Camping in the Catskills

Just over two hours away from New York City, this mountain region is loved for its rolling green hills, pristine forests, and hidden waterfalls. The natural beauty has drawn visitors for over a century, leaving a history of grand resorts and hotels. The Catskill Mountains are the birthplace of fly fishing, as well as a popular destination for skiing, hiking, kayaking and, of course, camping.

Summer is the high season for campers when the comfortable temperatures lure folks away from the sweltering city. Autumn has fans, too. Visitors come as the trees change color, recasting the land in brilliant oranges and reds.

Kaaterskill Falls is perhaps the most famous scenic spot. This stunning waterfall cascades down over 250-feet. The falls have inspired artists for centuries, including several Hudson River School painters. The North-South Lake campground is close by. The largest of the New York State campgrounds, this spot has many family-friendly amenities, including beaches, boat rentals, and hiking trails.

Experienced hikers come to the Devil's Path to tackle one of the country's most difficult--and dangerous--hiking trails. The path takes hikers over some of the highest peaks, including Hunter Mountain. In the winter, this mountain is a major thrill for skiers and snowboarders. The Hunter Mountain Skyride has chair lifts that take you to the top most days of the year.

The Esopus Creek offers some of the best fly fishing in the country, particularly for trout. For a home base, check out the Kenneth L. Wilson campground, just a short drive from Mt. Tremper. The ground is on Wilson Lake and has a fishing pier to cast off into the shallow water.

You can also explore the Catskill Forest Preserve by water, following the many tributaries and lakes. Little Pond campground is a nice jumping off point. In addition to tent sites, there are several remote campgrounds off the beaten path for more seclusion. Just down the road are Big Lake and Alder Lake, two favorite spots for flat-water paddling. Motorboats aren't allowed, so small craft have the water all to themselves.

There is also an artisan pizza spot with indoor/outdoor seating, hipster vibes and fun cocktails and live music @ thedaleNY For shopping you can also stop by @ forageandgather - they have foods, meats, gourmet deli and coffee and carry all the little things you may have forgotten to bring along in addition to a locally and craft focused wine and spirits shop. There is also a lovely yoga studio and bollywood dance spot in addition to some other delightful gems in town. There is superb hiking nearby at Neversink Unique Area in Rock Hill. Also Bashakill trails (and conveniently a vineyard with tastings and events right nearby). Your'e also about 30 minutes away from super cute fun larger towns and attractions like New Paltz, Livingston Manor, and tons of incredible Catskill hiking and nature opportunities. NOTE! There's an excellent Farmers Market on Saturday's in Rock Hill from 10-1pm from June to September also. Come find us there! In our barn (now home to Gardiner Brewing Company) he had gravity fed water troughs for his cattle. Since then we have slowly switched from animals to tree fruit. You will enjoy rolling hills of fruit trees and fruit gardens along with beautiful views of the Shawangunk Mountain Ridge. We have 450+ acres so it in very private. As we are a working farm, you can see us driving pass with our tractors or maintaining the orchard around your campsite on occasion. You are welcome to ride your bikes, hike or jog where you will pass ponds and a working farm landscape. Please don’t pick our fruit. If you would like to enjoy the fruits of our labor please visit our farm store open year round on the premises where we sell cheeses, our fresh picked fruit and veggies, local meats, and our famous cider donuts along with other farm products. We also have a farm brewery open 3-7 in our old dairy barn for you to enjoy. Live music Saturdays and Sundays. Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk Reserve are only 10 minutes away. The rail trail is three minutes away. This trail gives you walking and biking access into New Paltz, where there is tons of restaurants and lots of shopping. Not suitable for parties or loud groups. For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinarily beautiful spots on earth that make you feel like you are in another world. It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below. The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by. Within a 5 miles radius is a general store, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, Rooted Movement, the Sap Bush Country Store and Café, and Mustang Valley (a wild mustang sanctuary). Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, and others.

