WELCOME to Happy Hippie Lane Maine! Get your "groove" on or hang loose here on a precious little island with a big bridge just off route one in the heart of Midcoast. Hundreds of guests report the perfect balance of upbeat fun and chill time and call our place and hospitality "magic", "amazing" and "holy guacamole!" It is a lovely spot just off the beaten path but close enough to access the frey. :) I welcome my guests personally and have likely had a chat before you booked. I like to know what your hopes and priorities are around your stay before I accept so I can meet both of our needs. When you arrive, I will greet you and share a little history/tour of the place. I accept travelers between 4 and 9 pm but like all of us schedules fluctuate and we can roll some. There's a strong chance on an average Maine clear summer evening, I have the campfire going and the solar lights around the yard are charged for their evening gentle show. All of the spaces I rent are bedrooms only. You walk a few steps/yards to my 5 bedroom home and access two showers and some kitchen use. I also have an outdoor shower and outdoor kitchen that is cute and for your use. It's fun to cook on the fire too! I prefer folks to limit cooking esp in hot weather but support healthier eating and may share some of my foraging tips. The rooms are equipped with plenty of linens and fan power. You will be cozy either way the temps go. There is a lovely porch on the log home where you can sit and enjoy the sunset and lots of wildlife activity. The back yard has tether ball and lots of seating as well as the good sized fire pit with ghosts of hundreds of fireside chats gone by. I look forward to ours! Next door there is a gravel road on a lightly traveled road for your walking or biking pleasure. I am happy to join you in a hilly roller coaster cycling experience and have a few bikes to offer up. I am a WWOOF host and have occasional "helpers" and you are welcome to explore my veggie and flower gardens. This host loves board games and crafts so is often ready to share either or both with guests. There are 150 acres around me that are wooded and pathed so your pup will love it too. Reach out soon and let's chat about your vacation and visit here. I look forward to hearing from you.

My step Dad Bob ‘discovered’ the island in the 1970’s when he was escaping the rat race and looking to get ‘back to the land’. Over the course of three years he built the island house by floating cedar logs across the bay, using a come-along to bring the up to the land, debarked and prepped them for building and set about constructing his off-grid, solar powered home. All without power tools. Both my Mom and Bob were ardent environmentalists and peace advocates. For 20 years they lived year-round on the island and only left when their ages made it difficult to continue cutting/splitting/moving/burning wood and just the ordeal of living so remotely. Most visitors to the island agree the peaceful vibe continues and that is important to us.

We built this cabin recently with siblings and a few skilled friends to make a getaway place for the extended family. Just 2 miles off Rte. One our location is quiet and perfect for exploring the midcoast of Maine - a short drive to many favorite places! The cabin is built on property adjacent to our fruit farm which is slowly building up to full production with a kiwi orchard planted, ramps seeded, and a producing strawberry hoophouse for early ripening fruit. We move our horse and pony around to different fields during the warmer months, and keep pekin ducks (the white ones) (now all in retirement!). The farm is 78+ acres with logging roads and is located on a quiet road. Food markets and some good places to eat are within 6-7 miles. There is an outdoor shower, a nice outhouse, a campstove, oil lamps etc - so it's is very old fashion yet comfortable cabin stay! Bring your own towels and maybe some candles. Plenty of board games, and maps of our local hikes and places to explore. If you come in the fall you should know that the roof is insulated but the walls are not - so layer up, bring extra blankets, and hugging the woodstove might be necessary! You'll enjoy the screened porch in all kinds of weather.

