Matt grew up here swimming, fishing and exploring in this creek...the creek has taught him more about life than anyone ever could. I hope that you too can understand why we always walk alway feeling like this is a very special spot!     The property borders a small creek and has abundant trees, and wildlife. Beautiful views from every vantage with a high field on one half of the property and a low bottom land near the creek where there are many options for a relaxing, private stay. Chose big sky or a more secluded spot. Incredible wildflowers on display in the spring. The property is not bordered by close neighbors or dense housing, just more land so sunsets and rises are wonderful and open. Low ambient light pollution at night means the stars are very bright (and so are the fireflies)! Guests are required to communicate estimated time of arrival well in advance. When arriving, make sure to meet Aaron or a designate at the red gate before entering further into the property. If tent camping, please do not bring glass containers, also you must pack out all garbage and waste. Inquire ahead of time to see if firewood is available to be gathered on site, or if you will need to bring your own. No uninvited guests without 24 hour prior approval, and additional guest fees paid. Also please no more than one dog per site.

Please make sure to completely put fire out when done. There are 6 acres and you are welcome to camp anywhere you like, in the open areas or in the woody areas in the back. We have a RV barn area that can be used for shade, sitting, eating, relaxing, etc. You can use the tables and chairs. There is also a white water container on the table that you can use for washing. There is a 32 gallon trash bucket that you can put trash in but make sure lid is closed when you're done to keep animals out. This site does not have electric power or running water so please plan accordingly. There is currently not a toilet available but I'm planning on building a composting toilet soon. For now, use the natural way and make sure to bury. For security, there is one camera on the property located near the front entrance. It is mainly for monitoring the front entrance area. This site can also be used for long term parking/storing your RV or vehicle but we are not liable for anything that happens. If interested, please contact me or use the app called "Neighbor". The RV barn currently already has a RV inside it so that parking space can't be used.     This cedar cabin was built in the late 1950's and was the first building in Birch Creek Subdivision and was used as the real estate office when selling land for Subdivision. Joy Moore bought this fixer-upper in 1986 when the oilfield went under, at a youngster in her early twenties and has owned ever since. Lake Somerville is known for the best fishing lake in Texas. Deer run plentiful on the property and will come up close and personal when fed corn. So, stop and pick up a sack or two of deer corn before arrival. The closest city is about a 20 minute drive to Somerville so make sure to have everything you need before camping. Learn more about this land: Pitch your tent or stay in cozy cabin with accommodations like home, including wifi and tv. Private pond with firepit near Lake Somerville. Joy Moore bought this fixer-upper in 1986 when the oilfield went under, at a youngster in her early twenties and has owned ever since. Lake Somerville is known for the best fishing lake in Texas. Deer run plentiful on the property and will come up close and personal when fed corn. So, stop and pick up a sack or two of deer corn before arrival. The closest city is about a 20 minute drive to Somerville so make sure to have everything you need before camping. Learn more about this land: Pitch your tent or stay in cozy cabin with accommodations like home, including wifi and tv. Private pond with firepit near Lake Somerville.     Great property just a short trip from Houston. We were met at the entrance by the property manager and he gave us a quick tour. Public restroom and shower to use if needed and free range to explore most of the property. Scenic prairie views and the campsites had a table set up with a fire ring already.

    Easy to find, site 19 was pretty secluded. Everything was clean, Julie was super friendly and helpful. The whole 5D Ranch was very pretty, with a water feature and even boats available to use. There was a nice bathroom at the entrance to the campsite area that even had a shower. Everything was great!

    William and Dawn were so helpful and welcoming! They ensured I had everything I needed and showed me to my spot. I was solo tent camping with three dogs and we had a great time by the pond. They even let me use the row boat! I was the only visitor that weekend, but all the camp spots were spaced very far apart offering great privacy. What a beautiful 300 acres near the river- we’ll definitely be back. 🏕️

    Absolutely lovely! This family is the definition of hospitality! They go out of their way to make your stay special. I realized we did not have enough firewood, and this sweet family hand delivered some logs to our campsite! Gorgeous and peaceful property. The camp sites are spread out, even though other campers were there, we felt like we had the place to ourselves. My kids asked if we could come back every year, now we have a new family tradition! Some very special lifelong family memories were made during our stay!

    This is my first time camping (site 6) and this place absolutely has made me want to do camping much more frequently. This site provided a blend of cozying up in the wood but still has a nice and open area. The view and nature are beautiful but still has the convenience of the restroom of your home. The lake was nice to do some rowing despite the hot days of Texas.

    I booked the grades but due to high brush we were recommended the area near the pond. Despite the heat I had an amazing time. The pond had some nice sized fish, I'm not really sure what they are called but there's variety. There is alot of see weed so we caught that most of the time. I did add firewood and an extra tent but there was no firewood until the day after we checked in. But it wasn't a big issue the first night, we got approval to use any deadwood we find. The bathroom had an infestation of what looked like wasp, but we were relived to find they were wasp like but not exactly, they don't sting, either way it was taken care of afterwards. The heat was pretty hot midday and I was tempted into going in the pond to cool off, but with the amount of seaweed I didn't want to risk my feet getting tangled. We were able to walk the property as we were the only ones there the first 2 days and I will definitely be coming back in the cooler months and trying out the forested areas deep in the property, I wish we were able to get to the river. Maybe next time. All in all it was a great experience with a few hiccups but the warden was very amicable and responded in a timely manner on our concerns. Plus he had a cute little puppy with the most gorgeous eyes.

    Overview

    Just an hour from downtown, the riverside suburb of San Felipe makes a strategic spot from which to explore the Houston region. Campers will find a choice of RV parks around town, but the most scenic spot to camp is the Stephen F. Austin State Park on the banks of the Brazos River. Dive into Texas history at the San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site, enjoy forest hikes and bike rides in the 437-acre park, and admire kites and warblers along the riverfront. There’s even an 18-hole golf course right next door. 

    Where to go

    North Houston

    Houston’s northern suburbs are hemmed in by a green belt of state parks, lakes, and national forests. Camp, hike, and fish at Lake Conroe or Huntsville State Park, explore the sprawling Sam Houston National Forest, or continue north into the adjoining Lake Livingston State Park. Closer to the city, Lake Houston is a popular recreation ground, and you can camp at the lakeside Wilderness Park

    Camping is possible year-round in San Felipe, but spring and fall bring the most pleasant weather. Summers are scorching in Texas, with daily temperatures averaging 94°F and high humidity—you might want to rethink hiking and tent camping and take your RV to the riverside instead. Migrating birds pass through the Stephen F. Austin State Park in spring and fall, while forest hiking is most scenic against the colorful backdrop of autumn leaves.

    Know before you go

    • There are no public transport links to Houston, so you’ll need your own way to get to and around San Felipe. 
    • San Felipe has a selection of shops where you can purchase groceries, camping gear, and fishing supplies. Pick up everything you need in town before heading out to Stephen F. Austin State Park.
    • Most Texas State Parks require reservations for both day passes and campgrounds, and fishing permits are often required.
