The Flying J Farm is 250 beautiful rolling acres including 100 acres of forest, 6-acre lake small pond, three streams, and numerous fields for crops and pastures with cows. The owner bought the farm in 1998 for his retirement from a faculty position at the Ohio State university. Two buildings, the farm house and old barn, are original dating back to 1831. These have been restored for current use. The mission of the farm is to restore health both in people though the products produced and in the land by farming in a sustainable way with no conventional chemicals, antibiotics, and use of GMO. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables.
The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner.
Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures).
Trash. This sustainable farm has no garbage hauling, please carry away your trash.

Our 26 acre, residential property, is a great year round destination to get back to nature. Located in the Hocking Hills are several state parks. Hocking Hills State Park Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls, Ash Cave, Whispering Pines, Conkles Hollow, and Rock House, and Tar Hollow are all within 10 miles. Turkey Hollow is nestled in the rolling hills of Holmes County Ohio. We are right on the edge of the largest Amish settlement in the nation. The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 13 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. He enjoys traveling in many places in the States and the Caribbean islands and loves finding places off of the beaten path and not commercialized. Because of his interest and love for primitive camping he decided to open the campground in order to provide the same opportunity as a getaway primitive camping location that he tries to find when he travels.
We now just added a shower in the trees, warm water rinse off area. (this is available between Memorial Day and until it get too cold again in the fall)

Naturalist Isabelle H. Klein wrote a collection of letters from her home of Sawdust (named form the sawdust left by the loggers of the early 60’s) for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Explorer Magazine from the winter of 1969 to the summer of 1976.
They then were published as the book “Letters From Sawdust” by the Press of Case Western Reserve University for the Museum. It is a lyrical voyage through the seasons at the Sawdust Tract in Northeast Ohio. She details encounters with the wildlife of the area as well as the changing seasons and plant life. Reminiscent of Thoreau's writings about Walden.
In 1978 an additional house was moved onto the property from Sidley's gravel pit and joined with the existing Klein farmhouse. We decided to preserve almost 400 acres of the property with the help of the Western Reserve Land Conservatory for the Cleveland Museum Of Natural History, Natural Areas. Forest is home to the red-sided dace, and 10 rare species of birds, including cerulean warblers.
The original small family farm and surrounding woods we have retained are being restored and updated.
We are proud to call Sawdust home and would love to share it with you.

This small farm is 7 acres of the original 25 my great grandmother purchased for her family in 1934. Guests can enjoy the cabin as well as the barn and surrounding property with animals and greenspace.
The Camp Cabin:
Camp in comfort in our "little cabin in the woods." Accommodates up to 6 guests, with a queen-sized bed, a futon and two low single beds in the loft, accessible only by ladder. Kids 6 and older may sleep in the loft-- just like Laura and Mary-- and they can read a chapter of one of Laura Ingalls' "Little House" books before bed!
The cabin contains a small refrigerator, microwave and gas fireplace (no, the pioneers didn’t have that!). Fresh eggs and other snacks are provided for breakfast. The restroom and shower are located in the walkout basement of the farmhouse, a 40 yard walk from the Cabin. The restroom has a private entrance and is used only by guests during their stay.
The Farm Property:
Pet and interact with goats and other farm animals. The goats and chickens love it when guests bring them tortilla chips, crackers or vegetable scraps. Enjoy fun activities on the farm and around the property.
Guests are welcome to use any of the common areas for fires or grilling. Quiet hours are from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.
The Barn:
The barn has a recreation area with basketball, foosball, air hockey, ping pong and swings. The climbing wall is off limits to guests. This facility is open May through October.
The barn is available for parties for an additional fee, depending on the size of the group. We have seating for up to 60 guests. Please note that the barn is not climate controlled (no air conditioning in summer, but the doors open and we have fans). The barn is closed November through April.

This is my second time staying with Todd and Margie on their land. This time I stayed on campsite 4. I stayed 3 nights solo with my doggie. Never once did I feel unsafe or anything of that nature. As a woman solo camper, that’s important to me. This was an amazing spot, I drive a Jeep and you 100% need 4WD to get to it. I bought a bundle of firewood and it was a nice large bundle. You are literally surrounded by trees and nature and not a person around. It was perfect. It rained most of Saturday, I tarped my tent and not one drop of rain came in, and it was not muddy either afterwards with the ground being clay like. The owners are super friendly. I really enjoy Hocking Hills and the hiking and I will not camp anywhere else as long as they offer their land as a place to stay. I didn’t use the shower but it’s nice it’s available.

Weekend Trip to Woody Acres
Stayed at the Hickory Hut with my boyfriend and pup for our anniversary and couldn't recommend Kate's place enough! We struggled to find a place last minute and stumbled upon their land, which was more than perfect. From the cat snuggles, to being able to have a fire under the stars each night, we thoroughly enjoyed our time spent there. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, with the addition of their land being beautiful. We will be back one day in the future!

Jay was there to orient us to the amenities and show us where to pitch our tent. There was a community building with a shower, 2 bathrooms, microwave, coffeemaker, and outlets for charging phones. There also was a large covered patio with tables and chairs. The patio worked well for drying out our tent before packing it up. FYI-, the water is well water and has a strong sulphuric smell.

This was my fourth time staying here. It’s a beautiful, secluded and quiet area but still just minutes from all of the Geneva wineries. The host was very nice and helpful and provided everything we needed for our stay. It was a perfect fall weekend getaway!

We loved the camping area! It was clean, the gravel area was flat to lay out our tent and the fire ring/picnic table at the site was so convenient.
When we arrived we were assisted with taking back our belongings via golf cart from the owners so it made lugging all of our things to the site a breeze. We are definitely interested in coming back for a longer stay!

After coming here for several years I have to say it's still the BEST! Grandson still wanted to come and he turns 15!! Loved the fresh eggs and special thanks to Zeus for "trying" to catch the garter snakes for us. No worries, they were absent the entire rest of our stay! And once again we packed way too much as we forgot all the extras you supply! If we don't come back with Grandson he will always remember these trips and the fishing. Chances are he will come back maybe even on his own someday!

The only downside of this spot is you have to carry all your stuff around 100 yards from where you can park. Not really a problem for us but something to keep in mind. Very quiet and well maintained. Took two sons, age 14 and 12, we all enjoyed the site, just the right size for us. Next day they fished in a clean pond with the poles provided while I sat in the gazebo. Clean bathroom with a shower. Also snacks and drinks were available for purchase. Will probably camp here again.

A great escape at The Camp Cabin, with everything you need to get away from it all. The cabin was a great fit for our family of 5 with kids ages 4 to 10 and black lab puppy. We spent our time around the pond, walking the trails, playing on the playground and in the barn, feeding the animals and enjoying the beautiful property. Very convenient bathrooms with a few cat visitors to keep you company, a few good dogs that might visit briefly while you're on the property.
All that we were looking for and more, we will visit again.
