Shady Rest Campground is a quite peaceful property located within 2 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Firewood is plentiful in the campground and you just help yourself. The bathhouse is a little primitive but it has hot water, toilets and showers. We also have a covered shelter which offers an indoor fireplace you are welcome to use. The town of Sparta is 12 miles away and offers several restaurants and local shops. Stone Mountain is approximately 15 minutes away with great hiking beautiful waterfalls in the park. Welcome to Peak A View Farm & Camp where Rest and Relaxation are a Reality! Come enjoy the beautiful landscape of the western mountains in Ashe County, NC on ninety acres of farmland and forest surrounded by mountain peaks, the New River and breathtaking sunsets. On the drive in, to the southeast you can see Peak Mountain for which the property was named. The mountain is part of the New River State Park and is known for its scenic river views and hiking trails. Two RV buddy campsites are available on the property. Campsite #1 was originally created for our personal use. Campsite #2, so our fellow camping buddies could join us. Although a short drive from our homes, the serenity of the property always makes us feel as if we’ve travelled many miles. Campsites are laid out in an ‘L’ shape which creates the perfect group camping experience. Guests can choose to camp alone or invite others. Campsite 1 and 2 are reserved together as one booking due to the close proximity of the sites. The property is secluded, but easily accessible. Campsites are full hookups which include water, sewer and 50 amp electric. Both sites can accommodate any size RV. They are gravel and level which makes getting set up easy. A 30 x 30 shelter with concrete floor, lights, picnic tables and trash bin is nearby, which is a great asset in any weather. A fire pit and chairs are a nice addition for evening enjoyment. Firewood is provided. WiFi is available. The area is pet friendly. Pets can be off leash, however, you might consider leashing your pet, as wildlife is frequently seen. If your furry friend is anything like our dogs, the chase is on when a deer, squirrel or turkey makes a sudden appearance! During your stay, take a 7/10 mile walk down to the New River. Pull up one of the chairs on the small covered deck overlooking the river, sit back and take in the sounds of the calming waters. Watch floaters, kayakers and canoe navigators pass by or enjoy your own floating, fishing and swimming. On the other side of the river is part of the New River State Park. A 15 minute drive will take you to downtown West Jefferson for restaurants and shopping. Visit the Ashe County Chamber of Commerce online or downtown for information on our county’s many attractions and events.

Wilkesboro (Merelefest, Faithfest, Brushy Mountain Apple Festival) 16 miles, West Jefferson 28 miles, Stone Mountain State Park 24 miles, Boone 43 miles, Tweetsie Railroad 46 miles, Grandfather Mtn 56 miles, Mt. Airy (Mayberry) 53 miles. We have had several 40+ft rigs stay with us with no issue. For those not accustomed to mountain travel or new drivers please know that travel off NC 18 on the state road is a typical two lane paved mountain road with curves, some of which will require you to swing wide, a couple of areas of moderate incline but that does not exceed 8%, a short state maintained gapped section of gravel and an occasional low hanging branch. At the campsites there is a slight incline and some loose gravel. Caution: Wildlife present in the area including bear, bobcat, deer, turkey.

With the addition of Liberty, I have limited the number of campers to 4. (Exceptions may be made for holiday weekends). There is plenty of space for everyone and the cabin sits above the tent sites for amazing views and privacy. While HWY 16 can be a bit noisy during busy times, step into the campsites and let the peaceful noise-canceling river serenity whisk you away. Forest views across the river with endless fireflies and stars that light up the night! Zaloo's Canoes, Kayak, and Tubes is within eyesight and will set you up with an amazing float or paddle down river. Plentiful small mouth bass and trout fishing just steps from your site. Outhouse w/washing station. Fire pits at each site as well as a large communal fire pit and picnic tables. Downtown West Jefferson is just 15 minutes away with local breweries, quaint restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, shopping, music, art, and a wonderful farmer's market from May - October. The quaint little town of Lansing, NC is quickly becoming a favorite stop of mine. Check out the Old Orchard Creek General Store, Pie on the Mountain Pizza, the Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Farm, and Molly Chomper for a perfect day in Ashe County. The New River State Park is an easy walk, float, paddle or drive away. This park is absolutely GORGEOUS and impeccably maintained, including hiking trails, public facilities, showers, boat launch and pick up, etc. Just a short drive to multiple Blue Ridge Parkway entry points for ease of access to Boone, Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, and the Linville Gorge. Mount Jefferson and Grayson Highlands are also just a short drive away for unlimited hiking and incredible mountain views. My personal favorite is hiking with the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands! We have Firewood available for a nominal fee. Just let us know and we will make arrangements to have it ready for you upon arrival. Please respect quiet hours between 10 PM and 8 AM each evening.
