Turkey Hollow is nestled in the rolling hills of Holmes County Ohio. We are right on the edge of the largest Amish settlement in the nation. The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 13 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. He enjoys traveling in many places in the States and the Caribbean islands and loves finding places off of the beaten path and not commercialized. Because of his interest and love for primitive camping he decided to open the campground in order to provide the same opportunity as a getaway primitive camping location that he tries to find when he travels.
We now just added a shower in the trees, warm water rinse off area. (this is available between Memorial Day and until it get too cold again in the fall)

The Flying J Farm is 250 beautiful rolling acres including 100 acres of forest, 6-acre lake small pond, three streams, and numerous fields for crops and pastures with cows. The owner bought the farm in 1998 for his retirement from a faculty position at the Ohio State university. Two buildings, the farm house and old barn, are original dating back to 1831. These have been restored for current use. The mission of the farm is to restore health both in people though the products produced and in the land by farming in a sustainable way with no conventional chemicals, antibiotics, and use of GMO. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables.
The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner.
Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures).
Trash. This sustainable farm has no garbage hauling, please carry away your trash.

Easily pitch your tent in an open field or trek through the hills and hollows to find your perfect campsite.As part of Ohio's famous Hocking Hills Region, Vinton County is home to the second largest state forest, in addition to multiple state parks and wildlife areas. You’ll encounter abandoned historical sites and relics dating back to the early 1800s, hidden away among the wooded hills of Ohio’s least populated county. If you're a lover of outdoor recreation, this is the place to be. Within about a half-hour drive, there are many opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, kayaking, hunting and fishing, and birding. Nearby parks and forests include Hocking Hills State Park, Hocking Hills State Forest, Lake Hope State Park, Zaleski State Forest, the Moonville Rail Trail, Lake Alma State Park, Tar Hollow State Forest, and more!Set up camp wherever you like! There are 12 acres of open field space, surrounded by 50 acres of wooded hills and hollows with hiking trails and level spots to pitch tents. Vehicles can be driven to the field sites; we are still working on a road to access the hill sites by vehicle. The fields have about a dozen "permanent" sites with stone or metal fire rings and log seating. Portable fire rings are also available that can be moved anywhere. Dead wood for campfires is free to gather, or split firewood is available to purchase for $5/bundle. A toilet and solar shower are located at the center of the property. An outdoor water spigot is also available. Guests are expected to follow the "Leave No Trace" principles. Any trash packed onto the property must be bagged and taken with you.

Leftovers of an abandoned mine give Lake Hope State Park its rustic charm, where a nearly 3,000-acre lake provides ample opportunity for outdoor fun in the sun. Seven hiking paths and eight biking trails mean you'll have multiple chances to discover the steep gorges that characterize this densely forested area. Hunt in the adjacent Zaleski State Forest or catch some crappie or bluegill in the expansive lake for some fresher than fresh dinner. We bought this 125+ year old farm in 2010 with the hope of bringing it back to life. Overgrown and neglected, we have worked hard to make it a nice place for hiking, kayaking, fishing or any number of other activities. Peaceful and remote, the property has a beautiful brook that leads you to the South branch of the Portage river. Deer, turkey, geese, herons, mink and fox are just a few of our natural animal friends. Rusty the steer and his pony friends Lexi and Little Bits can be visited while they graze in the pasture or as they rest at the barn. There are chickens and Brindle the barn kitty. We have the perfect place for dogs as well. We have five dogs of our own that get along great with others and our fenced pond keeps them safe. We allow kayaking on the pond when our dogs are inside. But fishing has been restricted due to unfortunate incidents. Hiking trails, crisscross the properties on both sides of the road. We’ve added 8 acres across the creek to the south of the barn bringing our total to 16 acres for you to wander freely. The trails are being developed and some are dead ends. Be cautious to stay on the trails as there are many nasty plants off of the trails. No open toed shoes should be worn, as poison ivy as present pretty much everywhere. A guided tour is available when available. We also provide Firewood and kayaks and animal interactions for fees. ESV is help us pay for our animal upkeep, including food, Vet bills, and Ferrier fees. We appreciate all donations made to that cause. Our future development will include Rusty‘s Barn. Which will be a music/wedding venue. That would be located in the upstairs of the barn.

