Overlook Lean-To, Treehouse, primitive campsites, and so much more! This is glamping at its finest. Our property was originally used as a seasonal hunting/fishing camp in the 1920's. Sheila and Bob bought it in the early 80s and have turned it into an amazing compound built for their family. Nestled in a mature, private pine forest, this well cared for property boasts abundant wildlife and a network of walking, skiing and mountain biking trails which take you past wetlands, cliffs and a variety of forest types. They have all kinds of lodging options from a beautiful vacation cabin they rent, to an Adk lean-to, to a Treehouse, and primitive campsites. The Center Farm

1 site · Lodging142 acres · Hardwick, VT
This land is a very special place. The energy is calming and you will feel at peace with yourself after just a short time walking through the woods. This property was first purchased by my great grandfather in 1919. I was fortunate to be able to purchase it from my father in 2007. Much work was done to bring it back from being neglected and overgrown. The original buildings burned to the ground in 1948 and the property has been rebuilt over the last dozen years. It is a work in progress but also a labor of love. Enjoy a stay in this small rustic cabin. Experience peace and solitude while enjoying magnificent views atop forested hills offering stunning southeast views that overlook Vermont's central mountain ranges. The site is secluded and private and is ideally situated to view wildlife, allowing one to experience the outdoors away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. WiFi is available at the barn should there be the need to reconnect with the world at large. Two guests sleep comfortably in the cabin; four would be a little tight but manageable - there is ample room for tents if need be. The 8' x 8' cabin has one set of twin bunkbeds (bedding is not provided) and an 8' x 4' covered porch. In the colder seasons there is a propane Buddy Heater available to keep the cabin cozy. The outhouse with a composting toilet is situated close to the cabin. There is a fire ring on the stone patio with a cooking grate available for grilling. Pre-purchased firewood will be at the cabin, ready for your arrival. Additional wood is available for purchase on the way up to the cabin. Recently added is a portable kitchen, set up outside for an easier cooking experience as well as a wash bin for dishes. Items available at the site: Water for dishes Cast iron pan for grilling/grate cooking Small pots with covers (multiple) Pizza pan for grilling/grate cooking Basic grilling utensils (spatula, tongs) Serving spoon(s) Various eating utensils/knives Cups/plates/bowls Dish soap & cloths Heat-resistant gloves (for grates) Small propane grill First aid kit & fire extinguisher The main property is located in the heart of a rural farming community between the town of Greensboro (home of Caspian Lake), and the village of Hardwick. It offers 3 - 4 miles of groomed, wooded trails, ideal for walking, hiking, mountain and fat biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The cabin is also in close proximity to Hill Farmstead Brewery (7 miles), The Highland Center for the Arts (3 miles) and the Willey's Store (3.5 miles). The village of Hardwick (3 miles) offers local shops, markets, restaurants, Buffalo Mountain Co-op and Front Seat Coffee (an artisan coffee house also offering free WiFi). 13 miles from the town of Craftsbury and the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, an olympic-style sport training facility catering to all ability levels. Additionally the central location offers access to many of Vermont's State Parks (Green River Reservoir State Park, Elmore State Park, Groton State Park, Crystal Lake State Park, Willoughby State Forest, Brighton State Park, just to name a few) offering daily access for hiking, fishing, swimming, paddle-boarding, canoeing and kayaking.

We have a dirt driveway and while the parking area terrain is mostly flat, it may be a little unsteady for folks with gait issues. Nestled at the bottom of Laraway Mountain, Maple Rock Hollow provides a tranquil place to stay while providing easy access to a myriad of outdoor activities. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you would like additional information, recommendations, directions, etc. If you plan to use the fire pit during your stay, make sure to pick up some firewood when you stop for groceries at one of the area markets. We have three friendly dogs; Kai, Morgan and Gracie. Pond: Please do not attempt to enter or swim in the pond or walk on it when it appears to be frozen. Do feel free to enjoy the bench near the pond while taking in the peaceful mountainside location. Wild Animals: Please note that we live in nature. Our property is home to a variety of wild animals, including, but not limited to deer, turkey, fox, coyote and bear. Please do not approach any wild animals on the property or attempt to feed them. Cabins in Lake Champlain with snow sports guide

Overview

With 587 miles of shoreline extending across New York, Vermont, and Quebec, Canada; 71 islands and more than a dozen state parks to explore; plus a backdrop of the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks—Lake Champlain is a sprawling slice of paradise for outdoor adventurers. Boating, fishing, and water sports are popular lake activities, while the surrounding Champlain Valley is dotted with hiking and biking trails, day-use and picnic areas, and golf courses. Campers have options, too, whether you prefer an RV resort with full hookups, a cozy lakeside cabin, or a boat-in tent site.

Where to go

New York Shore

Wild forests and dreamy lake views await on the west shore of Lake Champlain, and boaters and hikers will be in their element. Explore the Lake Champlain Valley by bike or on foot, enjoy some of the region’s best bass fishing, or come in winter to enjoy snowshoeing, ice fishing, and ice skating. Plattsburgh is the largest city on the New York side, from where ferries run to Vermont, but you’ll find RV parks and campgrounds dotting the lakeshore.

Adirondacks High Peaks

The forest-clad mountains and wilderness areas of the vast Adirondacks park lie just west of Lake Champlain, where you can scale the High Peaks, kayak or whitewater raft along the rivers, and marvel at some of New York’s best fall foliage views. There are RV sites with full hookups and glamping options to be found in the Adirondacks, but for a back-to-nature camping trip, opt for a backcountry tent site in the heart of the wilderness.

Vermont

Lake Champlain’s eastern shore lies in Vermont, framed by the verdant hills of the Green Mountains. The lakeside towns of Burlington, Shelburne, and Colchester all make strategic basecamps from which to explore the lake, or you can take your pick of 13 Vermont state parks around the lake. Cruising out to the Lake Champlain Islands is a must, and Grand Isle State Park on South Hero Island has one of the region’s most popular campgrounds. An added bonus: Campers get free beach access in Knight Point State Park on North Hero Island.

Montreal & Quebec

Lake Champlain’s northern shore spills over into the Canadian province of Quebec, fringed by sandy beaches, lush parks, and marinas. Head to Venise-en-Quebec to enjoy water sports and boat cruises through the summer months, or base yourself in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu along the Richelieu River. Both have options for campers.