The Monguap River is close enough to be seen and heard from the cabin, but the adventure of getting there is half the fun! The Delaware River is only 2 miles from our location, and River rafting is a big business around here. A small artesian-fed creek runs right next to the cabin. It lends to the relaxing sounds of water with many quaint spots for you to dip your toes into, paired with a wood-fired tub that feeds off of the stream, which can only be explained by experience (weather-dependent). Our hot tub also pairs beautifully with our newest addition to the cabin, our sauna! Perfect for a cold plunge afterwards (more information in the add-on description)! A queen temper-pedic bed and super comfy overstuffed futon will assure a good night's slumber. The Record Room's covered outdoor kitchen is designed to extend the awesome vibes into every meal.. (I.E., Flat top grill, single burner, and stainless grate grill all powered by propane, cast iron frying pans, and utensils). Our outhouse is designed and maintained by the women of the family, and great pride is taken in making it a favorable experience. A small wood stove heats the Record Room on chilly mornings and nights. If you're looking for the fine line between camping and glamping, this is your place! We recommend having some prior camping expertise, and we must mention that there is no WiFi/ service. We have a few spots available for your friend circle to pitch a tent and enjoy the experience with you! A basic convenience store can be located three miles to the right of our property with all your basic needs (including gas). For your grocery shopping, a small family-owned market can be found within 10 minutes up the road. If you're looking for activities, there are plenty of rafting/canoeing/kayaking companies for your enjoyment. This campsite is nestled in the deep woods of a 120 acre farm that offers beautiful views coming and going. After being allowed to use the restroom at the stone farmhouse, you will then go rustic and start your 3/4 - 1 mile hike in (approximately 20 minutes to the campsite) past the fields and pond down the path into the woods. The trail is remote and you will instantly be able to leave the sights and sounds of civilization behind you and breath the clean forest air. Wear good hiking shoes because portions of the hike are uneven and rocky. This site is best for experienced campers who know how to pack light with just the essentials as there is no tractor service to this campsite. When you arrive at the campsite, you will be within 20 feet of a year round stream with brook trout and in a hundred foot tall hemlock canopy nestled between two brook meadows. A 9,000 acre forested preserve abuts our property so you will be able to completely relax, bird watch, enjoy the wildlife, or fish for a brook trout breakfast without hearing the sounds of anyone but yourselves. The campsite has a stone fire pit, split log benches for seating, a canvas privacy blind around a stand of trees where the composting toilet resides, and a food bag lift to attach your food and trash bags to about 100 yards from the campsite. Unlimited Split firewood is free next to where you will park that you can take down to the site. All trash needs to be carted out with you. We can't accept mixed trash as it will attract animals that will knock over the trashcans and make a mess. No food goes in our personal trashcans as we have learned this the hard way. The River's Edge campsites sit on the shoreline of the Delaware River at the western edge of New York State overlooking the mountains of Pennsylvania. Our canvas tents and open air platforms perch between the river and the former Delaware & Hudson Canal which was once was used to transport raw goods by barge to New York City via the 'port' of Port Jervis. The remnants of the canal walls are throughout the property including a 300 person theater which we created to both preserve and feature this industrial history. It also makes a great place for an event or a movie night. Today, the original canal towpath, along which barges would be pulled and floated downstream, is a trail that links all of the campsites over 5 acres and at the furthest end an eel fishing camp that is in operation from June to October (say 'hi' to Jim). In the early 1900s, the train replaced the canal as the primary method of moving goods into New York and if you are lucky — you will hear the train rumble by along the river on the Pennsylvania side. There is something spectacular in the absolute still and grandness of the river, the mountains and the ongoing industrial history of the valley. It is a reminder of the way things used to be. The farmhouse and cabins are located opposite the campsites on other side of route 97. Next to them are 50 acres of wild forest to hike and explore. These accommodations are great for guests who want more amenities but still with easy access to river. Pair campsites and cabins so that all your guests have their best experience. This land was once all pasture for grazing animals. We moved to Delaware County in November 2018 to start our family and pursue dreams of working on the land. The initial idea was to find a place we could live, garden, and raise a few animals while hosting guests and sharing the land with visitors. When we found this place on Williams Road, we loved the mix of rural and proximity to a thriving country town. We now have two kids and enjoy living in Delhi so much we hardly leave the town limits! There are wonderful restaurants, a great year-round farmers market, grocery stores, and many other services and amenities you can find listed towards the end of this guide. Our Catskill Mountain home is situated on a historic early 19th century farm site. Parts of the house might be more than 190 years old! With several additions and upgrades we think the house has lots of charm and enjoy the many modern touches. The property is overgrown pastures and a few steeper slopes with medium growth trees. After the industrial period saw this region nearly deforested, the land was granted to settlers who cleared fields and planted grass. Our immediate vicinity was knows for it’s cattle (Bovina), mostly for diary, and sheep. The agriculture in Delaware County has been on a decline since the advent of rail shipping opened New York City markets to farms in less challenging geographies. Construction of the NYC fresh water system (DEP Watershed) may have contributed to this decline, but about 60-70 years ago the majority of pastures, especially less productive parcels were abandoned to the “weed trees”. These first succession trees grew quickly in the sunny meadows and covered the hills; trees such as Ash, Hawthorn, and Norway Spruce. Fences and barns were left to return to the earth. On our property the stone walls that boarder the fields are the most stark reminder of the intensive agriculture practiced here.

