Weekend Trip to Turtleback Ridge

What’s not to love about camping just a short walk from an incredible brewery? Turtleback Ridge Farm is a fantastic host for the Kentucky Open Road Race Series, and I had the privilege of camping there the night before a race. Although the weather was dreary and the rain relentless, the property still offered a peaceful, spacious spot to pitch a tent and rest up undisturbed. I didn’t get to fully appreciate the farm’s beauty this time, but I’m already looking forward to a return visit. Highly recommend to anyone in search of a laid-back, convenient campsite in the area!

My sin and I enjoyed our stop at Barts property. The scenery was gorgeous. He fetched some firewood fornme and his wife brought kinding. Their son incuded mine in a morning walk down to the creek and to a neighbors place to explore. The composting toilet was awesome. No smell and it was clean and peaceful. It was an added bonus to have a covered outdoor kitchen/seating area with a fresh spring water sink, ample counter space, table, stools, and electricity. Bonus an electric tea kettle! There was a box with maps, guides, and other goodies for guests. There was a crazy hard trail up the mountain behind the site that was steep and slippery. The view was worth it. We will definitely be back.

I've stayed at around a dozen hipcamps around the country, and I have to say, this is one of my favorites. It is completely private and there is much to explore right there on the property. Easy communication with the host, available water, and a few minutes drive from some cool hikes in the red river gorge. I'll definitely be staying here again if I'm in the area.

We loved bringing our teardrop trailer to this beautiful private property! We are new to the area and this was the perfect spot for our family. We felt so safe and comfortable and had everything we needed! Our camper did wonderful by the pond! We did hiking every day at red River Gorge and it was so nice coming back to this nice private spot (spot by the pond). We did this trip in March so even though the nights were chilly we did just fine and everyone was sad to leave! Thank you guys for such a great experience and for sharing your property with us!

She gave us a great recommendation for Creation Falls, which ended up being one of our favorite sights. It was fun to chat with her about it when she stopped to check in that evening. I highly recommend that you book a stay here. I’m sure Kim will take great care of you too.

Very Peaceful atmosphere, at night all you can hear is the valley stream, the perfect amount of noise! Very friendly people and very friendly animals! Would absolutely recommend staying here again, although next time I think I'll wait till it's a bit warmer outside.

Per our insurance-We love all dogs, but our insurance company says no to Akitas, American Staffordshire Terrier (Pit Bulls), Chows, Presa Canarios, Rottweilers, Shar-peis, Wolf Hybrid, Mixed with predominately with a listed breed) No exotic animals or any animals that display aggressive behavior. We allow ONE dog under 70 lbs. If you bring a dog- pick up the waste from yard.

That's what makes The LAAAAND so special. The property is comprised of 50 pristine acres, with a mix of fields and woods, that bump up against another 250 acres owned by our family friends. The southern perimeter of the property is all cliff line, so you feel truly remote. The possibilities of sound pollution are limited to a far-off dog barking, horses being ridden down a nearby trail, or the possible hum of a distant lumber yard. Other than that, you'll mostly hear the wind rustling trees, deer and critters making their way through the woods, and possibly a waterfall at certain times of the year. Our lodging features treehouses, yurts, a bunkhouse, retro camper, water/electric hook-ups, and campsites. We also host weddings, retreats, and other events so advance reservations are required. For insurance purposes and the safety of our own livestock and pets, we do not allow guests to bring their pets/ESAs onto the property. Prepare to UNPLUG as we do not have cell service or wifi (there IS a landline for guests to make phone calls located in the Community Farmhouse). All guests from tent to treehouse have access to our solar-powered Community Farmhouse featuring a fully-stocked chef-inspired kitchen, restrooms, coin-op laundry, and upstairs multi-purpose room with a library and board games. There is also an outdoor kitchen area with additional cooking space including a grill, microwave, and sink (sink is closed in the winter so the pipes don’t freeze). Next to the Farmhouse is a massive pavilion with picnic tables for al fresco dining and firewood bundles to purchase. BRING CASH! Our seasonal bath house is generally open from April or May to October or November based on the prevailing temps. There are 4 flush toilets, 2 sinks, and 2 hot showers. The floors are concrete so we recommend shower shoes and you'll want to bring your own towels and shampoo/soap. The farm has a small playground, yard games, creeks, and a steep and rugged hiking trail that loops the mountain. We're also just 8 miles from the hiking trails at the Berea College Pinnacles, 8 miles to Owsley Fork Reservoir, 20 minutes to Anglin Falls, 12 miles to Berea, 35 minutes to Richmond, Ky, and a scenic hour to Red River Gorge. For other activities, restaurants, shopping, music, and more, we're happy to share our favorites, but highly recommend checking out the Berea Tourism website.

