California, Ohio is a community on the Ohio River about a twenty minute drive upstream from Cincinnati. Actually the eastern-most neighborhood of Cincinnati, it has it's own small town or quaint village atmosphere. Safe, flat, scenic and walkable, California boasts several dining experiences, one a brewery, and quite a variety of recreational experiences. Riverbend, a music venue in season, is a mile away, possible walking distance, as is Belterra, a race track and casino. The bike trail is a few blocks away and connects to all the other area bike trails including the Loveland Bike Trail along the Wild and Scenic Little Miami River. A local nature preserve, California Woods, offers hiking and nature programs, and there is even the California Golf Course. If watching baseball leagues play games is your cup of tea, there is a large sports complex with ball fields in California. A town park with trees and large, grassy open spaces and small playground is a few blocks away. Bring your game of horse shoes, corn hole, a frisbee to throw, your skateboard, golf cart, or some bikes just to cruise around and take in the scenery. Nearby, and right the Wild and Scenic Little Miami River is Armleder Park, also with walking and biking trails which also connect to the 5 mile loop around Lunken Airport. I have two properties which offer two different kinds of camping, which I have itemized separately in the Hipcamp listings. RV Campers will park on the upper level at the Panama Street address , and have one set of amenities. It is a short walk lead down to the Ohio River where there is a small patio with table and chairs overlooking the river. Tent campers set up their tents right beside the river and have a different set of amenities, as itemized on this website. It's an unusual set up, as perhaps Hipcamper spots often are. It is interesting and relaxing to watch the barges and pleasure boats go by. On one hand I feel like I am in the middle of nowhere when I am on these (small, very not fancy) properties by the river. On the other, there are planes, trains, barges and pleasure boats, and motorcycles passing by at times. The River can be mesmerizing and serene, shimmering in the western sun, or busy with weekend pleasure boats and barge traffic. Take a walk around town, then sit by the river and watch the boats go by. Relax, set up your grill and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Ohio River. Perfect for river rats. Downtown Cincinnati is 15 or 20 minutes away with no traffic, and there are two or three ways to get there. There is a lot to do in Cincinnati. My place in California is just a few minutes from the I 275 exit.

Our beautiful 1800’s cabin was moved to the property in the 1970’s by a former neighbor who owned the property at the time. The same neighbor also had a historic train depot moved to the property where she sold antiques out of for several years. It is not sure what the cabin was used for at that time but it certainly added charm to the antique store property. When we acquired the property years later, the cabin was in need of work. It sat for a few years until we decided to restore this lovely cabin back to it’s beautiful charm and character. Jim spent a couple years on the project working in his free time and added the porch using old wood in keeping with the natural look and feel of the cabin as well as some interior areas. Upon completion, we opened the cabin as a gift shop selling unique items including antiques, primitives and decor for a few years. We decided to transition the cabin into a place of retreat for traveling guests and still keep some of the goods we sold in the shop available for purchase. We hope that you find the cabin and property a place of peace and tranquility and will want to return. Whether passing through for a night or a few days stay, you’re always welcome in our neck of the woods. Learn more about this land: Make a stop back in time to our quiet woodland retreat with an updated 1800’s log cabin nestled on the property. At Cabin and Company, you will be parked beside this beautiful cabin and will be allowed access at your leisure for a place to sit and relax. (No overnight sleeping allowed inside) Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea (provided) while watching tv or on our covered porch outside. You may also select a movie or two from our large selection of DVDs or find a book to read among our stash of books. Play cards, engage in one of the other games provided, or just sit in the quiet of it all and rest your mind. There is a golf chipping area as well as basketball. We have WIFI at our residence on the adjacent property and some areas of the camp will pick it up better than others. There is a fire ring on site with an adjustable grate for cooking and plenty of seasoned firewood available.. We will have a few items available for purchase inside the cabin including local honey (when available) apple butter, coffee, hand crafted walking sticks and you won’t want to leave without some of these goodies. This semi secluded property is a gem and we hope you will enjoy this piece of history as much as we do. You may see wildlife such as whitetail deer and of course, there are plenty of birds and squirrels around. 2 acres with a 1/4 acre fishing pond, stocked with Channel Cat, Crappie, Bluegill and Bass. Although the catfish have eaten everyone out of house and home. I have a few sites available, or set up where you want. A large fire ring area is available. You can fish, you can eat your catch or keep a few. If chicken eggs are available I will make them available to campers. You can visit the chickens and feed the catfish. These are tent sites and you may have to park your vehicle and walk to set up. Firewood is available for use at the site. We are close to several kayaking rental places along the Little Miami River, Morrow and Morgan's are close by. This would be a good spot to tent camp during the famous Todd's Fork Revival Festival in July as we are just 5 minutes from the site. I will probably be going! Mostly surrounded by a horse farm, so you may have an opportunity to see some horses out in the fields next door. Food, gas, etc. is available within 5 mins into town. Peaceful and one great place to see the stars. Sites are first come first serve on location.