If you can practice a ‘leave no trace’ ethic and enjoy camping, but prefer a cabin to a tent, this is a great option for you. Incredible, white sands Pemaquid Beach is 10 minutes away. Unique LaVerna Preserve is a 10 minute walk from the cabin and boasts amazing geological features. World-renowned Damariscotta River Oysters are available in many restaurants in nearby Damariscotta. The Pond Cabin is a 12 ft. x 16 ft. timber frame with a 6'x8' sleeping loft nestled 150 feet off a private, dirt road. As the crow flies, the Pond Cabin is 1/4 mile from the open ocean. Hipcampers will hear lobster boats, gulls and ocean swells. A small pond is just across the small dirt road and provides habitat for peepers and bullfrogs, as well as multiple bird species. The cabin is quite private and tucked into the woods on 3 sides. Nearby attractions include: Long Cove Point (less than 1 mile away), LaVerna Preserve (less than 1 mile away), Pemaquid Beach (a 10 minute drive), Pemaquid Point Lighthouse (a 15 minute drive), Hardy Boat Cruises to Monhegan Island and wildlife viewing tours (a 10 minute Drive), Round Pond Village (a 10 minute drive), as well as boat launch access at Round Pond Village. Fort William Henry is also nearby (a 10 minute drive). Kayak/canoe rentals are available at Bristol Mills and at the site containing Fort William Henry. The beds are covered with Allerease mattress protectors which are antimicrobial and provide allergen protection. Guests should bring their own bedding or sleeping bags. 4 pillows are provided, also covered with Allerease zippered covers. We use a Porta Potty with a hand washing sink inside. The Pond cabin does not have running water, but it does have drinking water and a hand washing sink. The Pond Cabin now has electricity. There is a hiking trail, about a mile long, from the cabin that gives you direct access to the ocean and nearby LaVerna Nature Preserve, a spectacular preserve with sweeping views to the open ocean and unique geologic features. Also, little ones will find the beginnings of a "fairy village" behind the cabin. Many upgrades have been done including a new porch, a loft with a queen bed, a Rinnai heater and 5 outlets on the lower level. Enjoy!

Centrally located in MidCoast (just 20 minutes from Route 1), out in the country you'll find a "Country Getaway" situated on over 16 acres. A large field borders mostly wooded land with an old farmhouse that dates back to the late 1700's. Rumored to have been a place for travelers to stop for a hot meal and/or some shut eye before heading back out on their journey. There was an orchard here, along with a cider press and the first town meeting was also held in the main house. Come enjoy the calm, quiet air, filled with natures soothing sounds as you're enchanted by the blinking fireflies of the night.

The Wakefield Wildlife Sanctuary was generously bequeathed to the Kennebec Land Trust in November 2016 upon owner Kendra Wakefield Shaw’s passing. Its 108-acres feature historic cabins and 4000 feet of frontage on Cobbossee Stream in West Gardiner. The property’s coniferous and deciduous woods, vernal pools, and marshlands are important habitat for many species of birds, mammals, and plants. In 2018, the Maine Cabin Masters renovated two of the stream-side cabins, which now serve as rustic getaways for Hipcampers and the like. A small dock and canoes are available for use on the wide and deep flatwater stream! *NEW 2024 - A dock has been added to cabin 2, so each cabin now has it's own private dock. Please carry-out your trash after your stay. Thank you! Due to the sensitive wildlife habitat - no dogs are allowed at either cabin. If you're interested in staying a full week at the cabins, please message us directly for availability. Kennebec Land Trust members receive a 10% discount on reservations. Not a member? 1 site, that is it! Just off Route 125, our property offers a space to sleep and cook—no amenities, just the beauty of the outdoors and a place to poop. ***Winter is coming, and we will not be plowing the road to the site, we will allow instant bookings till the driveway is impassable, then we will cancel*** The land borders a lush greenway and a rare wetland ecosystem called a fen. Expect visits from chipmunks, wild turkeys, raccoons, possums, porcupines, and possibly a sharp-shinned hawk overhead or a deer wandering through. With dry leaves on the ground, even small critters can sound surprisingly big, adding to the wild charm of the place. Though the campsite is set back on the property, you may still hear some road noise from Route 125. You’ll catch only a glimpse of one neighbor’s home through the trees (their generator runs for about an hour on Sunday afternoons).

