Spacious Skies Balsam Woods is a hidden paradise of a campground located right in the heart of Maine, just a half hour south of Moosehead Lake, the largest lake in Maine, and 60 miles as the crow flies from the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, Mt. Katahdin, in Baxter State Park.
We offer both wooded and open sites that can accommodate most rigs. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, water, 30 or 50-amp electrical service, and most offer sewer. Groups and tent campers are welcome.
Balsam Woods campground is less than a minute’s drive from Piper Pond, a 2-mile-long lake with public boat launch and beach access. Onsite, we have a camp store and snack bar stocked with necessities, treats, and goodies for the whole family. There is no shortage of fun activities with our heated pool, classic rec hall, playground, a new jumping pillow, and gem mining! We have three cozy rustic cabins as well as three deluxe cabins for those wanting to experience the beauty of the great outdoors but who may not be ready for the tenter or RV life!

We are building a large pavilion for events. Behind this area there is a rolling hill which overlooks Dixmont mountains. Welcome to Lilac Firefly! This is a residential 7 acre property in a quiet and safe neighborhood. We are right off the main road for easy access about 15-20 minutes south of Bangor. It is very peaceful and calm here. We live in the 5 bedroom older farmhouse where you can use the bathroom if needed. You will receive a code for the electronic door lock. Upon booking, I will send a welcome email with all info needed for your stay. There is a small stream and community fireplace by the 4 campsites and another fireplace closer to the garden. The designated campsites are at the rear of the property and are first come, first serve. A tent can be set up anywhere on the 7 acres and does not need to be in the designated campsite area. We have easily accommodated 20+ campers at once (6-8 groups), though typically you might be the only group here. Car camping, van life, and tents are welcome! We previously accepted RVs, but for 2026 this has changed due to tenants now in an RV. There are some lightly wooded areas, apple trees, a pear tree, and an open field. We are pet friendly and there animals that live here too. I travel a lot as a DJ and audio tech and might not be here, but have a self check in process and video I will send. Roommates are generally here. Maine Savings Amphitheatre is 15 min away (concerts in Bangor). Acadia National Park is just over 1 hour away. Bangor and Bucksport are both about 15 min away. Fort Knox is about 20 min away. From the campsites, the road and house are not visible. We have flowers when in season, deer, turkey, birds, and friendly creatures that visit.
Please be ready to be self sufficient and sustainable in any weather. Well water is available at the RV posts and passes all tests - pure and safe for drinking.
Chopped, split, and dried wood (pine) is available included in your Hipcamp fee! You can burn what you need for the day/night. Thank you.
Sometimes we get campers who are going to a concert in Bangor, which is awesome. Any hours coming and going are fine! Feel free to reach out with any questions.

We stayed in site 1 and we loved the privacy of our site. It was spacious and had both sunny and shady areas. I was able to put my solar panels out to charge the battery and they got full sun. I also left them out for two days without worrying about them getting stolen or something. Jane was responsive, communicated with us as needed and met us on our arrival. We really enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend Jane's place.

What a great spot! Down off a gravel road, with minimal traffic. There is a house you can barely see through the trees, but plenty of privacy. The hosts were great - good communication and even left us a goodie bag with some sweet treats and a deck of cards! (They even left us a couple of milkbones for our pups!) Would absolutely recommend!

We had a nice stay. First impression was great, the yurt was clean and fresh. The beds were quite comfy. Pretty much everything you need is provided. Monica was hilarious and helpful. We ate a lot of good food from local eateries and saw some great sights. The outdoor shower was great. We sat on the dock in the evenings and watched the frogs and loons. We definitely recommend this site!
