Overall we had a great weekend at Cabin in the Woods! Unfortunately it did have a couple quirks that made the place feel very lived in. I.e. clean personal clothes in the laundry upon arrival, garage door left wide open, lots of items left in the fridge/freezer. The lack of wifi/service was also a bummer when it came to safety/directions. There was no fire extinguisher present from what I could see - and trust me I looked.

This weekend was nothing short of magical. The cabin itself tells a story, and you can feel the love that went into it. Michael, the owner, built it by hand, and the details and imperfections only added to its charm. With no Wi-Fi and just enough service to text the kids goodnight, we fully embraced the peace and quiet. There were books and a collection of DVDs that brought back so many nostalgic memories. There is a sport court where we played some one-on-one basketball like kids again. This cabin truly allowed us to recharge our souls and gave us space to simply be together, without distractions.
The property is beautiful—35 acres of trails to explore, including a hidden treehouse that was a joy to discover, even though we couldn’t go inside. We biked the Fredrick Meijer Trail to Greenville (about 12 miles from the Cabin), where we found Flat River Brewing and had a beer and then headed to Hop Hog and enjoyed some delicious BBQ.
Would absolutely book another trip here again in the future!

The house was a great change in the way we stayed somewhere. Michael's price was excellent and much better then paying to stay at a hotel. The location is great as it's near a ton of cool places. We went to the John Ball zoo in Grand Rapids, the Air Zoo in Kalamazoo, and Michigan Adventure in Muskegon. Hopefully one day we will be back to walk his trails and see any other things he may have added!

I took me and my teenage daughters and nieces and nephews to the cabin in the woods. We had an amazing time. We are city folks and Michael’s cabin provided the perfect mix out door activities as well as all the modern amenities. The basketball court was the perfect touch. Hearing Mike tell us about his future plans for his property and watching him literally building his dream with his bare hands was very inspiring. His tree house was amazing and the way he engaged with us truly made out trip memorable. He was also very helpful and replied quickly when we needed him. We had quite an adventure tubing on the river. I would recommend not taking young kids tubing, existing the river was a challenge for us to say the least. We will definitely go back next year and we can’t wait until he finishes his current upgrades. His property is going to be amazing! This was our first time ever camping but it will definitely not be our last!! Thanks Michael

This cabin was such a quiet and relaxing place to spend a few days away. The property is absolutely beautiful, and has some fun trails to walk through with plenty of plants and wildlife to observe (we found some wild raspberries along one of them which made for a nice snack on our hike). The screened in porch and hammock made for a perfect place for afternoon reading and naps, and on top of it, it was only a few minutes drive to some nice fishing and a few spots in town. This was the perfect place for our trip and I would love to return.

My family of four enjoyed staying at the cabin. Kids enjoyed playing basketball, s’more, hiking, and relaxing in hammock. The cabin is quite spacious so we didn’t feel crowded. It worked out great for us to enjoy the little vacation.

Michael’s cabin in the woods is incredible. The cabin is beautiful and the surrounding woods is too! We had the most wonderful, restful weekend here, and Michael was an awesome host! Cannot recommend highly enough, we’ll be back soon!

We had a great time staying at this cabin in the woods!! It was a perfect balance of the beautiful rustic outdoors and creature comforts like hot showers and comfortable beds! It was a relaxing getaway.

This is such an incredible cabin especially knowing that Michael built it himself (with help from friends and family). This is a great relaxing getaway complete with fire pit, hiking trails, and basketball court.

Relaxing atmosphere in a clean and newly built cabin. Spacious quarters with all the necessities. Much room outside to play and explore. Michael was attentive to our stay and was available to chat with any updates or answers to our questions. Would recommend and would love to come back!

This cabin was the perfect place for our annual girls weekend. It is very clean, quiet and cozy with outstanding carpentry work.
The screened room was very relaxing after our tubing trip on the Flat River. The hammocks, as seen in the photos, definitely encourage napping. The large table in the dining area was perfect for playing our board games.
Michael was very quick to respond to our questions prior to our stay and is an outstanding host.
Thank you for allowing us to share your cabin. We would definitely stay here again.

The property was absolutely beautiful. The home was built by Michael and his family. Every inch was constructed with care. Michael was an awesome host. The property was perfect. There was a basketball court that my kiddos enjoyed. The home had three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an ample kitchen and living room. We definitely plan to come back soon.

We drove from the city to this hidden oasis that was private yet close to all the little town-holes in the wall. Michael was super nice and responded to any questions I had. You can tell he put a lot of hard work and takes pride in the cabin he built.the structure and wood work is jaw dropping. The scenery makes for a great nature getaway. Def worth the drive to unplug and unwind.will be coming back!

Great host. Very responsive prior to and during stay. This is a great cabin that he has poured his heart and soul into. Very spacious. Screen room was such an amazing and peaceful spot. Woke up in the morning and watched several deer feeding at the back of the cabin. Would stay again in a heart beat.

Michael is a great host! The house is super clean and peaceful. Highlights included kayaking on the Flat River, coffee in the dining room looking at the forest view, and walking on some of the trails on his property. Will definitely be back!

The cabin was absolutely beautiful! As soon as we arrived Michael gave us a quick tour of the cabin and was very patient answering the kids questions as well. It’s a nice lake and a cute little bakery near by. I can’t wait to go back!

Michael's Cabin in the Woods is a beautiful place to relax, hang out in a hammock, explore trails, plays a few of sports ball, have a fire or even just relax with a movie on an unexpected rainy day.
This spot feels very private and secluded but is still only 15 minutes or less away from a grocery, bakery, bar, fishing spots and hiking trails.
The cabin is brand new and very green friendly. Michael was an excellent host and very friendly and accommodating. I would absolutely recommend a visit and we will be back for sure.

Great rare Hipcamp find, great host, and the place is squeaky clean (Airbnb style).
If you end up staying here don't miss Kuchen from a nearby bakery in Smyrna :-)

This was the perfect electronic free weekend retreat. My kids played outside on the basketball court, riding their bikes, and walking the trails all day. In the evening they ran around with flashlights trying to catch frogs while my husband and I relaxed by the campfire. The cabin was stunning and brand new. The full kitchen was great for preparing meals and desserts and the big dining table was the perfect place for afternoon board games. I personally loved the hammocks and quiet time to read!

This property was very peaceful lots of nature and trails. The cabin was extra clean and the host was very inviting. He has a full size basket ball court and other activities. This is a must stay if your looking for tranquility.

The cabin is brand new, wonderfully crafted and the property is beautiful with lots of woods. The Flat River is about a 5 minute walk down the road and gorgeous!! The screened porch with hammocks was so relaxing, especially while watching lightning in the distance.
