The peninsula has tons of recreation: hiking, biking, beaches, boating, fishing, dining, shopping, wine tasting, and visit the Sleeping Bear Dunes! Our farm produces pastured, all natural meat, including pork, beef, goat and fresh eggs/seasonal veggies. See the hens roaming, cows and goats grazing in the fenced-in pasture. A variety of cuts of meat from our freezers are available for sale or get a tour of the farm ~ Just ask! You may simply enjoy the scene at your leisure. SITE DETAILS: Each camp site has woodchips, gravel surrounding a bonfire ring, a clothesline and neatly stacked firewood for sale. Our sites accomodate 2 adults and their minors. We recommend that larger groups or multiple adults book more than one site next to each other (sites 1 and 2 or 2 and 3 are good for this). Quiet hours are enforced between 10pm-7am. This is our home and farm, not a campground, please think of staying here that way. A water pump (for delicious drinking water straight from our well) and outdoor solar shower are located at camp. Our land borders the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. You'll be just a few miles from access to beautiful Lake Michigan beaches. Relax in the sand, hunt for rocks, hike a trail, kayak or paddle-board and watch an epic sunset. School Lake, known for its fishing from non-motorized boats or a quiet place to paddle. 2 Miles away, access the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, a non-motorized 27 mile groomed trail that follows the scenic M-22 from our location all the way to Empire, MI. 2.8 miles from our camp, you'll find a Mountain Bikers paradise at Palmer Woods Forest Preserve, with various hiking trails and a 6 mile mountain bike trail.

It's situated on 21 acres of what was the original Wawonowin Country Club, a 9-hole golf course that was built in the early 1800s and then closed in the mid 1960s. And now we have a beautiful mix of hardwoods and pines, forests and fields with multiplied non-motorized trails accessible right off the property. The very popular RAMBA bike trails are literally an ‘stones throw’ away! Our biggest site, Fairway Field is big enough for group camping that horse campers love, and one site, the Homestead, with an electric hookup. We don’t have a dump station or trash cans so please pack in and pack out. Phone signal is good throughout the area and we are close to civilization for necessities and only 20 minutes from Marquette. So much stuff to do in this area!

Only 30 minutes east of Grand Rapids, this property was established as a Youth Camp for 15 years is now a private event venue and campground, so it has nice amenities like FULL restrooms, a picnic shelter, and even a few small cabins that can be rented. Cabins ARE SMOKE FREE and may not be used as kennels so please keep pets off furnature and don't leave them inside when you are gone. You must bring your own queen sheet set. Steam cleaning the mattress will be an extra charge. Swimming beach is available in Lowell a few miles away. Fishing rivers and lakes are also in the area. (live bait in Saranac) Woods site and Open Area have a few different locations you can choose from. If woods or open shows booked already, please contact me. The big barn was built over 100 years ago and is still standing. The farm house was built in 1907. It has been remodeled with a second story added. Pine trees were planted to prevent erosion in the 1960's. The national park began buying land near us in the 1970's and the boundary line to the park is a half-mile from Moonshadow Camp. The area is surrounded by state forests and many hiking and biking trails. Our valley is known for incredible stargazing. Amenities include full access to the Camp kitchen and dining area. You will also have access to a Portable restroom and hand washing station which is located by our BIG BARN. Our primary guideline is that if your event will be held while other campers are here, it cannot disturb them. So, consider renting the whole campground. The 5 acre area where our campsites are located is wooded with mature oak, maple, walnut, elm, and white pine trees. The Ann Arbor area is home to a huge array of world class events from the Ark music venue to National Champions Michigan home football games and a whole lot more. Downtown Ann Arbor or Dexter or Chelsea is only a 15 minute car drive. White Lotus Farms, which has a wonderful farm market on Saturdays from 9 - 2 and Wednesdays from 9 - 1, is a 10 minute walk down our dirt road. If you forget to bring something that you need, don't hesitate to ask! We've got a growing number of camping essentials for rent or sale for very reasonable prices that can make your stay even more enjoyable: from bug repellants to camp chairs, potable water in 2.5 - 5 gallon containers, and more. We went tent camping here and it was really nice! We were only here for one night so we weren’t able to explore. However, it was nice that there seemed to be various things to do such as volleyball, horseshoe, kitchenette etc. The only thing that threw us off was the slight trek to the camp spot because it is slightly uphill. However, it was helpful that there was a wagon to pull stuff up!

The tent sites were nice and separate from other groups. The kitchen had all you need to cook stovetop or over the common fire pit. Rob was really nice and made sure we had what we needed. The location is great in close proximity to the park and many outdoor activities. There's a great mix of wooded area and open space to star gaze at night. We had good weather but there's enough covered areas to compensate if the weather doesn't cooperate. A covered kitchen, dining area and canopy next to the fire pit.

We had an excellent stay at Camp. Every claim about each amenity was just as described - or better. To have access to a hot shower, a working, well- equipped kitchen, a cozy community campfire was spectacular. But our tent site took first price - tucked in the quiet pines - incredibly tranquil and fresh air-filled, we slept great. Our fellow campers were very neighborly; everyone friendly and helpful. Overall, camp Moonshadow offered a warm, welcoming, and rejuvenating but relaxed vibe. Thanks!!