We loved camping on Martha and her husband’s land. They greeted us upon arrival and her husband showed us back to our site, which was perfect! He also made sure we had enough firewood. Our girls (4&6) and our German Shepherd had a BLAST! There was a perfect spot to pitch our tent and set up our solo stove. We brought a pop up tent for shade as other reviews said the site is pure sun, so we were prepared for that and it really is a good idea to bring something for shade. The site is right on the creek which we all loved. If you venture down the creek far enough each way, you will come across some deeper spots that are good for swimming so bring life jackets or floaties for small kiddos. We brought one tube and could float nicely in some areas. There’s so many little streams and flowing little “waterfall” areas that our girls loved playing in. Our dog Nash loved being able to run free and explore the fields and water. As other reviews have mentioned, there is a train close by and the road is fairly close but we were having so much fun and were so tired once we went to bed, that we barely even noticed the noise. We felt very safe here which is big for me with our small girls. We would 10/10 recommend and we plan on coming back! Thanks Martha & Dave!

I can’t say enough good about the whole experience!! The hosts were awsome people!! So happy they’ve opened their land up to share with others! It was a beautiful experience all the way around! They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed to make our stay as easy, fun and comfortable as possible in return we added a few amenities to our campsite lol built some steps to get safely down to the creek, which was amazing and a nice fire pit to share We will definitely be going back one of my very favorite places ever. !!

Loved the spot. Was a bit hard to find-GPS doesn't tell you that you have to turn right on Opposum Road again to find the entrance. Next issue is recognizing that this is RIGHT NEXT TO a traditional RV campground. Even the host's personal instructions were a bit unclear. If you go left at the second "fork," as directed, you end up in the campground. What they call a first fork I would call a 90 degree right turn. When we came in at 8 pm, the couple who came to greet us in a golf cart asked if we were looking for the campground and we respondeded yes, thinking they meant Hipcamp. Very confusing. Once you get there, it's beautiful.

Like other reviews said, if you want direct water access it would be best to stay at site 2 or 3. Would love to come here again!

I loved spending a weekend tent camping at this little piece of heaven only an hour from downtown Cincinnati! There was so much green and wildflowers along the campsites, along with the night sky being so clear due to being away from most light pollution. My dog was happy to be off leash and by the water! Martha took time to show me around when I arrived, along with her husband checking in towards the end of the day. I felt very safe and welcomed! I look forward to another trip soon ☀️ Very helpful and responsive hosts!!

This property was the original location of Todd’s Fork Bluegrass Festivals back in the 70’s and is directly on Todd’s Fork with 1/2 mile of River frontage. We reside within the Village of Morrow, walking distance to restaurants and stores. The little Miami Bike Trail is approximately 1/4 mile from our entrance. This property is tucked away and you wouldn’t even know you’re close to town once you’re on site. Valley Vineyards is right down the road to enjoy a bottle of wine and cook your own steak dinner nights. Take a trip to visit Fort Ancient with a day hike. A Native American earthworks complex, the largest hilltop enclosure in the world and soon to be a World Heritage site! Enjoy some canoeing on the Little Miami River a State and National scenic river which is within walking distance. We have kayaks on location for the kids to play in the creek and creeks to hike with numerous fossils deposits. Southwestern Ohio is famous for its Ordovician fossil deposits. Kings Island is approximately 20 minute drive and the Ohio renaissance Festival is near. Caesars creek state park in Cowan lake state park is within a short drive. Smallmouth Bass fishing is awesome on Todd’s Fork and we have plenty of area to Wade fish.

