Camping here was great! The Hillside site had more than I normally look for in a camp site, including an awesome cooking/prep area, a lovely platform for my tent, and so many included supplies that I was able to dramatically cut what I normally pack. The creekside area is gorgeous. I'm ready to come back with a group of friends!

2 nights at Wild Again - forest farm

I really enjoyed my stay here. I was looking for a roof over my head for rainy days on a camping trip. The cabin is great. I hope to come back and spend a couple days. Tanja was a great host. She gave detailed directions to find it. Beware of challenging road to get there, but I was able to get there in a midsize even without 4WD. Highly recommend!

This little piece of unplugged heaven was perfect for our getaway. Super fun to explore the area and easy to find. The hosts were great and very welcoming. We’d love to go back.

2 nights at Kohler Farms-A Shire Horse...

I don't want to be cheesy, but my experience here was truly magical. Just tucked away enough to feel secluded but close enough to the hosts' house and civilization to feel safe. You're just across a small creek from the horse pastures. The horses were incredibly friendly with both me and my dog (who kept a curious but respectful distance.) The site itself was well prepped for guests and would be great for large groups but also felt perfectly private and peaceful for a single camper. Couldn't recommend enough!! Will be back!

Cheryl was very informative and made sure our needs were met. The camp site (2 creekside) was very large and private. Hearing the rushing waters of the creek was wonderful at night! The land itself is beautiful and a plus having a bathhouse. The onsite store held a little of everything!!

We had another great trip to The Oasis at Harmon Creek Farms. There have been some amazing additions since our last time there -- a sweet store to purchase basic need items, fresh food from the farm (we tried their cinnamon rolls, YUM!), & there were so many other things! Also, the new bathroom/shower area is lovely. We were at creek front 6 this time - the perfect size for two (plus our two dogs). It felt private & we were able to walk down the road path to get into the creek. Everyone was very friendly & helpful. Can't wait to go back!

We loved camping at Harmon Farms! The site was very private and rustic, even though the farm had a lot to offer! We bought fresh eggs, sausage, and steak from the camp store to cook while we camped. All were delicious! Our group went on the farm tour (loved learning about the working farm and a lot of the processes) and rented RC speed boats (ton of fun, even for adults). There’s a neat waterfall/swimming hole about a 5 minute drive away, which we also enjoyed. Thanks for the great weekend!

We had a great experience! We chose this spot to take our kids on their first camping trip and they absolutely loved it. Access to the creek was great and we had plenty of space for them to run around. It rained the night before so the field was too muddy to bring our cars so Cheryl and her family helped us bring our gear in on their four wheeler. We will definitely be booking another stay with them.

We loved our stay at Kohler Farms! The campsite was absolutely beautiful—right along the creek, which provided the most peaceful background of babbling water all weekend long. The hosts were incredibly communicative and thoughtful, even covering the kindling so everything stayed dry for us. Tons of firewood was available, and the site itself felt private and well-kept. Their two farm dogs stopped by to say hello a couple of times and were so sweet with our pup—it was such a fun surprise. And wow, their shire horses are stunning! Seeing them up close was magical. The only thing to note is that you can hear some road traffic at night, but overall, this spot was serene and so worth it. We’d absolutely come back!

Elizabeth and Mark were wonderful hosts. It was such a treat getting to tour their farm and meet the friendliest donkeys, goats, and dogs. They loved the attention, it was so cute. We were even gifted some fresh laid eggs that we had for breakfast the next morning. The treehouse is fully stocked, with a grill, camp stove, pots, pans, dishes, COFFEE, and everything! Elizabeth is also super attentive, quick to respond on the app, and, I can't help but tell this story... We had to call them on our first night to rescue us from a very intimidating spider! We were nervous to ask for help, thinking they might act like we were wimps for not being able to deal with it on our own, but Mark came down decked out in what looked like a beekeeper suit with poison spray, and Elizabeth had her pellet gun ready for battle! It was hilarious and incredible, and we are forever grateful for their bravery and how seriously they took the situation! We would definitely stay here again. Advice for future campers: Bring good lanterns and headlamps and leave your kitchen items at home!

I absolutely loved my stay and will be back with friends and family! We were greeted upon our arrival and given a tour, and even had our wood delivered to our site for us! My daughter got to pet and hold some farm animals on the farm tour and had a blast walking around the farm! 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND for anyone with small children that love the outdoors!

Weekend Trip to Mountain Farm Camping & Glamping

Christina and Joe were excellent hosts! It was the perfect weekend getaway. Upon checkin we were greeted to make sure we had everything we needed. Throughout our stay, Joe and Christina made sure to stay in contact and check if we needed anything at all. They were beyond friendly and gave great recommendations to local spots to check out. The property was very clean, including the shower house which provided access to warm water, toilets, and showers. We will be back!

Jessup Mill

Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. Babbling Brook Campground

Before the Kerr Scott Reservoir was built, in the 40's and 50's, this neighborhood was a local swimming hole and vacation area. Public buses came from neighboring communities so people could boat, swim, camp, and picnic. While we don't have access to the pond, our part of this land still is calling out to people, 'Come, rest, unload your burdens, and find peace.' When we started this project with Hipcamp, we didn't fully realize that we were reconnecting with the history on this property. So, come, take your shoes off, and wade in the creek. Read a book while laying in a hammock. Sit by the fire and chat with family and friends. Come and participate in our little homesteading project, and leave your burdens behind. LOCAL ACTIVITIES: To the west is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 30 minutes away. 15 minutes away is Kerr Scott Dam where you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, as well as other sporting equipment. Fish, go mountain biking on the extensive trails, and hiking. Prayer Mountain is right up the road, about 2 miles away. Heading east, you can find several fine wineries andvineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town. About a half hour away is an Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. To the northeast, about 45 minutes away, is Stone Mountain. Absolutely fantastic hiking, it is also an old homestead that has been renovated and is open to the public. To the south, there is Rocky Face Park, where there is hiking and rock climbing. Nearby, is Emerald Hollow Mine, where you can go and find, and keep, precious stones you find in the nearby river. There is also a great disk course course, Highland Hills Disc Golf Course, one of the top 25 in the country. There is fun for all ages. Merlefest, the last weekend of April, is a world class Bluegrass festival, is located right in our town. Be sure to look at the activities section below for additional information.
