Weekend Trip to Legacy Farms Leisure Area

We always love staying at Legacy Farms. It’s always a nice peaceful getaway, and allows us to reconnect with each other as a family. The kids love helping out on the farm, and spending time with the animals. As always, Liz and Tom are friendly and accommodating, and very patient!

1 night at Nick’s Nook

Staff was very welcoming and helpful. Fire wood was provided and they even escorted us to our campsite. Campsite was clean and debris free and was overall pretty peaceful.

The men were so excited when we pulled up to our spot (#5)!! We had a great view, fairly easy access for the kids to get in the river, and privacy. Some other spots (2-3, I think) were open and would be great for a huge group, because there was no privacy between them. I didn’t notice in reviews or site details that were was a private potty tent. So that was a pleasant surprise. The wood they provided was good burning wood. We peeked in on the yurt. That looks really cool for cold weather! Overall, a great place, with lots of campsite options! We would definitely come back!!

Camping here was easy! Having a campsite by the river was wonderful. The firewood was a bonus. We had no trouble finding our site and Billy even checked in to be sure we were good. We did, however have noisy neighbors at next site that ran a generator until midnight. After it died, it was so peaceful. Would visit again!

Very nice and private site right on the water! Perfect for hammocking and relaxing. Saw a lot of wildlife and the sounds at night will put you right to sleep. Porta potty was nearby and stocked with toilet paper. Purchased some bundles of wood from the main office and they burned nicely. Would definitely recommend and come back!

This campground has great amenities! We really appreciated the clean bathroom, dish washing station and nature trail. My family enjoyed our stay at this curated space and would be happy to stay here again!

Location is perfect. You are right on the river. Sites were very clean. Ground is level for a tent. It is very quiet through the night. Very comfortable and relaxing. The portable toilets have a lot of hugs though. Only complaint. Everything else was a dream.

I enjoyed my stay on Nikki’s camping land so much, secluded, peaceful & such a beautiful view! We indulged in the kayaking adventure Billy was great with directions, helping with our activity & providing us with whatever we needed for our stay. Great location! The hosts were very helpful and the facilities were as described. It was so much nicer than trying to camp as a group at a KOA or something like that. We will definitely come back if we are heading this way again.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights for the second time there with our A-liner. The campsites are nestled under loblolly pine trees and beautifully manicured property. Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating and respected our privacy. We will be staying here regularly as it is a perfect, quiet place to enjoy nature and a respite from our busy schedules.

Nice location right on the river. Small pop up tents for bathrooms. Only problem for us was we found the campsites to be little on the small side and close together. However it is close to our and we would go back for a quick overnight or weekend trip.

Loved everything about this place! The fields, forest, pond and stream were beautiful and clean. It was very private. The host was super; he gave use all the helpful and useful information about the site but kept it concise. We would definitely camp here again and in fact intend on it very soon!

Easy to find, easy to park at, convenient to I-95, safe, clean, and so many extras! There are even well marked trails (with colored blazes!) running throughout the property. Great signage throughout the property, but the signage is tastefully done and not intrusive to the overall camping esthetic. The hosts are fantastic- quick and clear communicators. They engage as much or as little as you want. As noted in the HipCamp listing, the cellular service for AT&T is sketchy at best. I could not set up an AT&T hotspot, but did manage to get a few emails out and a few SMS messages out. The HipCamp app would not connect due to the poor AT&T service. The hosts offer a WiFi package …. I did not take advantage of this, but if you are on AT&T and need connectivity, I would go for the WiFi addon. This trip was only an overnight stay for me on a south bound journey, but I would like to come back and stay a few days. It is clear that Mike and Scott know exactly what a HipCamper would need for a stay. Thank you Mike and Scott!!!

7 nights at JCO Campground at Lee Baysden Pond

I have enjoyed the pleasure of Contessa’s beautiful property several times. It is so peaceful and they go out of their way to accommodate each and every guest. It is very well maintained and everyone I have met that is camping love it. It’s my go to place that I know I can just relax, feel safe and enjoy the sound of the ducks and watch the Eagles fly over the lake. I hope to return a couple of times each year. The wildlife I have enjoyed on my visits are, Eagles, Ducks, Wild Turkeys and a beautiful Buck Deer crossing the dam at dawn.

5 nights at Legacy Farms Leisure Area

Liz’s property is a working horse farm. When I arrived, Tom, Liz’s husband, showed me around and I got a peek at a foal that was only 3 1/2 days old. The next day, young foal was running around with its mother. People occasionally come to ride the horses around the farm. They also have a pride of beautiful peafowl grazing the property, as well as a few dogs and uncounted cats. Liz and Tom are extremely friendly, but give guests respect for the rented space. The water hookup is very tasty well water. 120V plug accomodated me until I turned on the toaster oven when I blew the circuit breaker. I consider that my bad. Electric fences are rife, so watch your children and dogs! I would spend more time here if I could. Just about 30 minutes south of Fayetteville, and nearer to other amenities, I find it very convenient for groceries, the gym, home improvement store, hardware, etc. Five stars all the way!

Absolutely enjoyed our stay! The owners were very accommodating and helpful!! We stayed at sunset cove site 1 with our dog, the view was beautiful and the site was very private which we were also able to go fishing off of which was amazing! We will definitely be back soon!