Possum Ridge Ranch

Our remote 375 acres part farm and part natural woodland nestled up to Daniel Boone Forest is ideal for hikers and nature lovers. There are several hiking trails onsite and plenty of woods to explore. ATVs or side by sides are welcome to be used on the main gravel roads and some designated areas of our property. There is plenty of wildlife around but no hunting is allowed. Our designated tent sites do have firepits and picnic tables. Our trek in sites do not have those options. Pets are welcome for $10 per pet/per booking and they do need to be leashed/under control at all times. This is an extra so please be sure to add that if you plan to bring your pet. Please pick up after them. We are a short driving distance from West Liberty, Cave Run Lake, Grayson Lake, Carter Caves, Morehead, Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge. We are approximately 20 minutes from the nearest store so you'll want to come prepared. We are located in West Liberty (Morgan County). There is a centrally located bathhouse with toilet, shower and sink and a hose for potable water. We have firewood for sale for $15 per bundle and is an extra option when booking(use what you need during your stay and it is located at the tent sites), you can bring your own and you are welcome to gather from the surrounding area but please do not cut down any living trees/limbs.

Property is located just a few miles from Kincaid lake State park. The site is close to the road, but with very few cars traveling it. There is a portable restroom on site, and a large open area with plenty of room to setup camp. Also, there is a picnic table, bench, and firepit. There are a few hiking trails on the property, and a second campsite in the woods on the opposite end of the property for those that would prefer to be in the woods. Property is located on top of a hill overlooking a hilly view of fields and forests. It is next to a cattle farm and across the street from an 18 hole Public Golf Course. Seven minutes from West Union where there is food, gas, shopping available. Five minutes from the Ohio river and downtown Manchester. Fifteen Minutes from historical Maysville kentucky, accessible via a bridge from Aberdeen, Ohio side. There are several boat ramps in to the Ohio river from Aberdeen. Twenty minutes from Amish store The Millers and a Petting Zoo. Thirty Minutes from Shawnee State Park. 80 minutes from Downtown Cincinnati. In the evenings if the sky is clear the star gazing is phenomenal. There is a nice breeze on the hill most of the time. The sunrises and sunsets are to die for. We can provide a long outdoor extension cord for electricity and hose for water. We live right by the road and the bulk of the property is behind the house and to the left side. It’s mostly field with a line of trees and small stream on the left edge of the property.

The property is tucked away from a side street with a small access drive. The hallow is sloping up to the underside of cliffs, surrounding the property on 3 sides. Climb to overlook the Valley and discover any of the 6 springs... or find a new one. They all converge into a beautiful creek. Enjoy the creek-side quiet and explore the landscape to find native wildlife. Blueberry bushes growing wild on the property. Test your off-grid skills but beware of some of the more dangerous local wildlife. NO FIRES. NO GUNFIRE. NO FIRES. There are 2 designated camping areas creekside, see the property map for locations. Vehicles must stay before the gate at AREA 1. Mind the 8' clearance at the access road! Larger vehicles may want to stay at AREA 1. AREA 2 is behind the gate and is accessible by foot only. The access road gets you close to the gate to park. This area is in the process of being cleared for better access but can be used already. Be safe and have fun exploring!

My place is secluded and peaceful. Its a wooded country setting and is a primitive site. There are no facilities or utilities, there is an outhouse/self composting (follow up your business with dropping leaves in after). It may not be suitable for children as there are active brush/wood burn piles on the land. See all photos and ask questions, please. I want it to be enjoyable for all who book. It’s also noteworthy that there are dogs in the area that roam free, it’s way out in the country, there are no leash laws. I’ve never had any issues with unfriendly dogs, but always be aware. It’s at a dead end road, no thru traffic. You can stay and enjoy some amazing stargazing, (there is minimal lighting and a very dark, clear view of the night sky) and lots of peace and quiet or explore the Daniel Boone National Forest surrounding the property or travel a short distance and see so many nearby amazing areas…Red River Gorge, Natural Bridge State Park, NADA Tunnel, Sky Bridge, Cave Run Lake, Twin Knobs and Zilpo Recreation Areas, Carter Caves State Park, Grayson Lake, Rudy’s Ranch. This place is out in the country away from the clutter of urban life; a place of solitude and peace and quietness. Primitive Tent Camping available. Bring your own wood, personal toiletries, etc and enjoy the beauty of nature and be at peace with yourself and other people here.. You might see a deer or two during your stay. If you wanna visit old historic towns you have Augusta Ky where George Clooney’s was raised and family resides. You also have historic Maysville close to the Ohio River. Go kayaking in Augusta or along the river. There are upscale restaurants and basic eateries 20 minutes away. Also a ferry can take your vehicle over the river to Ohio, which is a pleasant experience for about $5 cash. Be kind and refrain from smoking at this campsite thank you.