McKee Farm is rich in memories and rich in history. It has been in the family for over 150 years and we were told that it was one of stopping points for the underground railroad. The 240 acre farm boasts a hidden cave, wide open fields, breathtaking forest land, and historic and rustic barns.
Nestled at the edge of a wooded creek, Tullihas in the Trees treehouse boasts a beautiful sunset view with rolling hills. Tullihas combines comfort with the thrill of being immersed in nature. Built using recycled electric poles, Tullihas in the Trees has a deck perfect for hammocking, an interior dressed with windows so that guests can feel as if they are living amongst the trees, and two small lofts ideal for a restful night's sleep.
Oxley in the Woods is our newest treehouse cabin. Nestled in the woods with a view of the sunset, the lovely A Frame is filled with lovely woodwork, vintage parquet flooring, and private wooded views. The deck is huge! We've had guests set up a tent on the deck beside the treehouse for fun! Swings, and a slide make the Oxley a fun adventure. The double bed in the loft and the two stacked single beds are comfortable and cozy.
The McKee Farmhouse was built in the 1800s and is rich in memories. It's a rustic old house, with wood trim, hardwood floors, and plenty of imperfections that make it unique. You can sit on the porch and drink your coffee with a view of the barn and pastures, or cozy up in one of the house's four bedrooms and sleep in. The house is fully air conditioned and heated, has all the amenities of home, but takes you back to a simpler time.
Our campsites are all set apart from one another in various locations on the 240 acre farm. Secluded and unique, each campsite has its own charm. We provide guests with a fire ring and a shovel, and some sites have a picnic table.
Hiking trails are marked throughout the land. Guests can hike with views of horses, cows, wildlife, corn fields, large boulders, and rustic barns. The dirt roads provide great places to drive ATVs and four-wheelers. An Amish farm borders McKee Farm. Guests should know there is minimal cell service, however, this can offer a great opportunity to unplug. Tullihas in the Trees provides a perfect remote and rustic getaway for anyone.
In October and November, access to hiking is limited.

You don't have to be an experienced fisherman to catch a fish in this pond! Swimming, kayaking, paddle boat, cornhole, small beach area for the little ones, and 2 acres of wooded trails for those who enjoy a peaceful walk. Wildlife is abundant and they prefer to be left alone. Please stay on the trails to preserve all vegetation. If you see a fawn or other babies, please do not touch these animals. Momma will be back! Campsites are located in the woods and are primitive. Sites include picnic table, fire pit, and trash can. Campers have access to a bathroom with a shower that is located in the basement of the cabin. All campers need to check-in with the on-site owners. All gear can be transported with a golf cart.

Mother Stewarts Brewing is located downtown as well as many great restaurants and shops.
Yellow Springs: With a bike trail that is part of a 360 mile paved system in southwest Ohio and 2000 acres of preserved woodland to the east, Yellow Springs is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. Explore over fifty small locally owned boutiques featuring one of a kind merchandise from handcrafted pottery to custom designed jewelry to designer shoes. A truly unique shopping experience.
Urbana: Nice small town with lots of shops and restaurants in the square. Freshwater Farms of Ohio is the largest indoor fish hatchery in the state of Ohio. Pick up some trout and check out the sturgeon petting zoo with the kiddos!
Dayton: It’s home to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, with a vast collection of aircraft from early 1900s planes to a space shuttle exhibit.

Pop's Place is a great place to stay! I car camped in one of the tent/RV sites and added on a bundle of firewood, which was very generous and thoughtfully placed at my site before I arrived. While my spot was next to the road, there was very little car traffic after 10 PM.
The property is extremely well maintained, and Ed and Michelle are just delightful people—so welcoming and friendly. The portable toilet and outdoor shower were absolutely spotless, and I loved the cute little touches in the décor.
I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend Pop's Place to anyone looking for a peaceful, well-kept place to camp!