There are no swimming holes on our property, but many waterfalls and swimming spots within a short drive (see list below). A quick 5 minute drive will get you to one of the best disc golf courses in the north east. For the truly adventurous, Clarksville Cave is a short drive away. It is tucked in between the Hudson River (8 miles to the East) and the Catskill Mountains (10 miles to the west). It is just 6 miles from the Village of Saugerties and 14 miles to Woodstock, NY. The piece available for camping is 10 acres, but the entire Garden is comprised of 98 acres of rolling land (most of it in a forestry protection plan) bordered on the west by acres of marshland. Many trails criss-cross the Garden and lead one to pretty or interesting vistas including a large mountain laurel patch, ancient graveyard, and different stands of mixed wood forests. There’s lots of wildlife both on land and in the marshes.

Summer is the high season for campers when the comfortable temperatures lure folks away from the sweltering city. Autumn has fans, too. Visitors come as the trees change color, recasting the land in brilliant oranges and reds.

Kaaterskill Falls is perhaps the most famous scenic spot. This stunning waterfall cascades down over 250-feet. The falls have inspired artists for centuries, including several Hudson River School painters. The North-South Lake campground is close by. The largest of the New York State campgrounds, this spot has many family-friendly amenities, including beaches, boat rentals, and hiking trails.

Experienced hikers come to the Devil's Path to tackle one of the country's most difficult--and dangerous--hiking trails. The path takes hikers over some of the highest peaks, including Hunter Mountain. In the winter, this mountain is a major thrill for skiers and snowboarders. The Hunter Mountain Skyride has chair lifts that take you to the top most days of the year.

The Esopus Creek offers some of the best fly fishing in the country, particularly for trout. For a home base, check out the Kenneth L. Wilson campground, just a short drive from Mt. Tremper. The ground is on Wilson Lake and has a fishing pier to cast off into the shallow water.

You can also explore the Catskill Forest Preserve by water, following the many tributaries and lakes. Little Pond campground is a nice jumping off point. In addition to tent sites, there are several remote campgrounds off the beaten path for more seclusion. Just down the road are Big Lake and Alder Lake, two favorite spots for flat-water paddling. Motorboats aren't allowed, so small craft have the water all to themselves.

