From our parking area, our private campsite is a short walk (3-4 minutes) across pasture and wooded trail and empties on to a level forest understory ideal for your hammock or tent. Our campsite is equipped with the necessities: a firepit with a removable grill, a table, your own private outhouse, and unlimited sights and sounds of nature.
Trails leading from the campsite will usher you short distances to one of our best stargazing hilltops, down to the shallow creek running along the campsite trail, through shaded forests and ridgetop views. Our pond, a short 7 minute hike, offers fishing, swimming or simply relaxing on the dock. The Viking longhall has been 9 years in the making by a group of semi serious Viking enthusiasts: the result is a 60 foot long building that has 18, 8,x4' sleeping berths. Set apart from the main open area it also boasts 2 meeting rooms and a kitchen.
The campsite is a very peaceful place. Some go as far as to say a healing place! We are proud of what we have achieved and now want people to come out and enjoy it also.
The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience, but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. Located in Boyd County, Ky (less than two miles from US 23), our 50 acres are on a one-lane, dead end road which makes for a peaceful, quiet night’s sleep under the stars and amongst the trees.
Our sites are completely primitive (no running water, no electricity, no sewer) hike-in or 4WD accessible only, in several locations on the hills behind our residence. Potable water (2.6 gallons in a jug with spout) and portable toilet in privacy tent, or shelter, provided. *Permanent privacy shelter on two out of four sites*
All sites are ideal for tent campers, overlanding-style rigs, or possibly a small, off- road trailer/camper, with fire ring and firewood provided at each site. You will have access to all trails (for hiking only) and shared access to the fishing pond (Catch and Release only at this time). There are plenty of trees for shade, hammocks, etc. There is also an abundance of wildlife: Birds, deer, turkeys, rabbits, squirrels, bobcats, coyotes, and even an occasional black bear.
Large firepit at pond for socializing, if desired (Quiet time from 10pm to 8am as a courtesy to other campers).

The hosts were extemely gracious, responsive and accomodating. We have quite a bit of equipment and they were super helpful with getting all of it to and from the site. The property is beautiful. The site is private and spacious. We have a very large tent and we had plenty of room to stretch out. The camp was quiet and relaxing. We highly reccomend the geocache map and trails. They take you all over the peoperty. The trails are well maintained and marked. We loved walking the property and seeing the sheep and wildlife. Of course, the highlight was meeting the dogs. Especially watching Scout chase butterflies.

Weekend Trip to The Viking Longhall
Our stay at the Viking Longhall was wonderful! We stayed with a small group of friends and, lucky for us, we basically had the place to ourselves for the weekend. We played in the creek and spent time around the fire. It's a really chill environment, and especially fun for a bunch of ren faire/DnD nerds like ourselves!
We had the Creekside Cottage and our friends were in the Yurt. Both shelters were awesome. They provide tons of options for cooking and all the little things you might forget. My only regret is that we only had a few days! The grounds and Longhall are truly something to behold. Hearing about the history of the place made it even cooler! We can't wait to go back!
Super close to Serpent Mound, also closeby are other sacred Native American sites, hiking areas and state parks, and more. Thanks, Dave, for the hospitality! Can't wait to meet Iveagh too next time!

Weekend Trip to Woody Acres
We had an amazing stay at Woody Acres. We stayed in the Hickory Hut while our friends stayed in the Peppermint Patty Wagon, and both accommodations were thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed. From comfortable bedding and extra linens to cooking supplies, serving ware, and other little incidentals, it was clear the hosts put a lot of care into anticipating guests' needs.
The property is absolutely beautiful and truly feels like an immersive nature retreat. The nature-inspired décor is intentionally curated, with so many personal touches that make each space feel warm and unique. We also appreciated that Woody Acres is dog-friendly, making it easy to bring our pups along for the adventure.
Kate and Austin were wonderful hosts—kind, communicative, and available whenever we needed them while still giving guests plenty of privacy. One of the highlights of our trip was joining them for a plant identification walk. It was incredibly informative, engaging, and gave us an even greater appreciation for the property and the surrounding landscape.
The mowed walking trails throughout the property were perfect for exploring, and the beautifully landscaped sites offer plenty of privacy between campers. The outdoor composting toilet and shower were both very clean and only a short walk from our hut.
We also loved how close Woody Acres is to the Hocking Hills attractions, making it easy to enjoy the area's hiking options.

Came to Margie’s property for a family trip to Hocking Hills. We stayed at Site 3 on the ridge and camped the weekend. It was a fantastic stay, 10/10 recommend! Site 3 was at the very top with only one way up so we had total privacy and no worries of people driving by. The site was clear, had 2 tables and a very nice fire pit. Margie also had firewood waiting for us. Site 3 was a 4x4/AWD required site and agreed it is needed for a trouble free drive up. For reference, I drove up in my Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude. From base camp up to site 3 was roughly 242ft of elevation gain. The average incline up was 8-12 degrees with the steepest portion being 20 degrees. Loose rock and dirt so when dry, we had no problems climbing up. Had we been in the rain or post-rain storm, I would have been a little worried without proper tires. It was a very fun climb up, the family loved it. There was a pit toilet very close to site, a portapotty another 100ft down and a toilet/shower down at the base. Margie was very friendly when we met and was very responsive with directions and checking in. The camp site was roughly 12-15min from Hocking Hills which made things perfect for us. All in all, highly recommend!

Awesome hipcamp! Location was super easy to find— maps took us right to the well-marked campsites. The Hickory Hut was adorable and well stocked with camping essentials should anyone forget to bring along matches, bug spray, etc. The outdoor shower and toilet were both clean and functional, and both were only a very short walk from the cabin. AC works well, and even on a toasty night the cabin stayed nice and cool in the evening. Thank you Kate and Austin (and Rubeus!) for a great stay!

Group trip
Another wonderful getaway at the Longhall. The grounds were wonderful, even though the weather was hot. The creek made for a great spot to stay cool, and David made sure we were able to keep the inside of the longhall cool and comfortable.
Another unforgettable experience for our group. We can't wait to come back!

With kids
We would camp here again!
With kids, we felt we had everything we needed between the firepit, shelter, and outhouse. The shelter gave us confidence to camp despite rain in the forecast. There is ground both under and outside of the shelter that is level enough for a tent. Close to Lake Hope and hiking for activities, but also plenty of space to enjoy many hours on the campsite.
This site is clean, well-kept, and quiet.

Weekend Trip to Woody Acres
we LOVED staying here. you can tell a lot of thoughtfulness and passion went into this site, and kate and austin were both very kind! also LOVED their kitty, he alone is worth every penny. Thank you both and we will definitely be back again, we’ve been eyeballing the bus you can rent since we got there:)
