Sandra was fantastic! Her space was absolutely beautiful and she set us up with everything we needed. As her first stay, she was still setting up the kitchen area, but the tent and bathhouse was stocked and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. A few thunderstorms occurred while we stayed and did not have any issues with water leaking or wetness inside the tent. Our dogs loved running around and having space to explore. It was so nice waking up and sitting in the deck watching the turkeys and horses. We will most definitely be back when visiting family.

2 nights at Lynx Run Wilderness Retreat

I stayed at the Secluded Paradise. It was an easy pull up location and I had a tent that sleeps 8 with lots of room for another tent or two if stacked up right. There was a nice sprawling rope hammock provided. Now for the views... OH MY GOSH!! Gorgeous!! This site was on top edge of the valley with a small trail down to creek on both sides. Down one side is a little stone bench to sit and admire (lose your self in the ambience) of the babbling waters. Nice clear shallow waters to wade in gently or sit and cool off in. Made more magical at night as the fireflys come out to dance. I will be visiting again (wife already wants to see the fall colors!) Now the bathrooms were 3 minute casual walk up the driveway to the main house. There is a little pond (bullfrogs/turtles) and the main courtyard of flowers/plants. Nice little flush toilets with shower and sinks makes it feel a little bit of an escape from reality with convience. Stove/kitchen access was offered but wheres the fun of not cooking on the fire. Main house had a cool collection of oddities and animal bones, feather/fur or head mounts. Very friendly host and wonderful interactions with anyone whos path I/we crossed. The chickens were free range but I never saw them come to my campsite but you would see/hear them and the cat was adorable and an excellent hunter (saw him catch a small rodent in the wild).

4 nights at Life Adventures

It's rare to find a HipCamp with either a shower OR electric. Stephen's "Life Adventures" has that PLUS a beautiful quiet location. Add Luke the mascot black lab and wild raspberries...what's not to love? What a great use of a former summer camp! Be prepared for mosquitoes if there has been rain recently. This is my third year of HipCamping, and Steve's lovely retreat is far and away the best location I've visited thus far. Many thanks to a wonderful host!

5 nights at Life Adventures

Peace, quiet, and simplicity among the black walnut trees. I stayed in the small cabin which had just what I needed. Cleverly designed, this 8 foot by 10 foot space had a mini fridge, microwave, shelf, table, and futon. The front covered porch is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sun cresting over the trees at dawn or painting last light on field next door. Rain isn’t an obstacle here, it’s a reason to pull out a board game in the pavilion and share with your neighbors. Life Adventures is all about a good, clean, fun camping experience. In fact, this space is available to rent for events like family reunions and weddings. Stephen was kind and courteous. He checked in on everyone I saw. The neighbors I talked to said they stayed at the campground many times and they plan to come back. I have to say, I agree. Camp is close to small towns that are reminiscent of antique stores and ice cream shops next to lazy rivers. If you’re hoping to see more nature, the North Country Trail is very near this campground. The NCT offers some moderate hikes and you may pass through hikers heading up to the Huron-Manistee National Forest. Talk to Stephen, he is a wealth of knowledge about the area. Key Camp Cabin Points: 1. Bring sheets 2. Bring microwavable plates/bowls/storage 3. Bring reusable hand towels 4. Bring biodegradable cleaner (Dr. Bronner’s?) Leave it better than you found it. Pack it in? Pack it out. Nature is waiting for you, go find it!

Weekend Trip to Riverside Retreat at New Richmond

The cabin at Riverside was absolutely adorable! All the ambience of a true fishing cabin from long ago. Julie and Bill were fantastic hosts. The communication was spectacular and they responded to us immediately when a little hiccup occurred. The cabin is situated right on the river and there are boats and kayakers waving as they pass. There is a train directly across the street hidden by some trees, so you will hear the train noises, but that didn’t bother us any. It’s not a secluded site, but you still have privacy. You really only need to bring your clothes because everything else has been provided for you. Fennville is a cute little town with a surprisingly well appointed grocery store and some great dining spots. It’s a short distance to Saugatuck, Holland, and a little farther to South Haven. We had a great day and would love to come back again to do some kayaking! Thank you, Bill and Julie!