It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below. The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by. The Monguap River is close enough to be seen and heard from the cabin, but the adventure of getting there is half the fun! The Delaware River is only 2 miles from our location, and River rafting is a big business around here. A small artesian-fed creek runs right next to the cabin. It lends to the relaxing sounds of water with many quaint spots for you to dip your toes into, paired with a wood-fired tub that feeds off of the stream, which can only be explained by experience (weather-dependent). Our hot tub also pairs beautifully with our newest addition to the cabin, our sauna! Perfect for a cold plunge afterwards (more information in the add-on description)! A queen temper-pedic bed and super comfy overstuffed futon will assure a good night's slumber. The Record Room's covered outdoor kitchen is designed to extend the awesome vibes into every meal.. (I.E., Flat top grill, single burner, and stainless grate grill all powered by propane, cast iron frying pans, and utensils). Our outhouse is designed and maintained by the women of the family, and great pride is taken in making it a favorable experience. A small wood stove heats the Record Room on chilly mornings and nights. If you're looking for the fine line between camping and glamping, this is your place! We recommend having some prior camping expertise, and we must mention that there is no WiFi/ service. This campsite is nestled in the deep woods of a 120 acre farm that offers beautiful views coming and going. After being allowed to use the restroom at the stone farmhouse, you will then go rustic and start your 3/4 - 1 mile hike in (approximately 20 minutes to the campsite) past the fields and pond down the path into the woods. The trail is remote and you will instantly be able to leave the sights and sounds of civilization behind you and breath the clean forest air. Wear good hiking shoes because portions of the hike are uneven and rocky. This site is best for experienced campers who know how to pack light with just the essentials as there is no tractor service to this campsite. When you arrive at the campsite, you will be within 20 feet of a year round stream with brook trout and in a hundred foot tall hemlock canopy nestled between two brook meadows. A 9,000 acre forested preserve abuts our property so you will be able to completely relax, bird watch, enjoy the wildlife, or fish for a brook trout breakfast without hearing the sounds of anyone but yourselves. The campsite has a stone fire pit, split log benches for seating, a canvas privacy blind around a stand of trees where the composting toilet resides, and a food bag lift to attach your food and trash bags to about 100 yards from the campsite. Unlimited Split firewood is free next to where you will park that you can take down to the site. All trash needs to be carted out with you. We can't accept mixed trash as it will attract animals that will knock over the trashcans and make a mess. No food goes in our personal trashcans as we have learned this the hard way. The River's Edge campsites sit on the shoreline of the Delaware River at the western edge of New York State overlooking the mountains of Pennsylvania. Our canvas tents and open air platforms perch between the river and the former Delaware & Hudson Canal which was once was used to transport raw goods by barge to New York City via the 'port' of Port Jervis. The remnants of the canal walls are throughout the property including a 300 person theater which we created to both preserve and feature this industrial history. It also makes a great place for an event or a movie night. Today, the original canal towpath, along which barges would be pulled and floated downstream, is a trail that links all of the campsites over 5 acres and at the furthest end an eel fishing camp that is in operation from June to October (say 'hi' to Jim). In the early 1900s, the train replaced the canal as the primary method of moving goods into New York and if you are lucky — you will hear the train rumble by along the river on the Pennsylvania side. There is something spectacular in the absolute still and grandness of the river, the mountains and the ongoing industrial history of the valley. It is a reminder of the way things used to be. The farmhouse and cabins are located opposite the campsites on other side of route 97. Next to them are 50 acres of wild forest to hike and explore. These accommodations are great for guests who want more amenities but still with easy access to river. Pair campsites and cabins so that all your guests have their best experience. This land was once all pasture for grazing animals. We moved to Delaware County in November 2018 to start our family and pursue dreams of working on the land. The initial idea was to find a place we could live, garden, and raise a few animals while hosting guests and sharing the land with visitors. When we found this place on Williams Road, we loved the mix of rural and proximity to a thriving country town. We now have two kids and enjoy living in Delhi so much we hardly leave the town limits! There are wonderful restaurants, a great year-round farmers market, grocery stores, and many other services and amenities you can find listed towards the end of this guide. Our Catskill Mountain home is situated on a historic early 19th century farm site. Parts of the house might be more than 190 years old! With several additions and upgrades we think the house has lots of charm and enjoy the many modern touches. The property is overgrown pastures and a few steeper slopes with medium growth trees. After the industrial period saw this region nearly deforested, the land was granted to settlers who cleared fields and planted grass. Our immediate vicinity was knows for it’s cattle (Bovina), mostly for diary, and sheep. The agriculture in Delaware County has been on a decline since the advent of rail shipping opened New York City markets to farms in less challenging geographies. Construction of the NYC fresh water system (DEP Watershed) may have contributed to this decline, but about 60-70 years ago the majority of pastures, especially less productive parcels were abandoned to the “weed trees”. These first succession trees grew quickly in the sunny meadows and covered the hills; trees such as Ash, Hawthorn, and Norway Spruce. Fences and barns were left to return to the earth. On our property the stone walls that boarder the fields are the most stark reminder of the intensive agriculture practiced here.

This land was once all pasture for grazing animals. We moved to Delaware County in November 2018 to start our family and pursue dreams of working on the land. The initial idea was to find a place we could live, garden, and raise a few animals while hosting guests and sharing the land with visitors. When we found this place on Williams Road, we loved the mix of rural and proximity to a thriving country town. We now have two kids and enjoy living in Delhi so much we hardly leave the town limits! There are wonderful restaurants, a great year-round farmers market, grocery stores, and many other services and amenities you can find listed towards the end of this guide. Our Catskill Mountain home is situated on a historic early 19th century farm site. Parts of the house might be more than 190 years old! With several additions and upgrades we think the house has lots of charm and enjoy the many modern touches. The property is overgrown pastures and a few steeper slopes with medium growth trees. After the industrial period saw this region nearly deforested, the land was granted to settlers who cleared fields and planted grass. Our immediate vicinity was knows for it’s cattle (Bovina), mostly for diary, and sheep. The agriculture in Delaware County has been on a decline since the advent of rail shipping opened New York City markets to farms in less challenging geographies. Construction of the NYC fresh water system (DEP Watershed) may have contributed to this decline, but about 60-70 years ago the majority of pastures, especially less productive parcels were abandoned to the “weed trees”. These first succession trees grew quickly in the sunny meadows and covered the hills; trees such as Ash, Hawthorn, and Norway Spruce. Fences and barns were left to return to the earth. On our property the stone walls that boarder the fields are the most stark reminder of the intensive agriculture practiced here.

