Our beautiful 1800’s cabin was moved to the property in the 1970’s by a former neighbor who owned the property at the time. The same neighbor also had a historic train depot moved to the property where she sold antiques out of for several years. It is not sure what the cabin was used for at that time but it certainly added charm to the antique store property. When we acquired the property years later, the cabin was in need of work. It sat for a few years until we decided to restore this lovely cabin back to it’s beautiful charm and character. Jim spent a couple years on the project working in his free time and added the porch using old wood in keeping with the natural look and feel of the cabin as well as some interior areas. Upon completion, we opened the cabin as a gift shop selling unique items including antiques, primitives and decor for a few years. We decided to transition the cabin into a place of retreat for traveling guests and still keep some of the goods we sold in the shop available for purchase. We hope that you find the cabin and property a place of peace and tranquility and will want to return. Whether passing through for a night or a few days stay, you’re always welcome in our neck of the woods.

Make a stop back in time to our quiet woodland retreat with an updated 1800’s log cabin nestled on the property. At Cabin and Company, you will be parked beside this beautiful cabin and will be allowed access at your leisure for a place to sit and relax. (No overnight sleeping allowed inside) Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea (provided) while watching tv or on our covered porch outside. You may also select a movie or two from our large selection of DVDs or find a book to read among our stash of books. Play cards, engage in one of the other games provided, or just sit in the quiet of it all and rest your mind. There is a golf chipping area as well as basketball. We have WIFI at our residence on the adjacent property and some areas of the camp will pick it up better than others. There is a fire ring on site with an adjustable grate for cooking and plenty of seasoned firewood available.. We will have a few items available for purchase inside the cabin including local honey (when available) apple butter, coffee, hand crafted walking sticks and you won’t want to leave without some of these goodies. This semi secluded property is a gem and we hope you will enjoy this piece of history as much as we do. You may see wildlife such as whitetail deer and of course, there are plenty of birds and squirrels around. You won’t be disappointed in this cozy Midwest retreat and will want to make this one of your places while passing through our beautiful Ohio. Most of all, relax and enjoy.

Hemlock Hideaway and its 18 acres was originally part of a larger 100-acre plot that was surveyed and settled in the late 1700's by Gideon Granger of the Connecticut Land Company.
Granger sold it to one Jehoikim Burget in 1815 for the whopping price of $400.
The resident house was built in 1816 by Burget and then passed down to family members over the next 5 generations, until we bought it in 2003, marking the first time the house and remaining property were ever officially sold.
In the mid 1800's, a grist mill was put up across the river from the cabin, and our creek was the main road in and out of that operation.
There is a gravestone belonging to the wife of Jehoikim's son, she being half
Native American and therefore couldn't be buried in the local white cemetery.
We also own the original hand-written deed from 1815 detailing the sale of the original 100 acres to Jehoikim Burget.

Our primitive cabin nestled in the woods overlooking the Grand River is a nature-lover's paradise! Come canoe, fish, experience wine country, or unplug and just get away from it all. Please note: There is no running water or electricity at the site, but the cabin is generator-ready and there is an outhouse.
The cabin does have a wood burning stove for heat and simple cooking, however there is no running water or electricity. That being said, the building is wired and has plugs and outlets and is generator-ready. You provide your own generator and fuel. We provide sheets, pillows, flashlights, a fire ring with cooking grate, charcoal grill (you provide the charcoal), access to firewood, and an outhouse with toilet paper. Our 1/4 mile of Grand River frontage can be accessed right outside the cabin door via a quick hike down the steep hillside. If hiking isn't preferred, then a quick two-minute drive will take you to the Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark - a favorite of local fishermen. Bigger groups with tents are welcome, but will need to bring all supplies beyond what we provide for two guests.

This particular Cabin you have beautiful scenery, one awesome hot tub that seats up to 8 people ,a very comfortable queen bed, 1 set of bunk beds , a modern kitchen and bath a 60 inch smart tv . And a very large balcony that extends into the forest Where the hot tub can be found.
Check in is at 2pm and check out is 11am
Your reservation price covers three Guest any additional guest is $25 per day, per guest and the same goes for pets $25 per pet per day. Any difference in the reservation wether Guest or pets is upon arrival
We do offer Riding and a mountain adventure package and you may bring your own atv and pay a $30 day riding fee

It is the perfect getaway with being far enough away but not to far from plenty to do. A small cozy cabin nestled in the woods with a back drop that is perfect for every sunrise to sunset. Geneva on the lake is only 15 mins away with plenty of stuff to make for a busy weekend or to stay put and light a fire, relax and unwind. The hosts are very accommodating and easy to work with. A great time for all people and their pets!

It was everything we expected and more. Lisa and her husband were very accommodating. Went above and beyond for us. We were very happy we stayed there. What an amazing location directly on the Grand River, down the street from the Harperfield Bridge and minutes from so many great wineries and restaurants. We would highly recommend.

Weekend Trip to Hemlock Hideaway
Let Hemlock Hideaway be whatever you need it to be. After a wonderful yet busy and sometimes chaotic summer, I needed a place to unwind, find solitude and relax for a day. I literally came and stripped away all the constraints of everyday life and bared myself to nature and the peace and silence of the cabin. Tucked away in a little nook, close enough to the owners of anything was needed but far enough away and secluded enough to find privacy and solitude. The truly rustic stay was everything I was hoping for. I enjoyed a warm, sunny day hidden in the shade. The morning offered a short rain that actually added to the effect and then cleared for a beautiful morning. I could have stayed that way for days. Hang out, breathe deep, release everything and truly be one with the surroundings. I cannot wait until I can come again.

We loved staying at this cabin! It was cozy and rustic, but still accessible and accommodating. The hot tub was lovely, and having access to a kitchen well-stocked with tools made life much easier. The property was beautiful, and while we don’t ride, it was fun to watch everyone riding the trails! We would definitely recommend.

Great space for a private, rustic camping experience. Unfortunately our weekend away was hot, humid, and stormy but we were still able to enjoy the space. Too hot to stay in the cabin but plenty of space for two tents and a large canopy to stay dry. Hiked down the hill and the river was totally worth the climb! Woke every morning to the sound of eagles which brightened our day after stormy nights.

If you’re looking for a relaxing and unique Hipcamp experience this is the place. The cabin is so cozy. The front porch is a perfect location to relax and read a book. They offer 30 and 50 amp hookups. The grounds were meticulously maintained. I will most certainly book again!

This is our third time staying at Jim and Sharon's place, and it won't be our last. There are so many quaint Ohio towns to check out within 15 to 30 minutes of the campsite. But the campsite is so perfect, you may not even want to leave for your entire visit. Stop reading reviews and book it! You won't regret it.