Robb and Jeanne's camp site was by far the best camp site I have visited. If you want a clean quiet camping experience that includes hot showers, outdoor kitchen, private sites with no cars riding by your site then this is the place for you. It is at a perfect location within a few miles from Sleeping Bear Dune National Park. Robb and Jeanne was very accommodating and I would highly recommend this camp site.

My friend and I camped at their walk-in tent site during a heatwave, and even with the weather and the stickiness, we both loved this site. The navigation to the site was easy to follow, and the actual walk into the site was more than manageable. It was perfect for us to pitch hammocks (you can probably get 2-3 if you have long straps) and camp that way. We were the only ones at any of the sites, so we enjoyed the peace and quiet, and a late-night visit from an opossum. Not only do I recommend, but will be making a trip back (when it isn’t 97 degrees out!)

We love camping here- from the beautiful tall trees to the lovely shared kitchen with twinkle lights- and especially the outdoor shower! My fiancé & I stayed here during Electric Forest, and we had a great time! We were only a few minutes away from the festival, but far enough that we were able to get some good sleep and quiet time. We camped in the wooded area, and it was nice & secluded. Mike and Ally were great hosts. I would definitely recommend Soul Fire Forest!

Weekend Trip to Life Adventures

I really enjoyed staying on Stephen's land in my RV. I don't need hookups so I was able to park in the full sun in a field so I could get lots of sun on my solar panels. Stephen was a great host and I got pretty attached to his kind dog Luke, who hung out with me all three days. There was a beautiful path to hike through the woods (Luke always came with me) that did a circle and was easy to navigate. I will be back here FOR SURE because it's in the perfect location for me. I loved everything about it.

Weekend Trip to EarthWell Retreat Center

We spent two nights tent camping at Earthwell, and it ended up being exactly what my two boys (ages 9 and 5) needed. Earthwell feels like a place that encourages you to slow down, unplug, and reconnect with nature. We explored the trails, swam in the pond, paddled, relaxed on the island dock, and enjoyed a sunset campfire. Nature put on a show just for the kids. We were visited by cranes, deer, turtles, toads, a "pond lobster", a barn cat, and fish that would actually swim right up to my son when he stood quietly in the water. That simple connection with the natural world was incredibly therapeutic. I watched my youngest catch fireflies for the very first time. As darkness fell, the entire property came alive with thousands of tiny lights. The Common House was perfect for a short break. We met another wonderful couple from K-zoo. Terrence offered us bug spray when the very expected bugs made their evening appearance. Little gestures like that made us feel cared for. What stood out most, though, was that Earthwell feels loved. You can sense the history, intention, and care that have gone into stewarding this property. It feels like a place with a purpose, where people genuinely want others to experience the peace and healing that comes from spending time in nature. If I can convince my wife that a little more time in the woods is a good thing, we'll absolutely be back. Thank you for sharing this beautiful place with others. We left feeling refreshed and more connected.

My group of 6 lifelong friends and a dog spent the weekend here on our annual camping trip and had a blast! The campground is absolutely beautiful and the fire pit, showers, and kitchen are such wonderful inclusions. Our experience was nothing but positive and we will 100% be coming back!

Where to go

Upper Peninsula

The Upper Peninsula is Michigan’s wild toupée, with swathes of old-growth forests, sandy beaches, and inland lakes stretching along the southern shore of Lake Superior. This is the spot to escape the crowds, whether pitching your tent by the sand dunes in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, parking your RV by a waterfall in Tahquamenon Falls State Park, or yurt camping in the Porcupine Mountains. For the ultimate camping experience, the Hiawatha National Forest has some 60 campsites to choose from.

Northern Lower Peninsula

Bordered by Lake Michigan to the West and Lake Huron to the east, the northern Lower Peninsula has the highest concentration of Michigan state parks. Miles of mountain biking, horseback riding, and hiking trails await in the Huron National Forest, where you can choose from modern campgrounds or backcountry camping. Along the coast, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a must-see, Wilderness State Park is a dark sky reserve, and Ludington State Park Beach is a family favorite.

Southwest Michigan

Grand Rapids is the gateway to Michigan’s southwest, where the shore of Lake Michigan provides plenty of options for a summer camping trip. Lakefront cities such as South Haven, Benton Harbor, and Holland have sandy beaches, historic lighthouses, and seafront campgrounds. Forget tent camping in the wilderness—RV sites come equipped with full hookups, playgrounds, and watercraft rentals.

Southeast Michigan

Michigan's "Thumb" juts out along the west shore of Lake Huron, where Sleeper State Park and Port Crescent State Park are the big draws for campers. Below this, the west coast is ideal for a road trip, peppered with shipwreck dive sites, secluded beaches, and golf courses. South of Detroit and Lake St. Clair, Sterling State Park is the only state park on the shore of Lake Erie, with a mix of RV and tent sites by the beach.