This place was so great that when I sent photos to my wife she told me to get three more nights, called out sick from work on Friday and hopped on a bus to meet me. Hiking path. Clean. Nicely mowed. You can barely see your neighbor over the meadow. In my wife's book it gets extra credit for being down the street from a historic church - we walked there on Sunday for services.

This was perfect! We stayed for a night on a cool fall night. Lots of space, and included a picnic table and fire ring. The brewery was great (we were there on a Saturday) the portapotty is a bit of a walk from this particular site, but it wasn’t too bad! The farmers market was walkable, but also a short drive. Be sure to check out the farmers market while you are there! Would definitely stay again.

Welcome to Trails Head Cabin! Fully renovated a couple of years ago, this quaint and rustic cabin has reclaimed barn wood doors and accent walls hand built by my husband, Rich. The cabin is located on a quiet dead end road, this cabin sits at the head of the Neversink River unique area and offers activities such as hiking, fishing and hunting. There are a variety of bars and restaurants located in the small town of Rock Hill, as well as our local Farmer's Market every Saturday only during the summer months. The cabin is a short trip away from the local grocery store, a five minute drive to Resorts World Casino and Holiday Mountain Ski and Fun Park. A twenty-five minute drive to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts (sight of the 1969 Woodstock Festival). OTHER DETAILS TO NOTE: Please respect our non-smoking policy. There is absolutely NO smoking of any kind allowed in the cabin. A $200 charge will be applied if you do smoke inside to cover the additional cleaning costs. No Drugs or illegal activity. No Smoking or vaping. No incense or candles. We always like our guests to know ahead of time that there is mild to moderate vehicle and foot traffic near the hiking trails during the day. As this location has become more and more popular, the individuals who come to hike, bike, fish, hunt, etc. are required to parallel park their cars on the opposite side of the road. However, our property is private and clearly posted, and may only be used by our guests. The cell phone service is very weak when you first arrive at the cabin however, once you are connected to the WiFi you should have capability to call and text. There is no running water but we provide one gallon of drinking water and one gallon of water for washing up in the bathroom. You can add-on our outdoors camping shower setup for an additional $30, which is more like a birdbath than a real shower, but you can add hot water so it is warm. Sit on our gorgeous rocking chairs on the deck and grill, and stargaze from bed through the dome in the ceiling.Please also note that there are extra charges for more than 2 guests ($15/ person/ night), pets ($25/ stay), propane for heat (if needed- $25/ tank) mini-propane for gas grill ($10) wood bundle for outdoor fire ($15) and outdoor shower setup ($30 for us to fill with water, provide biodegradable soap, and two towels). You can add these to your booking under 'Extras'Please read through all details below to help prepare you for your stay : )WifiWe have excellent high-speed fiberoptic Wifi. There is no cell service, so make sure to save it before you arrive. SoundExpect to hear all the sounds of nature that you hear when sleeping in a tent. When you end your trip and leave the Yurt, and/or when the toilet is 2/3 full, please tie shut the compostable bag and dump the bag into our compost. Every time you use the outdoor compost, please cover what you have disposed of with either leaves or the hay provided in the center bin. (If you are only staying for 1-2 nights and would prefer not to do this, that is totally fine! Just let us know you didn’t get a chance to bring it out.)There is a pitcher with water and a wash bin for brushing teeth/ washing hands in the bathroom. You can empty the wash bin outside when finished using it. We also provide all-purpose soap.HeatThe Yurt is well insulated and runs on a propane heater. Please note that propane is not included in your stay and each tank is $25; you can find them under add-ons.  Each propane tank will comfortably heat the yurt a night as cold as 30-degree night up to 24hrs.  