Turkey Hollow is nestled in the rolling hills of Holmes County Ohio. We are right on the edge of the largest Amish settlement in the nation. The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 13 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. He enjoys traveling in many places in the States and the Caribbean islands and loves finding places off of the beaten path and not commercialized. Because of his interest and love for primitive camping he decided to open the campground in order to provide the same opportunity as a getaway primitive camping location that he tries to find when he travels.

The Flying J Farm is 250 beautiful rolling acres including 100 acres of forest, 6-acre lake small pond, three streams, and numerous fields for crops and pastures with cows. The owner bought the farm in 1998 for his retirement from a faculty position at the Ohio State university. Two buildings, the farm house and old barn, are original dating back to 1831. These have been restored for current use. The mission of the farm is to restore health both in people though the products produced and in the land by farming in a sustainable way with no conventional chemicals, antibiotics, and use of GMO. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables.
The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner.
Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures).
Trash. This sustainable farm has no garbage hauling, please carry away your trash.

We bought this 125+ year old farm in 2010 with the hope of bringing it back to life. Overgrown and neglected, we have worked hard to make it a nice place for hiking, kayaking, fishing or any number of other activities. Peaceful and remote, the property has a beautiful brook that leads you to the South branch of the Portage river. Deer, turkey, geese, herons, mink and fox are just a few of our natural animal friends. Rusty the steer and his pony friends Lexi and Little Bits can be visited while they graze in the pasture. There are chickens and Brindle the barn kitty. We have the perfect place for dogs as well. We have four dogs that get along great with others and our fenced pond keeps them safe. We allow kayaking in the pond when our dogs are inside. But fishing has been restricted due to unfortunate incidents.

Need some additional relaxation? Book a Reiki Healing at the Jug House next to the pond for an extra fee. Reiki is a Japanese stress reduction and relaxation technique that promotes healing. Contact your host for availability before booking the extra.
We also have the option to book all our sites for a 15-person retreat, with special extras only available for that booking, including a pavilion teepee tent.
Portable toilets are available, pets are welcome, and campfires are permitted.
Naturalist Isabelle H. Klein wrote a collection of letters from her home of Sawdust (named form the sawdust left by the loggers of the early 60’s) for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Explorer Magazine from the winter of 1969 to the summer of 1976.
They then were published as the book “Letters From Sawdust” by the Press of Case Western Reserve University for the Museum. It is a lyrical voyage through the seasons at the Sawdust Tract in Northeast Ohio. She details encounters with the wildlife of the area as well as the changing seasons and plant life. Reminiscent of Thoreau's writings about Walden.
In 1978 an additional house was moved onto the property from Sidley's gravel pit and joined with the existing Klein farmhouse. We decided to preserve almost 400 acres of the property with the help of the Western Reserve Land Conservatory for the Cleveland Museum Of Natural History, Natural Areas. Forest is home to the red-sided dace, and 10 rare species of birds, including cerulean warblers.
The original small family farm and surrounding woods we have retained are being restored and updated.
We are proud to call Sawdust home and would love to share it with you.

McKee Farm is rich in memories and rich in history. It has been in the family for over 150 years and we were told that it was one of stopping points for the underground railroad. The 240 acre farm boasts a hidden cave, wide open fields, breathtaking forest land, and historic and rustic barns.
Nestled at the edge of a wooded creek, Tullihas in the Trees treehouse boasts a beautiful sunset view with rolling hills. Tullihas combines comfort with the thrill of being immersed in nature. Built using recycled electric poles, Tullihas in the Trees has a deck perfect for hammocking, an interior dressed with windows so that guests can feel as if they are living amongst the trees, and two small lofts ideal for a restful night's sleep.
Oxley in the Woods is our newest treehouse cabin. Nestled in the woods with a view of the sunset, the lovely A Frame is filled with lovely woodwork, vintage parquet flooring, and private wooded views. The deck is huge! We've had guests set up a tent on the deck beside the treehouse for fun! Swings, and a slide make the Oxley a fun adventure. The double bed in the loft and the two stacked single beds are comfortable and cozy.
The McKee Farmhouse was built in the 1800s and is rich in memories. It's a rustic old house, with wood trim, hardwood floors, and plenty of imperfections that make it unique. You can sit on the porch and drink your coffee with a view of the barn and pastures, or cozy up in one of the house's four bedrooms and sleep in. The house is fully air conditioned and heated, has all the amenities of home, but takes you back to a simpler time.
Our campsites are all set apart from one another in various locations on the 240 acre farm. Secluded and unique, each campsite has its own charm. We provide guests with a fire ring and a shovel, and some sites have a picnic table.
Hiking trails are marked throughout the land. Guests can hike with views of horses, cows, wildlife, corn fields, large boulders, and rustic barns. The dirt roads provide great places to drive ATVs and four-wheelers. An Amish farm borders McKee Farm. Guests should know there is minimal cell service, however, this can offer a great opportunity to unplug. Tullihas in the Trees provides a perfect remote and rustic getaway for anyone.
In October and November, access to hiking is limited.

