes south of Leakey and 10 minutes north of Concan away from lights and lots of noise. We embrace the Dark Sky pledge for stargazers seeking to enjoy the night sky, the Leave It Better pledge, ask that you Don't Mess with Texas, and ask that you treat others as you want to be treated.

We have firewood available at discounted rates for larger bundles than stores. We please ask that you respect all wildlife as we are in process of becoming a monarch sanctuary. There are many types of birds, butterflies, axis and whitetail deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, armadillos, and fish. No hunting and please have your fishing license.

Tom and Rhonda Fousek opened "A Peace of Heaven Log Cabins" in 2003.  We love camping, RVing, and the outdoors and wanted to give families the same adventure we have had in the Texas Hill Country with the comfort of home.

VISIT POPEYE:
Crystal City is the “World Spinach Capital”. On March 26, 1937, Crystal City erected a Statue to pay tribute to Popeye which was sanctioned by the creator of Popeye, E. C. Segar.  To show his appreciation, Segar drew a special cartoon with Popeye, Olive Oyl and Wimpy coming to the Crystal City Spinach Festival.

During World War II, the United States created a system of internment camps for resident aliens from Japan as well as American citizens of Japanese descent. However, what’s not generally known is that some Germans and Italians were targeted as well. Crystal City was the site of the largest German internment camp in the nation.

Zavala County is one of the best hunting areas in the State for Whitetail, Wild Turkey, Wild Hog, Mourning & Whitewing Dove, Quail and several species of Exotics (Axis, Blackbuck & Aoudad Sheep).

There is a Walmart and an HEB just about 15 minutes away in Hondo, TX if needed. 

Steel Reel City

Easy access spots, small ghost town to check out and take photos if you would like.  Only a minute from town. 50 amp hookups. Water and restroom in the ghost town.  Washer and dryer in restroom. I stumbled across this awesome place just before covid shut us all down.  It was hidden in the middle of overgrown brush and not visible from the street.  That didn't matter, it was love at first sight!  We tried to come on the weekends and work on clearing but it wasn't enough so we moved out here last year and have made it not only a home but a fun place to live and share with others.   

Neuces River Camp Retreat

Very peaceful and secluded camp site with access to the Nueces river. Enjoy a fire pit and seating with an open fire grill for bbq grilling on site . Property does have fresh water on site. No electricity or sewer hookups. Site has very mature trees with a great view of the sky for star gazing at night.  Large clearings are great for child's play and recreation.

Camp Cold Springs is a newly renovated RV park situated on 14 acres along the Frio river with approximately 450 feet of Frio river frontage. Located 2 miles north of Garner State Park at 1101 Cold Spring Ranch Rd Concan, TX, we offer 50 full hookup RV sites with 30 and 50-amp connections available at every site. We have pull-through and back-in sites that either live in the shade or soak up the sun. There are two private river access points on the property for guests that lead you down to the cool, refreshing, gorgeous Frio River. Alongside the river, you will notice our spring-fed pond where many of our junior campers enjoy fishing. The river frontage at Camp Cold Springs is perfect for all ages with easy access walking down to the river. We have a large, generally flat, shallow area that is great for little ones to roam around or guests that enjoy lounging in the refreshing Frio waters. The rock island is enjoyed by our more adventurous guests that like to take an aerial approach into the river, while on the southern part of our river, guests enjoy the 2-4 foot deep swimming areas of the river.