I had a great time staying in the Grand Cabin! Ed was super helpful giving us a tour on arrival and had great local recommendations. The cabin was in a great location to go spend a day at one of the nearby state park beaches. We loved coming home to hammock and have a campfire!

Weekend Trip to Life Adventures

It was a super affordable place to get away for a night, so we didn't expect anything fancy. Staying here is basically staying at a small campground. The cabin is a small shed made up as a little cabin. The large awnings were useful, the whole thing sits on a concrete slab. Looked like a tree fell through one of the awnings and there were materials there, probably to fix it. A large fire pit was full of ash, a broken rock climbing wall was nearby. There's a large bathroom facility with a shower, and a few camping sites nearby. The cabin is not out by itself, but amongst all this. Neighbors were nice. Luke, the camp dog, was a sweetheart. Inside the cabin, there's a tiny refrigerator and a little microwave and a couple outlets. The queen bed was on the stiffer side but very comfortable. There is no AC or heat. Once we aired the heat out of the room, it was pleasant inside. Overall, we had a good time. It's close to town, you can see the stars at night, it's quiet, and it wasn't crowded. It's quite a bargain. Met the owner briefly as he was doing some work around the camp. Pleasant and polite. We walked some of the trails, which were nice. I recommend a stay.

We had a great time camping here, the portapotty was clean, minimal mosquitoes, and a bundle of firewood was provided. The food truck was great too!

This campground is perfect for a getaway. Mike is amazing and helped us put our kayaks in the river so we could have a nice float back down to the campsite. There are showers and working toilets. We will be back!

This fun property is just under 7 acres - butted up to another 12 acres of public land (and boat launch) with trails, boardwalk and a dock on 51 acre Lake Eleven. The property is shared by (2) full-hook up RV sites and a cabin. If available, the cabin and sites may be rented together however the owners, Jim and Maria, use the cabin much of the summer leaving just the RV sites available. The property is at mile market 13 of the Kal-Haven Trail - the midpoint. The Kal-Haven Trail is a biking, cross-country skiing, walking, running, snowmobiling - you name it, the trail that goes 34 miles from Kalamazoo to South Haven. Literally steps from the property and you are on the trail. But you may not need to leave the property, with 6.3 acres of woods and field, with trail cut through PLUS the added public lands butted up to Tincan's property line, giving almost 20 acres to roam. Each RV site - far enough apart to be separate, close enough if you and friends/family want to camp together, has a fire pit and fireplace. Each RV site offers water, 30|50AMP electrical and septic. The dock may have availability for keeping you boat - please inquire. There are kayaks and some bikes (mostly teen and adult size) that may be used. These are shared amenities for the cabin and campsite guests and offered on a first come, first serve basis. There are surprises galore around the property; big foots to be found tucked around the property, games, and overall just a fun place to be. This was a run-down fishing cabin Jim and Maria lovingly brough back to life as a second home and they delight in sharing it. Jim often referred to it as "The Tincan" while working on it as it was - indeed, a tin shack and the name stuck. Kate, your booking coordinator, helps Jim and Maria tend to the administrative side of getting the property booked and keeping the details in order. For a total of 13 options. 2Chicks And A Farm is a small working farm on 20 acres, owned and run by Julie and Theresa Graham. We are 13 minutes from South Haven and the lake. 30 minutes from the city of Kalamazoo. And just under an hour from Grand Rapids. About half of the 20 acres is wooded, which is where three of our camp sites, Hammock Haven are located. Each site has a fire ring & picnic table. One site, capable of taking a mid sized RV / Fifth Wheel, is located on the front of the property with easy access from the road. It backs up to some trails and brush/wood area and has a corn field to the right. So, even though on the front on the property, you have a feeling of privacy. It too has a fire pit and picnic table. Three camp sites are located in the pasture. One is at the bottom of the pasture (1) and quite open. It can accommodate larger groups with multiple tents. A more secluded site (5) is half open and half in light woods., and is located at the top of the pasture. The others are in the middle of the pasture, 2 for sun lovers and 3 for those who prefer more shade. For those who prefer more seclusion, we have cleared three sites in the woods. All sites have a fire ring, or metal fire pit, and picnic table. Some have fire wood boxes (we’re working on making a box for all sites). We have an outdoor propane shower that provides both hot and cold water. This is free. A coffee bar is on the back deck. Coffee is brewing around 7am. We also provide hot water, teas, hot chocolate and cider. Feeling a little peckish before breakfast, or after dinner? Help yourself to a snack. This is all free, though small donations are welcomed. Our goats, poultry, pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs and produce take up about an acre and a half. Then the rest is open space. You are welcome to collect eggs for breakfast and fresh produce from our gardens (additional fee). Use the BBQ or smoker. And even join in on farm chores if you are so inclined. Please try to plan to check-in by 9pm. Exceptions can be made. There are locally mandated quiet hours (10-7 Sun through Thur, and 11-7 Fri and Sat). Hanging out by a fire and chatting is fine.