Decide how many tanks you'd like depending how long you are staying or how cold you expect it to be. The Yurt will comfortabl heat freezing nights as well, it just will use propane more quickly.WaterWe provide a full Berkey full of filtered, clean water from our well with each visit. We also provide a pitcher of water in the bathroom for brushing teeth and washing hands and face. If you are staying longer than two nights, or if you expect for any reason to use more water than provided, we ask that you bring the additional water with you, keeping in mind it is a short (4-minute) hike from parking to the Yurt. In some cases with enough notice we may be able to provide additional water for your stay for an additional charge.KitchenetteWe provide a Berkey full of filtered water, an electric kettle, a mini fridge and freezer, a microwave for use during your stay. We provide a gas Cuisinart Grill for use on the deck. If you plan to use the grill, please do a $10 mini-propane add-on so we can make sure there is fresh propane provided. We also provide cups, wine glasses, a French Press for coffee making, and compostable plates and bowls. Please do not put the plastic plates and mugs in the microwave.Please throw any compostable food into the compost bin or compost bag provided in the kitchenette and empty it into our large outdoor compost bin at the end of each day. Every time you use the outdoor compost, please cover what you have disposed of with either leaves or the hay provided in the center bin. Please keep any meat and dairy products and trash in airtight sealed containers in the Yurt until you are able to dispose of them. ShowerIf you add-on the Shower Setup ($30) we will fill it with water, and provide 2 towels and biodegradable soap. This is an outdoors camping shower enclosed by shower curtains with a dirt floor; it is very rudimentary, but if you add warm water from the kettle it will be nice and warm. Please do not use any of your own products like soap, shampoo, or conditioner in the shower because it will be bad for the forest floor. Trash—-Please dispose of regular trash and recycling in our regular trash cans across from where you park. Walton automatically sorts recycling from trash so both can go in the same bins (we separate our recycling in a different bag just so the trash doesn’t contaminate it, but put it in the same bin as the trash.)  —-Compost (fruit + veggie scraps, tea + coffee grounds, toilet bag) gets taken to outdoor compost bin on path to parking and covered with hay or leaves—-Meat + dairy stays sealed in an airtight container when in the Yurt and taken with you when you leaveRules1) Please remove shoes as soon as you enter the Yurt2) Please scoop sawdust anytime you use the toilet, and please take the toilet sawdust out to the compost bin once it is 2/3 of the way full or when you leave, whichever comes first. The campsite is neighboring 105 acres of beautiful conservatory land available for hiking. No true trails are available, but you can be adventurous and hike further up the mountain, arriving to a clearing, providing you with a lovely mountainous view. From the mountain, you can hike to a waterfall or even hike across a lovely plain field surrounded by mountain ranges on both sides and crossing the creek over to Historic Stone houses in Hurley. Within a 10 minute drive check out some of the local restaurants like Alebrijes, Hickory BBQ & Smokehouse, and the Hurley Inn where the movie “Tootsie” was filmed!. Hurley Marbletown Trailhead and Rail trail parking are only a 6 minute drive away! The town of Kingston is about 15 minutes from our site where you will find Bluestone Wild Forest, antique shops, restaurants, other outdoor activities! The nights are just spectacular as you look into the sky surrounded by a blanket of stars, able to see the many constellations looking like jewels on a black cloth. The sounds of nature and all of it's distinct calls including that of eagles, is truly an experience. And we cannot forget our other friendly neighbors, the wild turkeys and deer! Primitive Camp on the Esopus Creek in the Big Indian-Oliverea Valley surrounded by seven 3500' Catskill High Peaks including Slide Mountain, the tallest in the Catskills. Our PRIVATE camp (no other campers) is situated on 100 acres of land in the middle of the Catskill State Park. We are the closest HipCamp site to Slide Mountain, the Catskills tallest peak at 4180 feet. A perfect base camp for some of the best hiking in the Catskills, the site is bordered by Forever Wild Forest and is minutes from the trailheads to Balsam, Giant Ledge, Panther, Big Indian, Slide Mountain and dozens more peaks within 30 minutes or so away. Though the base fee covers up to 4 campers, the site accommodates up to 14 campers. The additional fee is $20.00/per camper per night on top of the base fee. Our drive up camp has a 10X12 covered tent platform, several individual tent sites with private fire rings, as well as a bunkhouse and a leanto for day use. The camp table and cook pit are covered from the elements. For toilet use, we have a CleanWaste loo which is a 5 gal bucket in a toilet seat box. You lift the lid, place a CleanWaste bag in the bucket which has a kitty litter like powder called Poo Powder in it. You do your business, the powder absorbs all the odor and gels all the matter. When done, you lift the seat, take out the bag, tie it up and throw it in the trash. There are camp rules about how to handle trash, recycling, and compost so as to minimize the possibility of black bear visits. Follow those rules so as to avoid a penalty fees of $50.00 if trash, recycling, and compost are not followed. A detailed message about trash, recycling, and compost practice will be sent to campers days before the booked trip. Seasoned bundled 16" firewood is available by honor box cash payment on Brown rd across the camp entry road.