Would have loved for some covert way to put the instructions in the shower itself so I didn't need to bring my phone (my fail I have now broken it) but other than that, recommend parking further away from the street. Altenbrauch farm was mostly a dream spot. I happened to be the only one there and it was private, and quiet-- save for a few vehicles on the gravel road from time to time and their mowing. I had a shaded spot next to a shallow water course which was excellent given the heat.

FYI the camping is a little sloped (I care about this but had forgotten to check that off, in my searching). Luckily it wasn’t that sloped and was all good. Adam was super responsive and it was a beautiful site. Would recommend!

We had a wonderful time here. It was spacious and clean and peaceful. The directions from Google were accurate. Limited cell service on T-Mobile. The field was mowed and well cared for.
Bugs were moderate at night but we didn't notice any major issues with biting flies or mosquitoes. It was mostly just moths and gnats and the kinds that buzz around your head.
We were a little surprised/disappointed that there was not a dumpster or other waste disposal option available on site. We had to travel a fairly long distance with garbage bags on the car to "pack it out". Our particular campsite had lots of broken glass and aluminum cans in the fire pit that we had to cleanup and haul out.

The land is a beautiful piece of property! Our campsite was nice and spacious. We had plenty of room for our dogs and two large tents. The kids loved the river access. There's more campsites than I expected but they were nicely spaced. There was very little cell signal, so if you are looking to unplug, this is it. Would love to go again and take the kayaks out! Damyan was a great host!

I enjoy camping on Jay’s land. He offers you choice of site amongst 13 acres as well as use of a large covered deck, very clean private bath with a hot shower, microwave, and small fridge. The area is quiet and private and not far from interstate or town. I would stay again.

This was our first official camping trip of our adult lives. We setup our car tent and enjoyed a peaceful, relaxing time in the woods. We were camping in the middle of the week so there was only one other group, but the sites are spaced out enough that each group wouldn't interfere with each other's enjoyment.

What an amazing experience! We practically had the entire 100 acres of forest to ourselves. We could barely see another tent site—just a tiny speck of color through the trees, which was perfect because we weren’t looking to make friends anyway, haha. It was incredibly quiet and serene.
Site #7 came with a great picnic table and a fire pit. Just a heads-up for future campers: bring your own firewood, and definitely pack the citronella candles unless you want to donate blood to the local mosquito population.
The highlight was the morning commute back from the toilet cabin, where I was greeted by three different kinds of birds, a tiny chipmunk, and a bunny rabbit hopping along the trail. I felt like a Disney princess, minus the ballgown.
This place is absolute perfection for anyone who wants to ditch humanity for a night or two and truly enjoy nature. Highly recommend!!!

The host was very friendly and accommodating. Apple Maps brought us directly to the address. Cell signal is hit and miss. The driveway is steep so a 4 wheel drive vehicle would be best. Camp sites are all hillside. It was very quiet and we enjoyed the fireflies and solar powered lights that came on at dusk. Toilet facilities minimal but adequate.
It was completely overcast while we were there, but I imagine there are some really nice sky views when it isn’t.

This was a nice quiet site, we were not sure upon arrival as it’s close to the road. Some cars came by and waved as they did. The outdoor shower was great. Very peaceful and very warm water. We had a really good time. Anthony responded quickly to all my questions and gave some great advice on things to do and see.