Lynx Run Wilderness Retreat

My property (Lynx Run) has an amazing geological and historical background. During the last ice age, glacial waters carved out the ravine in which the Betts Creek flows. Sometimes, the creek drops over 60 feet below the surrounding terrain as it meanders back and forth in oxbows as it flows toward the Muskegon River. It was once the hunting, foraging and camping grounds of the Potawatami Indians. In the late 1800's it was at the center of the Michigan Timber Industry. Running along the edge of my property is the old railroad bed where timber was once hauled away. Only two miles from my home, the logs were sent down the side of the hill and into the Muskegon River on log chutes and then floated to where the Muskegon empties into Lake Michigan. Piles of field stones indicate that after the timber industry moved on, farmers moved in and attempted to tame the land. But, fortunately for me, the land was abandoned by the farmers and has returned to a much more natural and pristine state. My land is now a part of the Manistee National Forest and I am surrounded by thousands of acres of beautiful land (both public and private). I am the only person who lives back here in this part of the forest, so seclusion and privacy are wonderful and the wildlife and beauty is abundant.

Both have 30 and standard 110 electric, plus water. --1 Standard RV site can accommodate 1 RV (5th wheel, travel trailer, pop up, Class C etc. NO Class A's allowed). Or, can be used as a tent site IF the tent only site is already booked. Pump out is available for a fee. --1 Tent only site. To be booked first before the Standard RV site. However, both sites are next to each other with same view. There is plenty of room to set up games, fish, play with the kids or the dogs, etc. What's not to like? It is your very own exclusive home away from home. If you don't have an RV or a tent and want to still come and visit, no problem. Rent one of our RVs or rent our tent. PLEASE NOTE: We are not a commercial campground or a business. However, there are certain rules that must be adhered to per the agreement with our local township and our neighbors along our shared private road. Property is adjacent to Connor Bayou County Park and is surrounded by natural wetlands. Perfect place to unwind, chill, enjoy the fresh air and picture perfect sunsets. Boating, swimming, jet skis, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing are just a few of the things to enjoy on the water. Bring your own boat, jet ski, kayak or rent from nearby establishments. One of many public boat launches is just a couple minute ride and Connor Bayou County Park has a kayak specific boat launch. You can also drop a kayak in at the very west end of our property right from shore. If you are bringing your own boat, jet ski, kayak and have a separate trailer, parking of that trailer must be pre-authorized due to limited space. Please inquire. Hiking, biking and wildlife, bird/eagle watching are also in the area. Spring Lake, Lake Michigan, beaches, various state/county parks, downtown Grand Haven's shops and restaurants are just a short drive away. Holland is about 30 minutes south and also has a cute downtown, craft beers, and beaches. PJ Hoffmaster State Park is 20 minutes North. If you are a thrill seeker Michigan's Adventure Amusement and Waterpark is only 30 minutes North in Muskegon. There are also many wineries, ciders and craft beer in Southwest Michigan. And many blueberry farms around too. Bottom line....there is plenty of things to do and see during your visit. You can be as active or as chill as you want to be.
