We strive to create an environment for nature viewing, stargazing, fishing, and unwinding in nature as camping should be. Quiet time enforced 10pm-6am. Check in strictly 2-8pm. We do not allow late check ins. We meet and greet all guests.the historic pond was originally much smaller. We have records that date back to our 6th Great-Grandfather, Joab Fountain, who received a royal grant from the crown in 1773 for the property and then just a grist mill, blacksmith shop and old general store. The property was passed down through the Fountain family until the late 1910's. Originally a creek dammed up for the purpose of the mill it was later dug out in the late 1940's by Lee Baysden. The property also features 2 smaller ponds and surrounded by woods, swamp, and farmed fields, a total of 84 acres. Divided by Duplin and Onslow County line making it very unique! Chinquapin, NC
The store/office is the original detached kitchen from his homeplace, which is the white house just up the street. We still use this today and it has Mr. Lee Baysden's handwriting in the store that states opened June 1956. The pond was owned and fished until the late 1990's. A hurricane damaged the dam and land was sold sometime after. The next owner dug the pond into the lake it is today and fixed the dam.
In 2020 My husband Tyler, and I decided to buy the Pond Our camp office/store is opened most weekends or by check-in requests and fishing passes available 7 days a week online from sunrise-dark. Our lake features fishing for Bass, Crappie, Bream, Catfish, Bowfin, varieties of Panfish, and more. Check out our Facebook page (JCO Campground at Lee Baysden Pond) for all the latest news and catches! We have tagged bass that have been released back into the lake. Let us know if you catch one so we can record it! We are continually trying to make JCO and Lee Baysden Pond a great place in our community for friends and families! At River Bend Retreat, you can fish straight from the dock, launch your kayak, and even put your boat in using our private community boat ramp 1/4 mile from the home. Our hand-built Wood Fired Tub is available as an add-on for guests who want to turn a fishing trip into a relaxing retreat. All you have to do is light the fire, wait for the water to warm, and settle in for a quiet soak outdoors.
This site is available to RVs and campervans only, and offer full hookups , including septic, 110v power, and fresh water (for additional price). There is no bathroom on the property, so your RV or campervan must be fully self-contained with its own toilet and shower. The pull-through driveway is flat, and the dock, hot-tub and fire pit are all conveniently located just steps from your parking spot. Extra firewood is available if needed, and the dock has lighting for night fishing, as well as space to tie off kayaks or small boats during your stay.
The site also offers a flat 6 mile dirt road perfect for a peaceful walk or hike, where you can explore and even search for historic shark teeth.

The property is located 7 miles off highway 74/76 in Whiteville and 10 miles to Lake Waccamaw, 32 miles to Ocean Isle Beach, 45 miles to Wilmington, 36 miles to North Myrtle Beach. The road is gravel all the way to the camping area with signs for directions. Located just east of Fayetteville's exit 49 off I-95, is our lovely, quiet, and secluded 30-acre tract of Southern Yellow pines that we purchased several years ago. Since we love camping so much, we decided to carve out 15 campsites for other campers to enjoy. Most of our campsites are gravel and level.
BEFORE YOU BOOK, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT SITES 8, 12, 13, 14, AND 15 ARE OUT OF RANGE OF THE WIFI.
We have only site 1 that has full hookups. All the other sites are boondocking with water only.

104 acres of private land for your enjoyment. This site would be best suited for tent campers at the moment due to no bath houses or electricity for the time being. Come enjoy your stay bring a kayak or canoe and float around the 6 acres of ponds and catch some of the many bass, bream or crappie that occupy the waters. The property is located 7 miles off highway 74/76 in Whiteville and 10 miles to Lake Waccamaw, 32 miles to Ocean Isle Beach, 45 miles to Wilmington, 36 miles to North Myrtle Beach. The road is gravel all the way to the camping area with signs for directions. When there’s no burn ban in place or lack of rain i do try to keep firewood on-site but I recommend checking with me before your stay. Reserve your spot and experience the peace and quiet of the outdoors and listen to the turkeys and watch the deer feed in early mornings while the sun rises. We had another great stay in the cabins here! We were able to walk some of the trails on the property and were very happy with all the amenities in our cabin. This is a perfect spot for when we travel to the Wilmington area, but want to be out of the city. Love that the cabins are dog friendly too!

I absolutely loved my stay at Black River Camping Ventures! This is a gorgeous, pristine private family campground directly on the Black River. I camped here spur of the moment in the off season near the winter holidays. My tent site was immaculate, the check-in/out super easy, and my host Lisa made time to keep in good contact and to come by for a visit. The location is great for easy paddling access to the river. I originally planned a longer trek downstream and ended up just staying and exploring the ancient cypress swamps right around the campgrounds. Will definitely be back and I recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful time on the Black River! Thanks, Lisa!

We had a great stay in cabin 8! It was nice and warm on a chilly day, and had everything we needed. Beds were very comfortable and the space was very clean and decorated beautifully. This was a short trip, so we weren’t able to explore the property and amenities, but hope to return again soon and bring our dog!

Beautiful, private and somewhat enchanted. We felt such a sense of peace here. From the first contact with Mike, we knew it would be special. Large, private lots were scattered throughout the wooded area. Very well landscaped and looking forward to returning when everything is in bloom. If this is any indication of what our retirement will be like, we’re ready to explore now. A lot of love and care has built this place and it shows!