Nice secluded campsites with lots of space and privacy. Fire wood available for $5 for a bundle or you can bring your own, also have excellent cell phone service unlike most state parks in the area. Picnic tables, fire pits and water available and also have a portable idc tote so we can fill your tank at any site. 30 amp and 20 amp outlets at rv sites 1, 2 and 3. Brookville Lake is about 5 minutes away. We have 25 acres with about 3 wooded acres with over 100 sugar maple trees and about 20 acres of flat grass fields plenty of room to hike, just keep in mind we have one horse that is fenced in so please close gates back when you open them. We mow trails for hiking feel free to explore, if you run into a cornfield it's not our property. Att has excellent service at 94mbps download and 11mbps upload, Verizon is good at 36mbps Download and 5mbps upload. We have an outhouse for tent campers And water is available by campsite 1 and we have portable idc tote with city water. We also have 3 indoor/outdoor cats, they like to visit the campground. Direction: Please use SR 44 to country road 450 and go north and take a right at 4 way stop on to Springersville Road and we are about a quarter mile down the road on the left. If chicken eggs are available I will make them available to campers. You can visit the chickens and feed the catfish. These are tent sites and you may have to park your vehicle and walk to set up. Firewood is available for use at the site. We are close to several kayaking rental places along the Little Miami River, Morrow and Morgan's are close by. This would be a good spot to tent camp during the famous Todd's Fork Revival Festival in July as we are just 5 minutes from the site. I will probably be going! Mostly surrounded by a horse farm, so you may have an opportunity to see some horses out in the fields next door. Food, gas, etc. is available within 5 mins into town. Peaceful and one great place to see the stars. Sites are first come first serve on location.

Pack your essentials and escape to the Little Miami River Valley's best kept secret. Our off-grid cabin and tent campsite is situated on 14 acres along the National and Scenic Little Miami River. The cabin is included in the site rental, offering the flexibility to bring your own mattress/bedding or have it provided as an add-on. Once here, you'll park near the farmhouse and take a 4 minute hike over the creek, through the meadow, and into the woods. *Driving to the site is an option if you have 4WD and the ground is not too wet. Exceptions for 2WD can be made if the weather forecast and ground conditions permit. As you approach the cabin and campsite, the trail opens up to an acre of green space shaded by large Sycamore, Walnut, and other native trees. Take a dip in the river, enjoy people watching as canoeist pass, or take part with a canoe or kayak rental from a nearby business (within 3 miles). The Little Miami Trail is also less than a mile down the road so bring your bike! The composting outhouse is serviced between each stay, meaning it's emptied, sanitized, and like new for each new guest. *Depending on your group size, the host may need to service/empty the outhouse once daily. There are two established campfire locations and a picnic table is provided. *This is a family residence. The hosts live onsite and although you will not see them from your site, you will likely hear kids/adults playing outside and possibly weekend tasks such as mowing/weed eating/etc. Other "noise pollution" may come from canoeists passing by or the gun/ATV riding club which is a 1/4 mile down the river. Next door to this property is a BP Station and Carryout. The Loves Truckstop has a Wendys, Subway, and dog park. Sheets also has a food court. All within walking distance. Great location as Columbus is 30 min to the east, Dayton is 25 min to the west. 13 min to I 675 and 20 min to Interstate 75 N/S. I 71 N/S Columbus is 35 min away in downtown Columbus... NOTE: Little over a quarter of a mile off of Interstate 70, and on a State Route, If looking for absolute silence and desolation, this is not for you. Back off of the road but all the sounds carry.....

Recently a camper got stuck in the meadow due to rain/mud (which is why we do not allow RVs or trailers). 2) We are still building a compost toilet so the option on the property now is to dig a cat hole at least 6" deep. There is an open public toilet in Yellow Springs and several businesses with open bathrooms. 3) The campsite is right off of Route 68. You cannot see cars from the site but you can hear them. The amount of noise from cars is lower at night. 4) The meadow is ideal for tent camping, though it is NOT a built campsite so it is not perfectly level throughout.

This secluded off-grid cabin and camping site sits on the back of a 5-acre family property and borders an 11-acre green space. This private site is approximately 1-acre and has its own driveway. The atmosphere is peaceful and private, and there are no houses or campsites nearby. The cabin has a small solar set up with lights, fans, a composting toilet, and charging capabilities. In addition to the cabin, there are plenty of great tent sites on the property. (Tents are available for rent) The shops, restaurants, and outdoor activities of Yellow Springs are a little over a mile and a half from the campsite. Enjoy all the village has to offer during the day, and retire to your private 1-acre campsite and relax while watching an incredible sunset or a late night bonfire. (We supply the wood!) Great for families, couples, and friend groups all ages. Green friendly. Party friendly! For gatherings larger than 6 adults, contact for pricing and packages.