After a ling day with lits of hills southbound on the OTET we hesitated going up one more big hill (about 300ft) but I’m so glad we did! Matt met us at the entrance and we asked him if he could help us down the long gravel driveway to the cabins. He was so nice he even offered to help us ladies back up in the morning. It rained the night we were there but we were cozy in the perfectly dry and well ventilated cabin. Simple, but perfect for us! The property was beautiful and Matt was so nice.

Very nice and peaceful camping spot. This spot is in the woods and fully shaded. Restroom is easy to walk to. Richard was friendly and came to check on us. The kids had a blast. I was hoping to see more stars at night but I think we were still too close to the city for that. Would definitely camp here again.

We had a wonderful time at site 6. Definitely one of the better campsites we have had. It is perfectly nestled in the woods with great views of the lake. A bit of a walk to the restroom but nothing excessive and worth it for the privacy. The host was very accommodating and responsive. Only downside was that the lake was overgrown with algae which made fishing and kayaking/canoeing difficult but there is a smaller pond on the property where my sons and I were able to catch many good sized fish.

We stayed at Rustry’s Retreat for our first camping trip and had a wonderful experience. Site #3 was spacious, peaceful, and surrounded by nature. Jay was very attentive and provided firewood, free kayaking, and a tour of his property. Overall, a great stay. We highly recommend it!

This Hipcamp was great. We only camped for 1 night and decided to stay inside the chapel instead of bringing a tent to keep things easy. The chapel itself would probably be hot if it’s over 85 during the day and we didn’t experience any rain to know if it’s water tight, but we were plenty comfortable and two screened windows allowed for airflow. Sites are spacious, even though neighboring sites are fairly close. The host responded quickly and was very nice. My 10 year old is already asking to come back 🙂

Richard's farm is beautiful and he kindly checks in on the campers each day to see if anything is needed. The off-grid cabin is a short walk from site 1 and has running water and a toilet, which I assume is a luxury for most Hipcamps (this was our first)! We had a great time fishing the smaller pond (maybe 0.5 mile from the sites along the driveway) and I appreciate that the sites are spaced out nicely.
The only downside for us was a lot of poison ivy on the edges of the site, but if you stay on dirt or grass it's easy enough to avoid; only mentioning in case anyone reading gets it badly and should avoid completely.

Weekend Trip to The Viking Longhall
Our stay at the Viking Longhall was wonderful! We stayed with a small group of friends and, lucky for us, we basically had the place to ourselves for the weekend. We played in the creek and spent time around the fire. It's a really chill environment, and especially fun for a bunch of ren faire/DnD nerds like ourselves!
We had the Creekside Cottage and our friends were in the Yurt. Both shelters were awesome. They provide tons of options for cooking and all the little things you might forget. My only regret is that we only had a few days! The grounds and Longhall are truly something to behold. Hearing about the history of the place made it even cooler! We can't wait to go back!
Super close to Serpent Mound, also closeby are other sacred Native American sites, hiking areas and state parks, and more. Thanks, Dave, for the hospitality! Can't wait to meet Iveagh too next time!

Weekend Trip to Woody Acres
We had an amazing stay at Woody Acres. We stayed in the Hickory Hut while our friends stayed in the Peppermint Patty Wagon, and both accommodations were thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed. From comfortable bedding and extra linens to cooking supplies, serving ware, and other little incidentals, it was clear the hosts put a lot of care into anticipating guests' needs.
The property is absolutely beautiful and truly feels like an immersive nature retreat. The nature-inspired décor is intentionally curated, with so many personal touches that make each space feel warm and unique. We also appreciated that Woody Acres is dog-friendly, making it easy to bring our pups along for the adventure.
Kate and Austin were wonderful hosts—kind, communicative, and available whenever we needed them while still giving guests plenty of privacy. One of the highlights of our trip was joining them for a plant identification walk. It was incredibly informative, engaging, and gave us an even greater appreciation for the property and the surrounding landscape.
The mowed walking trails throughout the property were perfect for exploring, and the beautifully landscaped sites offer plenty of privacy between campers. The outdoor composting toilet and shower were both very clean and only a short walk from our hut.
We also loved how close Woody Acres is to the Hocking Hills attractions, making it easy to enjoy the area's hiking options.