We had a great weekend! Site #5 was perfect for us. It's hard to beat a quiet weekend by the river. This campground offers plenty of room to roam and explore. We did a little hiking but also passed the time on the river bank relaxing. Nikki and Billy were helpful via messages and the site was easy to find and clean when we arrived. They had a camp toilet set up for our site and firewood had already been delivered. We'll be back!

Back to the basics, come and experience Tar River Life’s primitive camping on the Tar River. Enjoy being on the river and listening to slow running sound of the Tar River. Bring your own tent or rent one of ours. You can drive your vehicle to all of our campsites. The drive to camp is about 1/2 miles. Each site includes a fire pit, wood and trash bin. Cook your own meals or try and catch your own fish from the river. Campsites can be secluded or grouped. Each site comes with a picnic table, 1 bundle of wood and trash can. Stay for a night or longer period of time, come and enjoy the outdoors with us. We have lots of walking trails, fishing access, wildlife, kayaking and tubing (must be purchased through us). 2WD vehicles are ok except during wet conditions. There is also the Vollmer Farm, with seasonal produce a Full Coffee Shop with breakfast goodies and baked goods and not to mention their fabulous ice cream. They have goods from around NC including, eggs, honey, meats, beers, wine and more. There is a grocery store (Food Lion) about 15 minutes away. So you can stock up on supplies on your way to your next adventure. We are pet friendly!

JCO Campground at Lee Baysden Pond

Rated Finalist for Top Hipcamp in 2023 and 2024! This is a Family Venue! No Parties and/or drunknesses allowed. We strive to create an environment for nature viewing, stargazing, fishing, and unwinding in nature as camping should be. the historic pond was originally much smaller. We have records that date back to our 6th Great-Grandfather, Joab Fountain, who received a royal grant from the crown in 1773 for the property and then just a grist mill, blacksmith shop and old general store. The property was passed down through the Fountain family until the late 1910's. Originally a creek dammed up for the purpose of the mill it was later dug out in the late 1940's by Lee Baysden. In a long story (that can soon be found on our website/blog) the land was auctioned off in 2007. This landowner dug it out and made it the 22-acre lake that it is today. The property also features 2 smaller ponds and surrounded by woods, swamp, and farmed fields, a total of 84 acres. Divided by Duplin and Onslow County line making it very unique! Chinquapin, NC The store/office is the original detached kitchen from his homeplace, which is the white house just up the street. We still use this today and it has Mr. Lee Baysden's handwriting in the store that states opened June 1956. The pond was owned and fished until the late 1990's. A hurricane damaged the dam and land was sold sometime after. The next owner dug the pond into the lake it is today and fixed the dam. In 2020 My husband Tyler, and I decided to buy the Pond when we saw the signs up for sale in the height of the pandemic. We created JCO, Juniper Creek Outfitters and Guide Service, fall 2020 and began to restore the lake and land to better than ever! We introduced our first Glamping A-Frame cabin in 2021 and in 2024 the Floating Cabin. We host community events such as fishing tournaments, fireworks, music, movie nights, and food trucks. We also host special occasions in the cabins from engagements, honeymoons, birthdays anniversaries. Youth groups and scouts also welcome. Ask about special pricing. Our camp office/store is opened most weekends or by check-in requests and fishing passes available 7 days a week online from sunrise-dark. Our lake features fishing for Bass, Crappie, Bream, Catfish, Bowfin, varieties of Panfish, and more. My husband is retired from the Air Force and works full time doing the chores. I retired May 2024 from being a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner at Womack Army Medical Center. I have a side hobby making homemade jams, pickles and flavored goat cheese spreads. We love the peacefulness of where we live...although the weather chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, guinea fowl, peacocks, goats and horses do get a little loud come feeding time. We have different sites, please read each description or message me before you book a stay. All the sites have an 8pm latest check in unless you've stayed with us before. With the cold snap we have been experiencing the RV water source will freeze up over night. Please message me before booking the RV. We are constantly looking for ways to upgrade or make our farm more fun to visit.

Our little private campground is a hidden jewel in the making. Each campsite is private. We are not a parking lot like so many campgrounds are these days. We are still currently working on infrastructure but are willing to host campers that are self sufficient at a reduced rate for now. We do have a fun play ground, hiking trails, a steam we lovingly named Alligator Gore (to keep the little ones out of the mud). We are pet friendly. Each site has a fire ring or fire pit. We have a full bathroom available. We have a small camp store. We have group camp sites, pull through RV / Camper sites and a few glamping cabins. Located only 40 minutes from the NC coast and much more affordable and less crowded. We are still growing so we do not have a pool yet but will have one in the future. We do have a kids and youth program with weekly crafts and other activities. Picnic tables are available on some sites. Almost across the street is a wonderful boat ramp and fishing spot on the Cape Fear River. Canoe down to a sand bank about a mile down river and have a romantic picnic. A Celtic themed restaurant, the Mad Boar, is just a 10 minute drive if you are looking for a unique farm to table experience. And Duplin Winery is just 15 minutes away with tastings and tours. Located just 10 minutes from I-40 off US 41 we are easily found. A diamond in the rough.
