Weekend Trip to Camp The New River, Blacksburg, VA

Beautiful, serene spot with tons of wildlife and great fishing. The amenities were more than expected, making the stay super comfortable. We even received a refund due to bad weather on our last day — such a thoughtful and unexpected gesture. Highly recommend for a relaxing nature escape while still being close enough to town!

Really loving camping spot! The sites were in good condition and farm area well maintained. The historic cabin was cute as well. The couple was very helpful and even loaned us an extension cord to reach our tent. Definitely would stay here again!

Amazing place! Laura and Steve were great hosts. We had a great weekend with them. The toilets at each site made it very nice. We didn’t have a shower bag but they provided one. We didn’t catch a catfish in the river. Amazing place to stay we will definitely be returning!

We really enjoyed our stay at Eden Oaks campground! Sandra and Roy were great hosts and we loved getting to see their animals. We camped down by the creek and it was a peaceful, flat spot. Roy brought us a bunch of dry firewood since it had been raining. We would definitely go back!

Weekend Trip to Kohler Farms-A Shire Horse...

The shire horses and creek to play in were a treat for the kids. Our group enjoyed the location and plan to return, hopefully when the assortment of Hostas are blooming. The Hipcamp description was accurate. Although it is near the highway and hosts residence where you can hear a truck every once an a while, the site is quite secluded. Nice flat open mowed grassy field for camping.

The cozy spot by the pond offers such a peaceful escape from everything! With the beautiful greenery all around and the soft sound of leaves rustling, it’s no wonder this lovely little oasis is cherished so much! It's the perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature.

The site was better than expected and nestled next to a small creek. While I stayed initially during the week when hardly anyone else was there, the weekend brought more campers but the sites were far enough away to offer some privacy. Cheryl and her family were great!

We really enjoyed our stay at this campground! We stayed at site #10, which was a bit secluded—exactly what we were looking for. It was the perfect spot for our group of 11, with 6 tents and 2 cars fitting comfortably. One of the highlights was the adorable "welcome committee" of chickens that greeted us on arrival—such a fun and memorable start to the weekend! Seeing all the animals around the farm gave the experience a unique charm that truly sets it apart from other campgrounds. We also bought eggs from the farm, and it was such a treat to have real eggs from genuinely happy chickens—fresh, delicious, and clearly well-loved animals. We later found out they also sell meats from the farm, which we would definitely have purchased if we had known earlier—such a great offering for campers looking to enjoy local, high-quality food. The hosts were incredibly friendly, talkative, and open. They made us feel very welcome and were generous and responsive throughout our stay. It’s clear they genuinely care about their guests and the space they’ve created. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a peaceful, nature-filled, and slightly off-the-beaten-path camping experience!

We enjoyed “glamping” on Matt and Kayla’s land. The views are spectacular and watching the farm animals added an element of fun. It was a great way to celebrate our anniversary. Very peaceful and relaxing. Directions were clear and we also did some of the things Matt suggested: Buffalo Mountain Trail, the Cafe, and a little ride on the BRP. Thank you for sharing this slice of heaven with us! Hope to return soon.

We had a wonderful time staying on this beautiful serene property offered by Cheryl and Tim. Along with their family, they made sure every need we had was met so that our stay would be perfect! They even have fresh eggs, meats and firewood on site in their farm store! It was so quiet and peaceful with our site being right by the lovely creek. We walked down a steep little path at our site into the water and enjoyed the scenery up close. I even did yoga on a little rocky sandbar by the small rapids one day! If you want to relax and get away from the busyness of life, this is your spot!

Our native trees and crops could easily be devastated by outside diseases or pests that are carried in firewood. We offer firewood for sale from our farm (delivered to your site for no additional fee). You do NOT have to purchase it prior to your arrival, just let us know how much you will need so we will have it ready for you. Our new CAMP STORE offers firewood (delivered to your site!) , meats and eggs from our farm, Tallow & lard (both rendered right here!), drinks, Amish made ice cream and jams/jellies/preserves, hammocks, hammock chairs, smoked dog bones, soaps (made right here), rentals of: cast iron cookware, a tent, Coleman stove, fishing poles, ... and MUCH MORE! This campground represents redemption and healing in so many ways. Our hope is that you will find much peace, joy, and adventure here and we promise to do our best to make it everything you expected and more! Numerous large manicured campsites in an open space DIRECTLY ON THE NEW RIVER where adventures abound! Up to 4 guests and 2 tents per site. Newly constructed tiny home provides GLAMPING at its finest! The Liberty cabin shares a space with a few tent sites along the river. With the addition of Liberty, I have limited the number of campers to 4. (Exceptions may be made for holiday weekends). There is plenty of space for everyone and the cabin sits above the tent sites for amazing views and privacy. While HWY 16 can be a bit noisy during busy times, step into the campsites and let the peaceful noise-canceling river serenity whisk you away. Forest views across the river with endless fireflies and stars that light up the night! Zaloo's Canoes, Kayak, and Tubes is within eyesight and will set you up with an amazing float or paddle down river. Plentiful small mouth bass and trout fishing just steps from your site. Outhouse w/washing station. Fire pits at each site as well as a large communal fire pit and picnic tables. Downtown West Jefferson is just 15 minutes away with local breweries, quaint restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, shopping, music, art, and a wonderful farmer's market from May - October. The quaint little town of Lansing, NC is quickly becoming a favorite stop of mine. Check out the Old Orchard Creek General Store, Pie on the Mountain Pizza, the Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Farm, and Molly Chomper for a perfect day in Ashe County. The New River State Park is an easy walk, float, paddle or drive away. This park is absolutely GORGEOUS and impeccably maintained, including hiking trails, public facilities, showers, boat launch and pick up, etc. Just a short drive to multiple Blue Ridge Parkway entry points for ease of access to Boone, Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, and the Linville Gorge. Mount Jefferson and Grayson Highlands are also just a short drive away for unlimited hiking and incredible mountain views. My personal favorite is hiking with the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands! We have Firewood available for a nominal fee. Just let us know and we will make arrangements to have it ready for you upon arrival. Please respect quiet hours between 10 PM and 8 AM each evening.