We have an 8X8 cabin available in a small grove on the edge of our homestead/medicinal herb farm. The cabin has a full size bed (bring your own pillows and bedding) with some floor space for a small cot or sleeping pad. The space allows for two adults and two small children, anymore than that would be very tight. The cabin is insulated so the road traffic isn’t bad but it is noticeable at certain hours when the window is open. There is a large parking area with about a 100 yard walk across a lawn and then another 100 yard walk through an uneven wooded trail to the cabin. We have two composting toilet outhouses available for guests use that we take care of on a daily basis.Inside of our large greenhouse, there is a hot water outdoor semi-private shower, only biodegradable soap that we provide can be used. There is also a kitchen and seating area in the greenhouse with a propane grill, toaster oven, microwave and electric kettle and small coffee maker/French press. The greenhouse is a communal space that our family uses as a wood shop and greenhouse space so while the kitchen and shower area are kept clean and clear for guests, the rest of the greenhouse is a working space that can be in various states depending on what projects we have going on. Dogs are allowed but they need to be leashed due to our free ranging ducks and the closeness of the road. We can occasionally provide eggs and some veggies and herbs for tea for a small fee if it’s arranged in advance. We provide a fire pit and kindling but ask that you bring your own fire wood that has been purchased in the area so as not to bring in any new pests. The parking area is large enough if you want to bring a boat or trailer. Our spot is 3 miles from downtown Freeport and is located near a commuter road so it’s easy access to many spots.Freeport is a coastal town with two state parks, lots of great diverse trails which are well maintained and lots of restaurants/breweries. Denali, our farm hound, looks forward to greeting you. The sheep and chickens will also enjoy seeing you. Our farm cabin has a great feel of being connected to nature. It is quiet, cozy and a wonderful place to watch the sunset overlooking grazing animals. The cabin has a queen bed in the downstair bedroom and another double bed in the loft. The couch in the sitting room also folds-out to a double bed for the children. We use high-quality cotton sheets, pillows and down comforters - to assure you will be cozy and feel pampered. We provide coffee/tea service in the morning in our farm store. The cabin does not have heat, electricity or running water. We provide numerous battery-charged lights and candles making this a is cozy, relaxing and perfect way to experience Maine farm life. An outhouse is nearby. We provide an outdoor hot-water shower. Plan to visit our farm store where you can buy goat-milk soap, beeswax candles, organic wool pillows, sheep and goat skins and other creations made by Patti. Loads of hiking trails are right out our door or wander down the gravel road. Visiting the animals (sheep, chickens and, of course, Denali - the farm hound) is always a highlight for guests. Please leave your own dog at home, thank you. Chris is a proud Mainer and natural tour guide. He will be happy to provide you with his favorite recommendations and hidden gems. For the past eleven years, hundreds of people have enjoyed seeing the lambs, walking on our trails, and relaxing in a cell-free zone. In the summer our cabin books every night – so we encourage you to make reservations soon. If you would like to talk over your plans, please give us a call. Denali the hound (and we) look forward to welcoming you!

Visit the KLT website (www.tklt.org) to join and find more information about the Wakefield Wildlife Sanctuary Cabin, including a full list of what is provided.

We are a short drive from Portland, Brunswick and Bath which both have lots of parks and restaurants. Lisbon falls and new Glouster also have great trails and restaurants that are amazing yet less crowded than Portland. We are a short drive from family destinations like the desert of Maine in Freeport, Maine wildlife park in grey and the old orchard boardwalk.  We are about 40 min from popham beach to the north and 40 min to crescent beach, old orchard beach and Scarborough beach to the south. As hosts, we are around if you need us but happy to give as much space and privacy as you would like. If we are out working in the fields or hanging out with our kids, we are happy to give tours or talk about any of the gardens or plants that catch your interest.  This is a working farm so walking around must be at your own risk, there are bees and ticks and some tripping hazards to be mindful of.We have rented this cabin through Air b-n-b for several years.
